Deanna will try to ask him about entering, telling him that the Guild had sent her to speak to the a blue haired elf rumoured to be working here. She will show her guild badge.

(I’m a little confused, but I’m assuming that Masugatan is with Reanna, while Dne is waiting elsewhere.)

Aegis rounds the corner of the street that Reanna is on and sees her standing by the big man at the door. He slows his pace and continues forward, tossing a throwing dagger into the air and catching it by the tip of the blade. About 30 feet away, Aegis leans against a building across the street and observes as nonchalantly as possible. He also scans up and down the street, looking for the rest of the companions, hood up to hide his identity.

The man eyes Reanna and Masugatan warily. "You mean Marie? She's in the back. Which Guild sent you...Adventurer's?"

Looks up and down the street, hoping to spot Dne. An uneasy feeling washes over him as he hears Masugatans words to the stocky doorman.
"A distraction would be lovely, maybe see what kind of security this place has at hand," Aegis mumbles to himself.
Aegis draws a few coins from his purse and rattles them, finding comfort in the jingling of coin in his hand.

She heads in to see Maire to ask her about Balar.

Seeing them enter the building he curses under his breath, having lost sight of them. He continues to scan up and down the street, hoping to spot the priest or the man in the bird mask. Irritability is brewing as he realizes how little cohesion the group actually has, and he sighs in exasperation, hoping the others spot him and come to join him quickly. He runs through a mental checklist, assuring himself he has everything he needs if this bounty turns south quicker than expected.

Melchizadek makes no attempt at stealth as he comes up the street. Not Seeing Reanna or the swordsman, he looks for a cafe or something similar for lunch. He just might ask if the Wench has such, if they advertise such.

Spotting the priest, Aegis walks up.ro him and matches his pace, walking with the man.
"Reanna and masugatan were allowed entry to the wench, but I have no idea of their intentions inside. I believe they have a contact in there.  I suggest we find a decent vantage point to observe from and wait for them." Aegis says quietly, deciding to stick with Melchizedek for the time being.

In reply to Aegis (msg # 22):

"Makes good sense. Lets see if we can enter as customers. Otherwise, find a nearby resteraunt or teahouse..."

"Seems fair enough to me. I'll follow your lead then, but drinks are on me when we reach wherever we're heading," Aegis says quietly, keeping pace with the man.

Dne calmly follows a few paces behind the priest.  He looks somewhat bored.

“Yeah, don’t bother recommending me to Luc,” he says to the bouncer.  “I don’t like guys, anyway.”

Once Reanna and Masugatan are out of sight, Melchizadek will approach the bouncer.

"Does this establishment serve food or drinks, sir?"

A blue haired elf in fine boots and robes is tuning her mandolin. She looks up at Reanna.

"Are you sure Helios would approve of that, Mel? I've heard the patrons of this establishment are cutpurses and assassins, and I can't imagine Him being ok with you keeping company with that sort of rabble," Aegis says, smirking and hoping to get a rise out of the doorman.
He clenches and unclenches his fists a few times, thinking about punching the doorman in the mouth to see if he can get some of the patrons to come outside and possibly reveal Balar.  However he decides against it in hopes of Reanna and Masugatan being successful with their plan.
He turns around and whispers to Mel, being careful that Alphonse doesn't hear him. "I still think the bait plan would've produced results quicker. I feel like there's more we could be doing."

"Balar owns this place. I work here occassionally to entertain his guests."

"Watch it, you! This is a very respectable establishment, and is on the Merchant Guild's approved list of Taverns and Businesses! Don't disparage our clientele that way!"

"So I could become a member then? What advantages, other than access to your well regarded bar and resteraunt would that give?"

Aegis crosses his arms and smirks menacingly, looking down his nose at the man and then back to melchizidek. He however decides to let Mel continue in his.line of questioning, having more faith in the man's plan than any he had come up with so far.

" I think you would need a recommendation from the Merchant's guild, and maybe learn some manners." says the bouncer, glaring at Aegis.

In reply to Alphonse (msg # 37):

"I see. Given how we have helped them trade with the trolls, that should not be hard. We will need to think about it. In the meantime, we do need to eat something..."

He looks around for another restaurant nearby.

