This formerly fabulous multistory, balconied wooden building has surely seen better days. Dozens of workmen and merchants, and a fair number of
low level mercenaries  are eating soup, noodles and conversing loud enough to make it hard to be heard half a street away.

Chye ascends the buildings steps, and bows to some old gentlemen smoking their pipes on the the porch. He steps through the doors, and bellows: "Hoiiiiiii!" *penetrating voice* 21:04, Today: Chye Isuel rolled 10 using 3d6.  carousing - 15.

Following quietly behind Isuel, resplendent in his new lamellar armor (even though it is mostly covered by the over-garment with Sakemoko's chop), Chou-Zhen looks around the place, expecting to see the stereotypical decorations common to such an establishment: hyper-realistic paintings of the offered food in the dining room, bead curtains, overdone gilt covered woodwork, icons of fierce-looking Sahudese immortals.

Just inside the door, he pauses to let Jin lead the way.

The woodwork is old but tastefully ornamental, with modest amounts of
faded gilt trim. Paper lanterns hang, and a few areas have faded brush
paintings of natural scenes of foggy mountains and bamboo, each with an
Obligatory old man sitting with a bowl of noodles, fishing or smoking.
Paper banners hang from the carved pillars, announcing the day's specials.

*Chye reads the specials, licking his lips.*

Chye flourished his arms, and bellowed over the din of the diners:

"Isuel!  Quietly!"  Chou-Zhen shakes his head, his queue flipping out of step with the movement.  "We don't want attention yet!"

An instant later, he is standing tall.  If folk are going to look, let them see the Omo's colors worn proudly.

"We had a plan, idiot."

The waiter nods and hurries off.
Your tablemates are slurping away at bowls of broth and noodles.
At the moments you see no one engaged in games of chance, but there
is a steady stream of people heading up the two flights of stairs to the
mezzanine level above, where the back stair to the casino is.

Chye unslings his lute, and slips his jingasa off his head, letting it rest on his back and shoulders, by it's silken cord. He reaches into his gi, fishing a silver piece out of his pouch ($20), for the waiter when he returns. Chye'll  tell him to keep the change. (four farthings, and two-bits.)

"Going to go gamble," Jin said, grabbing his double-distilled rice wine. "If they try and kick us out... remember, the goal is attention, not war."

"Osu." Chye nods, and unstops his jug of black pepper-ale. Taking in it's heady aroma, he lifts the jug to his lips, and chugs a few good swigs. "Ahhhhh!... " *Belch* Chye settles back in his seat, and watches the patrons, jug upon his knee.

Seeing trouble brewing already, Chou-Zhen takes a swift mouthful of his fish and sticks a finger into his ale, while moving his feet into position to stand quickly if needed.

He says nothing, however, and, well aware of the reaction his smile sometimes draws, refrains from smiling.

Following Isuel's lead, Chou-Zhen continues eating his fish and soup, sticking a finger into his ale from time to time.

Ales intentionally arrives late, stripped of his overcoat that would directly identify him as a member of Sakemoko's household.  He makes his way through the establishment, his movements suggesting he is nothing more than a simple diner wanting some of the local delicacies.

He waits for the waiter to find him a seat.  He takes a quick look at the menu and orders the special of the day, not really caring what it is.

There is no gambling in this part of the establishment. Jin can see Ales entering the restaurant on the other side of the three toughs, and Ales xan see the four of you being confronted by them.

Numbah three is slurping noodles, and is also loosening the stays on his
 sword in a very low key way.

"Taxes must be paid to the local authorities. I am their duly
appointed representative. Now pay up!"

"Is that so?" Jin folded his arms. "You're not very good at this. I was thinking of offering you a job, but I have to say that you're not doing a very good job of impressing me. Tell the target how much money you want. Vague demands don't help you, they don't help me."

"Are you freelancing, or are you working for that demon-worshiper Akira? Or are you working here, in his place, without his permission?"

Between mouthfuls of fish, Chou-Zhen speaks, making no attempt to disguise his accent.

"And which local authorities do you claim to represent?  The city government, the Hadereum, or the Guild?  And why should we expect our taxes to be collected in a place like this?"

He sticks a finger in his mug of ale, and allows himself a small, very disquieting smile.

"Oh, and do you have defenses against magic?"

Li Mu looks angry and startled. His hand drifts toward the single edged broadsword in his sash. The back of the blade is set with steel rings.
His men have knives and clubs, and at Chou-Zhen Mou's last comment,
one pulls an amulet from inside his jerkin, and makes a gesture against spirits.

Chye stands his intimidating 6'1", flicks his forked tongue, and bears his fangs, with a hiss.

