Mancini notes that the weapons are good to fine quality, and there is one double bladed axe that appears to be very fine.

Mancini, satisfied that the dwarf's goods were up to his standards, approached the dwarf artificer.  "I have a problem that I think you can solve",  Mancini said, as he directed the maul to placed before the dwarf.

"Can this be fixed, or no? And for how much?"

The dwarf hefts the maul with a grunt, peers down the shaft and rotates the weapon in his hands.

This is a very good weapon, but the haft has a crack in it. I can run some reinforcing rods down the shaft, but it might make it a little thick to hold on to. This yours?" he looks to Hilerno.

"It will take me a day, but I can run steel reinforcement down both sides of the shaft with some supplemental banding. It will cost you  $300 to keep the quality of the weapon functional, and raise the base value enough that it could take an additional enchantment. "

"You sure we can't lower the price anymore?  I mean, I'm sure I can convince the Guild to throw some work your way in exchange for a discount."

Mancini paused for a moment and considered what he said about the additional enchantment.  "Do tell me more about what you mean by an enchantment."

(OOC: 23:20, Today: Mancini rolled 10 using 3d6.  Merchant (16) --- to lower the price.)

In reply to Mancini (msg # 644):

A quick contest of merchant can reduce the price by 5% or better. You recognize that a common maul would cost far less to repair, and that the base worth of the weapon is something like $6350.

Mancini started walking over to some of the other weapons, and starting hefting them.  As he did so, he would ask uninterestedly to Ardenas, "You think our orc friend would like this one better? I  can't simply believe that our maul could be that expensive to repair...

Picking up Mancini's cue, Ardenas replies, "He might prefer a warhammer, like this but with a longer haft.  Better penetration.

"But honestly, he's not one for subtlety.  I expect he was using his fists, or a heavy timber, before he got this maul."

"It's a hard bargain you drive, Malthus, but I accept your terms", Mancini said.  He pulls out his purse and hands Malthus the required payment.

He sighs as he looks in his coin purse and notices that it is nearly empty.  "Du Clair better pay us good for this extra effort", he mumbles to himself, just loud enough for Aoife and Ardenas to hear.

"I believe that Malthus has already said that it will take him about a day to fix the maul", Mancini says to Ardenas.  He turns to Malthus, "Would you prefer us to wait, or no?"

As he waits for Malthus to answer, he lowers his voice and continues talking with Ardenas.  "I think it best to return the maul with an escort.  As this maul apparently has some value, I think we ought to protect it from enemies of the Guild and from those whose loyalties do not extend further than Du Clair.  Besides," Mancini continued, "I am weaponless until I return this to the ogres and would not be able to defend the maul in case of ambush, even with the capable help of Hilerno."