"It doesn't seem this is going o get us anywhere soon, Mel. There must be somewhere else we can go and get a drink and some food. We'll just have to hope Reanna is having better luck than us," Aegis says, looking between Dne and Melchizedek.

"That would be useful. Otherwise, we might look at some wasted time," Darius rasped. "I also wouldn't be averse to some food."



OOC: As arranged with our GM, we'll retcon Darius as being a part of this. In case of any issues, I'll delete this post.

Masugatan snorts, disgusted.  This was a whole lot of talk, and he strongly preferred action.

"I see, Marie. Masugatan, perhaps you should wait outside then.

Marie, would you know where i might find him?"

"I'm going to go check if there's a back entrance since we're not getting in here, "Aegis turns around and whispers to Darius.
He turns back around and waves a sarcastic goodbye to Alphonse. He then saunters off towards and around the corner, searching for an alley that may go around the back off the building.
"I'm going to find a place to eat fellas. I'm done here anyway," he says as he walks off, but makes sure to allow them time to follow if the wish.

Melchizadek can do little subtle, so he heads off with Aegis, but he actually does go to find something to eat nearby...without making any attempt to hide.

“Perhaps it is time to try a new approach,” Dne says quietly.  “If they won’t let us in, maybe we should force them to come out.”

Meanwhile, outside: there is anarrow street behind that fronts on a pair of taverns and an inn; the Fatted Calf, the Polished Boss and the Regal Arms.

Using destructive magic in the Merchant's quarter is really frowned upon.

"I see. Do you have any idea where he has gone, or how long he will be? I have a fairly urgent matter for him."

With a sigh, Darius joined the others in getting some food. "I've not been through here before; does one of you know a place where they serve something actually edible?"

"You want to go out to eat?  I thought we had a job to do."

OOC: Masugatan, unless you headed back outside (in which case please post such) you and Reanna are inside talking with Marie trying to find where Balar is, and everyone else is outside, so you really cant participate or hear their conversation.

Aegis turns down the narrow street and heads towards the tavern closest to the back of the Wench. He leans against the wall, pulling his hood down over his eyes, staring intently at the door, waiting for anyone to come out.
"So whats the plan, guys? I'm thinking we wait for a less than reputable looking guy to come outta there, follow him and beat any information we can outta the man, just in case they don't find anything out inside," Aegis says to the others, looking between the two.

The fatted calf has a fine but pricey buffet, and seems frequented by merchants, next door the polished boss looks to cater to caravan guards looking to wet their gullets, and serve heaping pkatters of comfort food, slow stews and buttery pastries.

OOC: That’s fair enough, but if you scroll up a ways, you may notice that YOU responded verbally to something that Masugatan thought, but didn’t say!  I assume that Reanna isn’t a mind-reader.

Dne gazes at Aegis.  “I’m not sure the guild would approve of such tactics, but what you do is your own affair.  I suppose I can always turn my beak the other way.”

"We may not have to beat it out of the man. Maybe you can use some of your magic to intimidate him enough to tell us. And, if we're careful enough, the guild will never know what happened," Aegis says, looking at Dne's mask curiously, wondering what it conceals.
He pulls a dagger out again and starts to flip it into the air, catching it by the blade and repeating the action.

"We could try the Gaurds place. It looks cheaper than the 'Fatted Calf'"

[OOC: Clarity between posting thoughts and spoken words needs to be clear. In all fairness, I know several GMs that specifically ask you not to post thoughts, unless psis are present or other players should be able to have some idea of what you are thinking from body language. Not sure of our GMs ruling on this...]

"The place where the guards gather mother be a good idea. Maybe some of them guards have some.inside information on what roads out of town to avoid because of Balar's men. If you decide to go in there and eat, I'll remain out here and keep an eye out for anyone suspicious looking," Aegis says. He sheaths his dagger and crosses his arms, stretching his neck out and popping his knuckles.

Dne aims his beak at Marie.  “You sing?  How long have you been a singer?  Which style do you sing in?  Go ahead and sing something for us.”

"I am not too sure. Our patron, DuPrix has never been harrassed by Balar, but he pays protection, and he bears a token. I hear of others that pay similarly, and rumors of some merchants paying to have their rivals targeted, but such things are only hearsay.