The tough with the amulet takes a step back from Chou-zenand his levitating soy sauce.

Jin cracks his knuckles and sits down at the table, making a big show of flexing and stretching to draw things out, get more attention, and buy the intruders more time. "Gather round! Place your bets. Chye, get these good people's attention. Where are the bookmakers? Get some odds set out here."

Chye nods, claps his hands, and jumps on a table. "Osu!"

The music is right, but his performance is slightly off, lacking polish.

Ales moves closer, enough to be able to cast spells if needed.  Otherwise, he appears to be a mere spectator.

Jin, seemingly brimming with good cheer, clasps numerous crowdmembers on the shoulder before sitting down. They were not here to fight. They were not here to win an arm-wrestling contest. They were not here to blend in. They were here to make a scene, draw the attention of everyone so that Iskander and Airis could scout the place out.

It didn't matter if he won or lost, as long as he kept the match going as long as possible.

"Three silver coins bet... on myself!" he cried.

Chou-Zhen gently lowers the soy sauce bottle to the table and lets the spell lapse.  He reaches into his belt pouch and pulls out a pair of Northport francs, waving at the nearest bookie.  "Two silvers on Li Mu."  Once the bet is recorded, he returns part of his attention to his meal.  Over his shoulder: "Let's see you earn the taxes you try to collect!"

Between bites, he frees his leather whip from his belt and passes it, still coiled, to his right hand, then returns to eating with his left.

Basically the technique (defaulting to ST-4 (+2 for his Wrestling skill bonus)) is vs Li Mu's ST or HT. If Jin wins, he does swing cr to the arm (3d+1 including bonus for high wrestling skill). This will probably break it, which is Jin's goal - he will then start screaming at Li Mu that he should know better than to try his garbage on Jin.

That part is basically an Intimidation roll vs the crowd; Jin's intimidation is 12, +2 for a feat of strength (breaking Li Mu's arm), -1 per 5 targets present, + his Social Regard (Feared) bonus.

As Chou-Zen rises, the more superstitious of Li Mu's men turns and fkees, knocking over the waiter, and spilling noodles onto the crowd. The other tough tugs at Li Mu's sleeve, as if bidding him to flee.

Ki Mu grimaced, but does not cry out.

Chou-Zhen floats toward Li Mu, feet well clear of the ground, grinning broadly (a most unpleasant rictus).  He waves his bet slip in the strong-arm man's face.

"Do you think I haven't seen that trick elbow gag from a hundred beggars?  Where are my two francs?"

Once Li Mu and his remaining companion are out of sight, Chou-Zhen with gently lower himself until his feet are bearing his weight, then resume his seat and finish his meal.  He notices his mug of ale is nearly empty -- too far down to reach with a finger -- and picks it up to finish off the contents, then holds the mug for a moment, before giving a slight shake of his head and slowly setting it back on the table.

To no one in particular, "It was worth two francs to see the look on that tough's face when I accused him of throwing the game.  And watching the one with the amulet run away was priceless!"

"We need to cause trouble. Not so much that we're attacked out right, but so they throw us out in a way that allows us to drag our heels and prolong the conflict. Something loud."

"We could start a brawl...Let Chye find some other type, he no like."

"Oh, I wouldn't say he's nobody -- he's just not important to you until he's either a subordinate, and ally, or an enemy.  I think it's safe to say he'll be important in some way -- assuming he's actually descended of a dragon, as he says he is, he practically can't help being.

"I've never seen an actual dragon..."  Chou-Zhen's voice trails off, and he seems to be looking into the middle distance of the sky.

Still watching the guards on the stairs As he waits for them to wade into the brawl, Chou-Zhen shouts "Ales!  Watch your step!"  Once the guards from upstairs have reached the ground floor, he speaks a short phrase, barely audible beyond arm's reach because of the noise of the scrum, and makes a horizontal smoothing gesture with his right hand.

It is as if the spilled soup had become the highest quality of grease, and the area of the brawl dissolves into a mass of folk mainly struggling to stand or falling to the floor.

The guards and brawlers mostly flop about comically, and the waiter, carrying trays of soup and noodles almost holds his footing, but everything goes flying.

Ales sees Chou's head nodding and follows.  As he heads in the groups general direction, he sees Chou making a set of hand gestures and immediately moves out of the way.

As he looks back to see the result of Chou's spell, he laughs and smiles as he sees the mess of patrons on the floor.

"The slippery floor will last ten minutes, regardless how much soup the staff mops up.  I have just enough energy to cast such a spell again, but I can't recall how I did it, and I have nothing else as disruptive that will do minimal harm to people or the house.

