In reply to Hograth Podkarmen (msg # 465):

Something slornlike moves in the dark. It is emaciated and ragged, with bare bone showing in places. It is quite skeletal and reeks of death.

In reply to scaly thing (msg # 466):

Hograth muttered.

"Undead slorn, perfect. Lets see if it can breath some horrible cloud before we release it."

{OOC: Is it behind a gate?]

[Private to GM: Rolled 2 under Hidden Lore(Undead) to recognize this, Rolled 5 under target to hit head (target included penalty for head and -4 for bars).]

A matter of concern for the Hadereum

In reply to Hograth Podkarmen (msg # 467):

The undead slorn is behind a gate...
which is now rimed with frost as it scrapes its claws against the bars...

The massive bolt finds its way into the creature's jaws, but seems to do less damage than against the living slorn.

In reply to Urrun (msg # 469):

"Fire you say. I have a quart of lamp oil I could put on my bolts, but I suspect it could be better used. Lets try weakening it first with a heap of regular bolts, but I will aim for the neck instead, to see if enough hits can cause its undead head to topple off..."

He loads up and fires, as before, but aiming for the neck. Again, and again, and again....

[Private to GM: Rolled 2 minutes worth of attacks. Target to hit, 15, damage impaling to neck.
Attack 1: 9 under, 17 damage
Attack 2: 3 under, 12 damage
Attack 3: 9 under, 11 damage
Attack 4: 7 under, 19 damage
Attack 5: 5 under, 19 damage
Attack 6: 2 under, 13 damage
Attack 7: 1 under, 10 damage
Attack 8: 6 under, 12 damage

All rolls assume no active defence, since none has been seen. I assume you will modify accordingly if this changes.

In reply to Hograth Podkarmen (msg # 470):

After a two minute barrage, the thing collapses, but is still twitching.

Fire may help, but silver is the surest means of keeping it dead. To engage in melee attacks,  the gate must be lifted.

[Private to Narrator: it is at HT-5, and needs to take at least 25 pts of silver damage, or be reduced to -10 ht to actually die.]

He puts his crossbow back on his pack and readies his shield, then axe.

In reply to Goran the Marked (msg # 478):

Black smoke errupts from each silvered strike until the dead thing is smouldering ash.

In the back of the cell, which is four yards wide by ten deep, are the shattered but still moving remains of a manlike figure wearing rusty shredded mail. It  seems to have a broken spine, and one leg is missing

A bluish light still glows in its eye sockets.

A matter of concern for the Hadereum

In reply to Hograth Podkarmen (msg # 484):

Hograth recognizes the now deceased thing to have been a wight, much like the slorn. Wights are formed when burial rites are profaned, and the evil that one leaves behind with one's physical form seizes control of the remains.  They are weak toward silver or magical weapons and sunlight, but otherwise nearly impossible to kill.  Their chill touch drains lifeforce, and any that die of it return as wights themselves.

Most likely, a wight was cast in with the slorn in an attempt to create an undead beast.

Once all have been dispatched with, Hograth will check the remains for valuables, including cutting up the slorn, though he is very cautious about touching (or not!) the ex-wights.

The small door looks like it might head out of the area.

Inside the room with the undead, there is a cracked leather pouch with a handful of coin, including one gold piece and some silver, and a shortsword that looks to be of good quality, with an engraved design on the blade.

Which slorn are you going to disembowl?