"I try to stay out of those sorts of conversations. Sometimes it is better for business not to know. And as I said before, troublesome folk are insignificant to me."

Aegis tires of standing around for nothing and decides to go see what the others are up to and get a drink. As he walks in he spots Dne and Melchizidek. He looks at the guards and nods a greeting.
"What have you guys figured out? I haven't seen the others yet, so I have no idea of there indings, if any," Aegis says, seeming quite impatient.

“What have I figured out?  Not much.  But I’m pretty sure that even if we can’t find Balar, sooner or later he’ll send somebody after us, if we keep asking about him.”

"Do you know of any supposedly targeted in that way?"

The guard leans in toward you.
"Hercule Arceneau the spice merchant swears that someone gave him up. He was riding with four guards and over a pound each of cloves and cinnamon. "

Darius, standing in a corner, nodded to Aegis as he entered the tavern. "Looks like the priest might have some lead," he rasped. "Hopefully."

Returns the nod to Darius and stands with him, looking at the patrons of the tavern.
"Maybe we can just find a merchant heading out on that road and see if we can accompany them. The common opinion seems to be that he's out and about, mayhaps he's with his men working. And I agree, dne, soon our group is gonna raise some suspicions asking around about this man, his kind tend to stick together."
As the serving girl approaches, he orders a round of drinks for his companions.

"Where might we find this spice merchant?"

“If we’re to guard this spice merchant’s caravan for him, we should demand payment.  I’m not feeling charitable.”

In reply to Dne Utrotare (msg # 84):

"Some payment would perhaps be in order, but we are not guarding it for the entire trip, and to be honest, if we accept payment to guard his caravan, we need to guarantee that his caravan is protected. If we do not accept payment, then we are under no obligation to ensure the safety of his goods, though I would not like to see him harmed regardless."

“If he makes a substantial offer, why not guard the caravan for the entire journey?  Isn’t that worth considering?”

In reply to Dne Utrotare (msg # 86):

"There is a goid chance Balar will be back at base. If we guard for the whole journey, we will not be able to go after him. "

Did the guard know where to find the merchant?

Darius nodded. "I agree with Melchizidek. We have a simple task with a payoff. Let us not complicate it with another."

"He is somewhere in the guild. I doubt he is heading out any time soon, but it happened on the Southeast Road."

"So perhaps we just disguise ourselves as merchants and head that way..."

“Can’t we fly and chew worms at the same time?”  Dne says off-handedly.  But he makes no further comment about the matter.

If you are heading out of town, some supplies might be needed.

"We may not have to disguise ourselves at all, if we're lucky. There could be a wagon or group of merchants heading out and we could simply fall in line behind them. If not, disguising ourselves as merchants may be the best idea. We could head to the southeast gate and hope like hell that there are some well off types heading out. Sounds to me that this Balar fellow is well known amongst the merchants, I doubt any merchants would mind us following them until they get ambushed. However, I agree with dne, in that we should gather the others and head out, unless anyone needs anything from the stores. I've got rations for myself, so I should be fine. "

Melchizadek shrugs and says in an uncharacteristically loud voice.

"Actually, come to think of it, the tithe from the local temple of Helios needs to be taken to assist some in need at Lescrue. Bandits or no bandits, it needs to get there. Perhaps if we leave sooner, they will be busy and not hear of it...lets grab some supplies and head out."

He thanks the gaurd more quietly, and gets up to leave.

Reanna thanks her for her time, and gets up to leave.

If nothing else is said, she will leave the building to see who else is waiting outside when she gets there.

“How many supplies do you think we’ll need?  And how long do you expect this to take?”

Renting a mule can be done for $20 a day, with a deposit of $200 and a blood and hair sample for the spellcaster employed by the livery stable to Track you with.

"Renting a mule, with the halter and saddlebags, would certainly be cheaper. Who can handle animals to take responsibility for it?

That would bring the price down to $1505, assuming no longer than 7 days."

Reanna has returned. Can we assume we are all back together on the street outside, heading towards a supply shop?

