Mario blinks.  "If we can smell it this strong, must be a bunch, or pretty big -- maybe both."

OOC:  I've been kinda waiting on Gwythaint to update us on what we're seeing...

"You think there are spiders larger than ones that can be stepped upon nearby?  Maybe flame will be handy soon."

From his spot in the middle of the group, Nodwin pulls out one of his brighter lightstones and tosses it ahead a short ways, beyond the circle of light created by the torches, lanterns and lightstones the group is carrying.

"Maybe seeing better will clear up the issue."

The stone rise’s and moves forward in front of Jareth.

You can see that the hallway ahead is covered in swaths of thick webs.
 The shadow of an enormous spider rises in an attack position... oddly it is holding the position!

I wonder if it is sentient?

Jocelyn is less than thrilled to see the spider... revolted in fact, it requires a good bit of discipline not to just turn and leave.

Turning his head slightly, Jareth says to those behind him, "Brodak?  Wanna slide up here...  Mario, Mel, get ready, but hold off moment."

He holds position at the front and saks more loudly at the huge spider, "Ya capable of speakin?"


While talking to it, he tries to get a good look at the situation...

Mario's right hand had already been near the fletching of his ordinary arrow; now he grasps the nock, able to release an accurate shot in less than a heartbeat at need.

"That's a pretty big spider.  Anyone know where a spider keeps her vitals?  Just in case?"

Brodak struggles past the group and up to Jareth

Whut?  Goblin Crap! ... that big Spider!

Mario raises his left hand and bow, placing the light stone tied to the upper nock high enough to be out of his eyes.  His right hand remains on the nock of his ordinary arrow.

"I guess I'll bet on the, um, head, area..." He trails off, realizing that the spider has no actual head separate from its thorax, as a wasp, moth, or fly would have.

The spider is not moving at all; icy vapor seems to be rising from it, and the stone beneath it seems to be frosted.

Jareth approaches slowly checking to see if the spider is dead (frozen solid) or just chilled and 'frozen'.

This spider looks quite still, it has a rime of frost lightly coating it.

"Lets just kill it to be sure..."

"Wow.  Frozen?  I've heard of cellars collecting the cold well enough to freeze food, but the rest of the room is comfortable.  Want me to put a couple arrows through the, um, main eyes, just in case?"

"Recommend Brodak do t'e honours.  If it frozen t'e way through, arrows won' do much.  Meanwhile, Clarence, how about some torches so we can clear out t'e webs."

Jareth moves out of Brodak's way.
