The odor of slorn is strong.
The opening looks to be about three to four yards from the surface below.

In reply to Goran the Marked (msg # 420):

The area below looms paved andnot natural, but the wall above the gap, along with the ceiling, shows signs of being unsteady construction. Most of the damage is quite old, perhaps a few centuries, but the gap has been recently expanded.

In reply to Goran the Marked (msg # 424):

The lower level has a barrel vaulted ceiling, and rough flagstone flooring. The masonry is less polished, and not marked with decorative tile like the level above.

The walls have claw marks under the opening, and there is a strong reptilian  odor. Not far away, there is a bronze gate  hanging partway out of its frame, which is  surrounded by broken masonry. A few chunks lie on the paving.
The space carries  on running mostly northeast/southwest as far as your light source allows.

Goran carefully pushes past the gate and keeps going. He attempts to avoid scraping or creaking the broken metal if possible.

In reply to Hograth Podkarmen (msg # 428):

Beyond the ruined gate is a large room  (10 yards wide and long) with four porticullises, two on each side. There are thick pillar supported vaults supporting the ceiling, and another door sized gate at the far end. Two of the porticullises are down, one is open, and one is smashed outward. There is a an endless chain hanging by each of the porticullises along with a lever.

The poticulli can be raised by applying considerable strength to the chain, releasing them seems to be a simple lever pull.