"I have $140 in coin to my name, but I will pitch in. No animal handling abilities to speak of, whatsoever though. Whatever coin any of us pitch in will be worth it in the end when this bounty gets cashed in, though.
Melchizidek, would you like to be in charge of the coin?"
He fishes around in his coin purse, pulling the coin out and offers it to melchizidek if he wants to be in charge of the coinage, trusting that a man of the cloth would not take advantage of him.

“I thought we came to make money, not spend it.”

In reply to Dne Utrotare (msg # 106):

"Sometimes one needs to spend money in order to make it. Should we not take supplies or accommodation for you in the wilderness? Besides, as we deplete supplies, we can use the ass to carry loot, which increases our money making abilities.

Keep the money for now, and we can all spend it together. Pickpockets could rob me otherwise, and I don't want such distrust sown."

"And whether we pay for accommodations in town or for rations on the road does not make much of a difference," Darius rasped. "Except for comfort, of course."

Nods and places the coin back in his pouch, making sure to clasp it shut.
"So, we should be in our way then. I'm ready to go spill some bandit blood and get paid.

Dne seems less than thrilled about this arrangement, but he seems willing to go along with it.

400 of that is rations. Melchizedek can produce food, though it is not appetizing, and would drain him. As healer, that has risks, but that can save some. $160 has been allowed for sleeping blankets, but if folk have their own, that can also be reduced. Anyone add to that?

OK, if Melchizedek extends his part to $565, then with Masugatans part we will have $1205, enough for everything except the $400 of rations, getting only $100 of rations (50 rations).

Can we all agree that these living expenses are repaid out of reward BEFORE distribution of reward?

And speaking of that, do we all agree on equal shares based on ability, 1 share per 250 point character, including items taken and used?

"I have enough rations to get me through 6 days and a blanket. That will save some coin."
He tightens his pack and adjusts his shortsword on his belt.

"Ok, anybody else have rations or a blanket? Otherwise, we need one for Mechizadek, Dne, Reanna, Masugatan and Darius, five in all. 50 rations will divide equally between the five of us as well, giving 10 rations each. That means the five of us will owe $40 more than Aegis, who has provided his own rations and blanket.

We need to confirm the mule comes with a pair of saddlebags and a halter, as well as horseshoes.

Also, as the food I create is a gift from Helios, we should repay him by giving to his temple $1 for every meal he provides."

He arrives at the market to make the requested purchases, suggesting Masugatan and Aegis go for the mule, while he gives Darius an extra $5 to get the 2 waterproof barrels and group basics and flint. He suggests that Reanna can assist him carrying the purchases back (Purchases equaling their contributions!). He and Dne head off for the rest.

As they were moving through the streets, even Darius could notice their followers. "Those look friendly", he whispered.

Aegis looks back, careful to not be too obvious that he's looking for their stalkers. He looks back to Darius and nods.
"They sure are bold. Not trying to hide their presence or nothing. Mayhaps, me and masugatan can sneak off the road and trail our pursuers, they may link up with more of their companions. It would be nice to have them surrounded a bit when they do attack. If one of you spell slingers could come with us that would be even better," Aegis says quietly, making sure all of  his companions can hear him.

Reanna responds by dropping back. She had never really walked that closely with the group since she was wanting to see the effects of her story, but on noticing the eyes on them, she dropped back even further, looking like a normal traveler who just happened to be going that direction, just a little more slowly.

Darius kept close to the main group, but kept his distance to the mule. On the few occasions where he didn't, the animal snarled and put its ears on.

Dne hangs back and eyes their stalkers with amusement.  He can hardly wait to use his powers again!

A number of those heading out the gate pass you and stay in a ttight group. Of the three behind you, one fades back into the crowd and avoids the guards. The other two are walking very slowly, and seem to be looking for something just off the side of the road.  Brush has been cut back outside the city wall, in part for defense, in part to make space for the feastday fairs that are held out of city limits.


At the treeline, fifty yards out, you can see a small number of huts and shanties. Your pursuers are looking in that direction.

Keeping low to the ground, Aegis starts to move toward the small village outside of the gate, watching the men intently. He makes sure to keep the rest of the party within visual range of himself and stops about halfway to the villa, posting up again in a kneeling position, bow across his lap, trying to remain hidden.

