Re: At a back table in the guildhall

In reply to Osgood (msg # 135):

Osgood walks into a cobweb, and gets it in his eyes. He will be mildly disadvantaged for a minute. The others notice that some of the brickwork in the fireplace looks recent, there appears to be a trapdoor under the broken table.

The loft is a cramped space with some ruined bedding and some rats!

Re: At a back table in the guildhall

Arthur notices how dusty and run down the room is but also notices the new stonework done on the fireplace and goes over to investigate, looking for any hidden compartments or levers and any other reason there might be new work done on this but everything else left in shambles.

OOC: Wasn't sure what to roll for searching a fireplace so I rolled a couple
15:44, Today: Arthur rolled 14 using 3d6. search/15 searching fireplace.
15:43, Today: Arthur rolled 11 using 3d6.  per/16 searching fireplace.

Re: At a back table in the guildhall

In reply to Arthur (msg # 137):

Occ the skill Search, which is per-5 lets you find all of the hidey holes in an area.

You can determine that the recent brickwork is concealing the back of the hearth, and the work carries partway up the flue, which you can see to be full of smoke-someone is routing smoke up this chimney without it spilling out into the room, possibly  from underneath.

Meanwhile, the trap door on the other side has an iron ring to pull it up with.

The new brickwork is shoddy, and could be collapsed with forced entry, but might be loud.

Espiri gets bored of the talking, and decides to just lift the trapdoor in the floor. He says, "Let's see what is behind door number one!"

Sorry, guys. Impulsive.

There is a faint jangling sound from below as the trapdoor, and an attached line of thread is pulled. The opening is about a yard square, and wooden rungs descend into the dark.

Espiri quickly grabs a torch from his backpack. He holds it up and gestures to Arthur, "Light it up."

Once the torch is lit Espiri lobs it gently down into the dark.

Irritated at the air man's impatience Arthur looks over at the torch then at the hole under the trap door and drops a ball of flame down the hole instead.  "There that should provide ample light and inform anyone down there of our presence if you haven't already done so."

Cast Create Fire over the opening of the trapdoor small enough that it just barely fits through the hole under the trapdoor and falls all the way to the bottom.

In reply to Arthur (msg # 148):

The torchlight reveals a flagstone floor and a small room roughly the size of the one you are in, with a heavy door at one end, next to what looks like a metal pipethat protrudes through the wall and meets the base of the fireplace.

Espiri says, "We can handle whoever is down there. You were wasting time. This way we get paid faster."

The swashbuckler drops down the shaft, trusting in the air to catch him just a scant few inches above the floor.

Valdnur quickly sheathes his crossbows and runs after Espiri, "Dammit lad!"

"After him!"He shouts as he attempts to slide down the sides of the ladder to quickly descend. When he hits the ground he redraws two pistol crossbows.

15:57, Today: Valdnur Silverheart rolled 14 using 3d6.  Acrobatics 12. Fail by 2 to slide on the ladder.

A little bit of light shines from under the man sized door (which opens outward), and you can hear two gruff voices.

The room your in is three yards wide on the door side. Who is in the front line?

Valdnur Silverheart:
"Alright, after we get that tied we're going in. Os, you lead, then Espiri, Arthur, and Rick; I'll bring up the rear." Valdnur says pulling out two pistol crossbows and checking that they're fully loaded, "Any additions, corrections, or deletions to the plan?"

with Khoza going after Os per the post following this one. :)
