Re: At a back table in the guildhall

Oz turns to the skyelf. "Just our luck. This part of town, and we find the one shopkeeper with a conscience." Patting his pocket, he jingled the coins in his purse. "I bet he doesn't even sell that new paut."

"Well I'll have to talk to my boss about the other purchases, but our mage gave me some coin to buy the paut. I'll take one bottle." He paid for the purchase with Valdnur's coin, and headed back to the group.

“Lemme see,” said Rick, when Oz returned with some Paut.

He unpacked his lab and started running some tests to discern the possible alternative ingredients, where they may have come from, and, if possible, who in Northport might have access to them.

In reply to Theadric Greenbottle (msg # 41):

The paut is bluish, and while you detect the silver, there seems to be a significant amount of grain alchohol in it, as well as some type of eggwhite, but no blood. The grain alchohol is not malt or wheat.

“Arthur, hit the books and see if you can find out what type of bird other than a scarlet ibis, are sacred to or connected to Thoth, god of magic,” said Rick. “And see if we can’t find a list of distilleries in town.”

Re: At a back table in the guildhall

“Aye let me see what I can find about any birds related to gods of magic. While I’m there I will jot the list down if it is available in the library”

With a grunt Arthur jumps to the floor and wanders away from the table towards the library. Finally something to look forward to, some peace and quiet surrounded by beautiful books.

Re: At a back table in the guildhall

Oz walks over to Valnur and drops a handful of coins on the table in front of him. "I tried to get a receipt, but he wouldn't give me one on account of it being a black market transaction. But I swear on Rick's life that this is what was left from the purchase. I'm going to see about the distilleries."

19:43, Today: Osgood rolled 12 using 3d6.  streetwise 13.

Re: At a back table in the guildhall

In reply to Osgood (msg # 47):

While only ibises are sacred to Toth, and Hermes/Mercury has no associated bird, the faith of the raiding people has a god of magic named Wotan who keeps ravens.

And technically,  the guild maintains not a library, but the Dismal Tower of the sages does. A days research costs 1 silver- that result took less than that, make free with two more research rolls.

A good person to ask about distilleries and grain alchohol would be Eustache, as he mentioned something about buying Madiera from an importer here in town.

Re: At a back table in the guildhall

After spending a short time in the library Arthur discovers what he is looking for and returns to his friends to tell them.

"There is no other bird associated with Toth, but there is a God of Magic worshiped by a tribe of raiders that keeps Ravens and that may be the source of this new paut. I am not as familiar with the alchemical ways as Rick but it would make sense to me that this new paut is based in Ravens blood."

“Eggwhite, actually,” said Rick. “Let’s see if Eustache can help us find a still.”

Rick packed up his gear and went to inquire of Eustache about stills in Northport.

Re: At a back table in the guildhall

You find Eustache at the Silver Purse, a fairly swanky inn.

"Distilleries? I know of none in Northport. The fellow DuClair, who I am buting Madiera from imports it from Valdassya. There was another at an Abbey just to the south, but it has lain in ruins since the plague. There us a fine one southwest of here,in Sonne but they had some kind of security issue, someone stole over a tonne of spirit from them a month ago."

“Thank you, Eustache,” he said, finishing his drink in one gulp. “Do you have any contacts in Sonne familiar with the situation? I think we’re looking for whoever took the spirits, or at least whoever paid them to do it.”

In reply to Theadric Greenbottle (msg # 52):

"There is quite a bit of chatter in the guild about that incident. A tonne is quite a bit of spirit, and the barrel was left behind. Falchan et Fils, the distillery may be ruined by the loss, and that quantity of spirit was to have been sold to the Mageguild for a small fortune!"

Ooc: 1 tonne is 125 gallons; distilled spirit goes for $16 per pint.

“Thanks, he said. “I’ll see what I can turn up.”

He returned to the rest of the crew and waited until everyone had returned.

“Looks like we may have a lead. This Paut contains some grain alcohol, a large quantity of which was recently stolen from a distillery called Falchan et Fils in Sonne. Let’s see if we can turn up info on who stole it, and where we can find them.”

Espiri replies to Rick, "So someone stole a lot of alcohol and decided Paut was a better use than just drinking it? Hah. I'm not sure whether to approve of their greed, or to frown upon removing that much alcohol from the market."

He muses, "Someone has to know something of where that much alcohol could be stored after stealing it. I'll go visit the local taverns and see if I hear anything."

In reply to Valdnur Silverheart (msg # 57):

Valdur ends up in a tavern brawl, and gets knocked around a little, despite managing to put his attackers on the floor, down 1 hp.

Osgood hears about a raid that happened about three weeks ago, where a beer distributor with an old imperial arena in the basement was raided. The proprieter of the fight club, an ogrekin named Vilgar, fled underground with a small keg that was described as being unusually heavy.

Re: At a back table in the guildhall

Valdnur staggers back over to the table where his companions are dining their ale. His nose is bleeding and there is a cut above his left eyebrow; he picks up his ale, blood dripping into it, and downs it.

He sighs and wipes his face, "Sooo.... That half-orc was less than helpful, well I mean I feel better after getting my mad out, but I didn't get anything useful."

Osgood recalls something about this Vilgar character- he runs a couple of arena locations around town, and keeps offices in the guild.  The place he had before is now a watch station.
