Over in the Wastrel's  Hope

Haveron gave a small grin as his companion headed to the bar, maybe catching a little on her walk before he returned his notice to the barman and said "Hers is on me., as she approached he casually pushed her and then wrapped an arm around her for a sidewards hug. It was a friendly greeting that he used to give his little sisters.

"This dame is the one and only Ms Montaigne. I have found none other that has such a disarming voice or a heartstopping smile he said with an enthusiasm that grated almosty palpably against the grim, lumbered demeanor that had been present moments ago. A casual smile exploded onto his face and seemed to reduce his age visibly by a decade. The man was youthful, after all, it seemed.

"I like short ones as much, but make sure that ale comes with it too. And I'll be thanking you plenty with my coin tonight" he said casually before asking Amelia Find anything you were looking for around town?". She had tottered off as they entered Northport proper, he didn't ask what, but now that she was here and it was their time to relax.

"Always business aren't you Amelia" he said jestingly, knowing it wrinkled her.

"We can sort out finding some work tomorrow, for now drink your red and relax a little he said gently as he reached for the short and took it down in a gulp. Before putting the glass down on its rim and moving it over to make room for the ale.

He licked his lips, whetting them to the frothy and hoppy ale that he had yearned for all day. He was too thirsty and hadn't drank enough and was eyeing it with intent. Without turning his head he asked What things are you going to pick up?

Berry darts in the door, slams it behind her, calms herself down and walks over to the bar and "One cheap ale! Not the cheapest, but still pretty cheap, I'm celebrating my official admission to the Adventurer's guild! Now I just need to find someone who wants to go raid with me... Hey anyone need a spare wizard for dungeon diving? this is probably really awkward and marking her as one who is clueless, but Berry doesn't really care.

Haveron cast a curious glance at the new woman and then turned to face that direction. One elbow leaned heavily on the bar and his legs crossed and he continued to pull on his ale while watching the spectacle.

Glancing to Amelia, mid drink, he gave a small nod and then wiped the foam from the beginnings of his beard.

The door pushes back open, and a bedraggled looking goblin steps through, and pulls off his hat to wring it out.
"Make that two ales, but not your worst. That barrel on the left
leaves a reek in the mug that makes me wonder if you keep a lot of cats,
JeanPaul. And Berry, you hurt my feelings! Hold the door next time!"

Haveron glanced over to John Paul and spoke again "I reckon these two are with me also. Give 'em some ale, would you? he said, purposefully casting his eyes away from Amelia, whom he knew would be rolling her eyes at his spending of their money. She was always giving him a hard time for being too free with the giving, but a Wizard was still a good thing.

Take your drinks from me.

Haveron's my name, and my paramore over there is Amelia."
he gestured casually with his tankard to the dark haired woman standing off to the clueless wizard's right.

First, Berry apologizes to Var, "Sorry Var, but those were some damn scary dogs."

Berry gets her drink and sits by Haveron and she whispers to the bartender "Sorry, but he's not the brightest he's probably getting this place confused with somewhere else."

Turning to Haveron "Thanks for the drink. Just trying to help a lady celebrate or did my impromtu speech actually accomplish something?"

She rolls her eyes at the last bit.

In reply to Berry (msg # 76):

The half shadow elf shrugs.
"I am cabinet maker, and knife collector. Very good with fine tools.
My cousin is sorceress, good with fire and lightnings. We could perhaps use work also, not much treasure had in our last expedition, or there was, and we gave it back to strange prisoners we liberated. Big man with blade, what is your story?"

Haveron grinned in response to the woman, but then gave a puzzled look as the cabinet maker begin to speak. maybe they're all a little odd around here he said inwardly with a smile.

He handed over his tankard to the shadow elf cabinet maker and then nodded to the barman to get him another "Drink this he said casually before glancing a little more intently at each of the new people. Suddenly the two had become five, and perhaps six once Haveron figured out who the elf's cousin was.

"Well, i've never made a cabinet nor cast a spell. Though these are certainly things in which I take an interest.

I don't know much of either to be fair, but I feel that people who can build things and people that can blow things up and create food out of thin air could be nothing but useful. And I do my best not to require healing too often, being wounded isn't good for you, or so i'm told. "
he said with a wry grin.

"Probably can't see it..." he said with his face refreshed with the grim expression " But the chipped paint of the shield showed the Stormwal's crest, from the duchy that is now a wreck of chaos and a damned fine bloody mess. he reached down and grabbed the ale infront of him, taking a long pull as if to punctuate his words before continuing "Fought for them we did... he said, signalling Amelia too "... lot of good it did though. Now there's nothing left of it, from what I hear

"Well, that's a damn shame. For Stormwal!" Berry says lifting her glass and then takes a sip. "So I take it you've come to Northport to find a new way forward? City of Adventure! Built upon countless ruins of ages past just filled with treasure waiting for anyone brave enough to dare past the deadly monsters and traps... okay, I made most of that up, but it sounds right to me. Although, if that even resembles the truth it might be a good idea to ask how does this place keep going to ruin? Wait, so you're new at this adventuring thing too then?"

"Well, i'll be first to admit that I've never battled a dragon on the site of ruins from an ancient empire, but I've been around a little bit. It's been a few years since Stormwal because yet another ruined place.

He grinned again, and lifted his own tankard in salute of his family's province that once stood well and strong

"The frontier seems to be the place where most opportunity can present itself, y'know, if you can deal with the deadly monsters.

I've had a mind to put together a group of people who have high hopes for their own future and use this place as the foundation. So, if you folk, wizards and cabinet makers want to be part of that, you'll be welcome, and it seems like a good way to get richer than I am now.

He casually took another drink and then gestured Amelia to come over "Amelia will help with everything you all think you'd need he offered and then added "We should have work tomorrow, so make sure you enjoy your night too .

Haveron turned back to the bar and then took another sip, after a few moments he realised that he might have not answered the question. He turned back.
From what I understand, this place is built on old ruins and over the past few decades, or however long it's been, has been contested between a lot of different factions. Orcs, beasts, merchants, thieves, and all the like. People just want a piece of it, and it offers the best inroad to this area of the land, the only strong port in the area from what I gather