"Perhaps you have something in the line of an illusion?"

"Jin, is there something we should prepare to do when this spell ends and everyone can suddenly stand and walk normally?"

"I have no doubt that many will demand replacements for food and drink they were unable to consume; and there was some breakage of crockery.  Staff were occupied futilely mopping with vinegar, attempting to correct the slippery floor.  That, and the brawl, resulted in a period when no food or drink was ordered or served, which will result in reduced income for the day.  It is hard to picture doing more financial damage without doing harm to the community.

"Moreover, that was not our primary mission for this visit -- we were to provide a diversion to allow others to enter by stealth and gain information we may use in the future, to do Akira Aku No much greater financial harm with far less risk to the community than a large disturbance here would bring."

Chye stands finds a place to stand, out of the way. When the people flee, he'll make like a "brave warrior" going to see what the trouble is, and head inside!

Chou-Zhen approaches the one Ales called Bresnark as quickly as the crowd permits, muttering a complex word.  He shakes his head, queue twitching, and rotates his left hand in a limbering movement.  Still closing with Bresnark, he speaks again.  A trained or very acute ear might hear a slight difference in the pronunciation.  His left hand fills with lightning that forms into a whip.

As soon as the whip is fully formed and he's within its two-yard reach, he lashes at Bresnark, though the lash goes wide.

Ales, acting as if Chou had hypnotized him, follows him as if an obedient puppy.

Chou-Zhen speaks over his shoulder in Sahudese.  "Perhaps this isn't an ordinary spirit."  He then beckons to the "spirit" and continues following Jin toward the casino entrance.

Chye puts his bow away, and grunts with distaste at the thought of attacking the guards, who most likely think they are repelling an evil force. Seeing Chou attack them, he nonchalantly goes round the opposite side of the upper balcony, from where the melee is taking place, where he might make a sudden, and unexpected flank attack... if needed.

One of the men tosses aside his weapon and steps away. One looks uncertain, as if ge feared somerhing more than Jin, and the other points at Ales. You can see ge has an amulet around his neck, and bits of red silk tied to his gear. His eyes are wide.
"Not man with illusion of pestilence spirit! Spirit with sometime seeming of a man! Foul thing, you cannot pass!"

Ales tosses the nagapetto at the guard who has the amulet.   "Stupid idiot", Ales says in Sahudese.

Chou-Zhen flips his leather whip to land near the feet of the guard without the red ribbons.  He speaks a soft word -- perhaps more than one word, it's difficult to be certain, even if you can hear clearly.  A crackling, writhing cloud of lightning-like sparks envelopes the smoke surrounding the guard.

Jin stares at the defiant guard, his eyes not watering in the smoke.
Suddenly, he thrusts forward with the tip of his tetsubo, ramming the second one in the gut. He recovers the tetsubo, all without breaking eye contact with the superstitious guard.

"You have faith in your convictions.  I respect that. He could not make up his mind, so I madde it up for him. Now I ask you one more time, are you more afraid of what your employer will do if this spirit advanves, or of what we will do if you persist?"

Chou-Zhen flails his lightning whip around himself, a display rather than an attack, while staring at the red-ribboned guard.

Chye keeps a low profile amongst the other sahudese, and watches the others handle the guards. Not satisfied at the outcome, but impressed by the efficiency at which they were handled. "Osu.."

Looking around for additional guards, Chou-Zhen allows his lightning whip to lapse and transfers his leather whip back to his left hand.  He takes a vial from his belt, discards the stopper, and stuffs a finger in, absorbing the contents.

"Are we all here?  Ready for the next stage?"

Chye follows behind the group, protecting their rear from would-be pursuers, with "Lóng zhuǎ" *Dragon Claw*, his naginata at the ready. Chye bellows an explanation in Sahudese, as the group pushes through:"This is a punitive raid on behalf of the Daimyo. As his representitives, we have taken over the responsibility of overseeing the shipping of our countrymen, back home for burial. This was your bosse's task, but he has failed, and those in his service have summoned demons which have raised our countrymen to undeath. We had to put them down again, and now we shall finish this task, and see it to completion, and will be confiscating the funds necessary. Do not interfere with us, or we shall be forced to harm you." (Chye is truthful -5) *bellowing with penetrating voice*

Chou-Zhen continually flips his whip (the popper still glowing bright as a torch from a spell a few days previous) as he advances down the stairs toward the casino.  Halfway down, he transfers the leather whip to his right hand, where he continues flipping it to keep it clear of his feet in a movement reminiscent of walking with a cane; with a gesture and a word, a ball of crackling energy forms in his left hand.
