Chou-Zhen approaches the one Ales called Bresnark as quickly as the crowd permits, muttering a complex word.  He shakes his head, queue twitching, and rotates his left hand in a limbering movement.  Still closing with Bresnark, he speaks again.  A trained or very acute ear might hear a slight difference in the pronunciation.  His left hand fills with lightning that forms into a whip.

As soon as the whip is fully formed and he's within its two-yard reach, he lashes at Bresnark, though the lash goes wide.

Still with his tetsubo covered in carpet, Jin shakes his head and braces his foot on the table, kicking it into Bresnark and his temporary companion. Both are unbalanced...

Ales begins to cast a spell to attack Bresnak... the very fact he was in Northport was enough in Ales's mind to justify a quick, painful, and early death.

Chou-Zhen flips his leather whip near the feet of the burning mage and speaks an arcane word.  Snuffed like a bedside candle, the flames go out.  He speaks in Shevnian, to be sure he's understood.

"Can't have you setting fire to the city.  Now, run away, silly mage."

Chou-Zhen turns away from Bresnak and follows Jin up the stairs.

Chye watches the mage from above, but is loathe to murder him. For what he has seen, he has acted honorably and for the welfare of the people.

Chou-Zhen continues following Jin toward the casino entrance, giving only the slightest return nod to Bresnark.