Darius, close to the mule, tightens the grip on his quarterstaff. He looks ready for a fight, though not aiming to start one judging from the fact that he wasn't throwing spells at people.

Aegis nocks an arrow and watches the men intently, mentally ready to fire on them if need be. He scans the road ahead, looking for any signs of danger and sighs quietly, growing quite bored of not being in a scuffle.

The club wielding rabble are ahead, and spread out. The two approaching had gotten to the line of stones before acting; the one who whistled just dropped to the ground. The other one's face just fell.

He stands and breaks out from his hiding spot, raising the axe into a throwing position.  He aims at the man standing next to the one who whistled and throws his axe, aiming for the man's chest.

As they get closer to the group, Aegis pulls the rope from where it hangs on the side of his pack and drops his axe into it's holster at his belt. He walks around them and starts to tie them up, the rope around their wrists, then to the next man and so on until they are all tied together.

He pulls the wanted poster from his pocket and compares the picture to the rabble lined up in front of him. He walks to the first man in line and smirks at him.
"Have you seen this man? Where is he? If you tell me, I may find the last bit of mercy I have in this heart of mine for you. The bill doesn't say a thing about bringing you lot back alive."

Aegis walks away and to the man with the axe in his chest. He places his foot on the man's shoulder and bends down, wrenching the axe free with a quick jerk. He turns and walks back to the group talking to the man, pulling a rag from a pocket in his leather jacket. When he arrives, he makes it a point to clean the man's friend's blood from the blade in front of him, an unspoken threat evident.
"You had best answer the priest's questions. He seems a lot less prone to violence when he doesn't get what he wants. You don't want me to start asking questions. We will get answers from you,
one way or another."

Aegis gives the others a chance to follow him and then walks off towards the shanties, axe in hand. When he arrives he slows down a bit, surveying the area.

Aegis smirks as the man collapses and walks up to him. Kneeling next to him, he taps him on the shoulder with his axe.
"Wakey wakey, shithead. I've got quite a few questions for you. Now, Reanna, train that crossbow on him in case he decides to get any bright ideas."

Darius, watching the ice melt and Aegis intimidating the robber, stayed in the background. Time to leave it to the professional.

Aegis looks at the man and shrugs, feeling like he isn't going to get and answer out of him.  Standing and turning to the others, he shrugs in a gesture of defeat.
"If you would be so kind to bring me my rope, I can tie the man up and one of you can give it a go. Doesn't seem that he's to scared of me. At least not enough to answer my questions.

The guard accepts the line of prisoners. You can all rest a bit.

The formerly frozen cutpurse is weak from fatigue loss from the ice, and barely able to stand. He looks terrified.

Darius handed Aegis a piece of rope to bind the cutpurse with. "It might be a good idea to talk," he rasped.

"I don't think it necessary to tie the man up. He won't make it far,
even if he does decide to run," Aegis says as he grabs his rope from Darius.
He turns his attention to Melchizidek and walks to him, speaking lowly so the bandit can't
 hear him.
"if you are capable, mayhaps you can restore a bit of this man's energy. He may be
 willing to talk if it appears we are willing to show him some mercy. The man doesn't stand a
 chance of getting away, however, with Reannas's crossbow trained on him."

He turns his attention to the man again and knocks his axe against his shield loudly, trying
to get his attention.
"I will get the answers I seek out of you, boy, one way or another. You should really
consider making this easier on yourself, there's a ton to lose for you at this point. Consider
 how much your family will miss you. We've already turned your friends over to the guard, if
you cooperate, we may set you free, man."

Once the prisoners have been handed over, Melchizedek checks on the donkey, when Aegis comes over and speaks to him.

"If he is not being cooperative, I will gladly speak with him."

He moves over to the prisoner.

"So you are the one who would rob Helios of funds that are to help the poor in order to
 line your own pockets, are you? Perhaps I should ask Helios to provide some insight."

He will start preparing to pray.

“I got your fancy walkin’ stick... right here!”  Masugatan grabs his crotch.

Aegis laughs a bit at the man's brazenness and then shrugs to himself. He flexes his hand around the grip of his axe forcing his knuckles to pop.
"If he doesn't start answering questions, we can arrange for him to meet his God a bit earlier than he expected. I had no problems sending his friends, he won't be much of a challenge."
Aegis walks around the man, placing himself between him and the shanty town, in case he decides to make a break for it.

“Maybe torture him first?” Dne asks hopefully.

He chuckles at dne'd comment and turns his attention to Darius.
"we may have a better time getting him to talk if he's dead first. Maybe the necromancer can reanimate him and we can get the information from his corpse, but I'm not sure that would work, to be honest. I don't know about you guys,
but I'm growing tired of arguing with the man. I say we get what we need from him and kill him."
As Aegis grows more impatient with the man, his bloodlust becomes more evident.

As you are threatening the prisoner in front of the city watch, who are having none of it, there approaches from the fields, and entering 5he edge of the road toward you a number of adventuring types, including two elves and what looks to be a small earthen golem or elemental. The group has about seven members.

Darius, moving to calm down Aegis, was interrupted first by the town watch and then by the newcomers. "As your prisoner, you'll surely keep him from escaping," Darius asked the guards and thanked them before turning towards the oncoming group. "Think it's just chance they turn up now?" he asked nobody in particular.

"I've learned in.my days,
barely anything happens by chance. Mayhaps we can talk to this lot, see what they have to say and continue down the road a ways. The information given to us said we would find him down this road, perhaps we hadn't gone far enough."
He scans the approaching group for any heraldry or signs of alliance. He slides his axe back into it's holster at his back and takes his shield off of his arm, placing it over his back.
"We should probably introduce ourselves.  They may have learned something on their way back. If that doesn't pan out, we may as well pick up where we left off and head on down the road."

Melchizadek watches the group carefully as he hands over the pick[pocket and prepares to lead his mule away. Adventuring types in Northport are usually associated with the guild, so he looks for such badges, or any folk he might recognize.

Kirpich, a darks skinned man with an expensive symbol of Grom, approaches and flashes his guild badge on seeing Melchizadeks badge hanging at his neck.

Darius Kopaki - dark green robes, dark hair, gaunt face - moved his silver staff to his left hand and brandished his guild token with his right before slightly bowing as a greeting. "As Reanna said," he rasped, "we looking for some bandits which are supposed to operate on this road. Did you happen to run into any?"

"We met some, but you wont be looking for them, because they will no longer be a threat. We have one prisoner from them, you can feel free to question him, but he was sent by the Saturnites, the representative of whom was given a more permanent death than his first one, so unless you are seeking them, he is unlikely to be of any assistance."

Aegis shows his guild badge as well and nods to the other in greeting. He walks.closer to the prisoner and looks him over, head to toe. He smirked and puts his hands on his hips.
"Has he been agreeable with  your group? Can't work to hard to get answers out of him with the guard so close. Balar, man, have you heard the name? We've come calling for him. I have a few....issues we need to discuss with the man."

A blond man in blank and silver mail makes sure his guild badge is visible while keeping an eye both on the discussion by the prisoner and looking for any others appoaching the now larger gathering.  Sadly he appears a bit worse for wear, with mud and dirt marring his looks.

The prisoner of this new group, a man being dragged on a travois along with another, looks to have been very badly injured.

Neither man looks to be part of an organized force, and their injuries look to be a week or more old. This group and their horse enterred the road from the northeast, and did not come from the direction Balar is suspected of being on.

Masugatan uses his guild badge to scratch his itching naturals, then puts it away.

Aegis nods and smiles, an unexpected look for him. He nods and extends a hand in gratitude to Stringfellow.
"Honestly, it doesn't seem.were going to get what we need from him,
your lot came from a different road altogether. I had just figured these treacherous types usually run together, twas worth a shot." Aegis says, and then turns his attention back to his group. "I suggest we stick with our plan then and go further down our original path."

Dne hoots twice and tweets thrice, then follows the priest.  He is obviously growing impatient.

This Balar had better be worth it... the cost of electricity was terribly steep these days.  Dne had the feeling the bill would be higher than usual this month.

After clasping Aegis' hand, Stringfellow waves to the others in the group as they depart.

"Fair winds and good luck on your hunt. Oh, and beware slippery rocks when you traverse streams."

Darius bowed waved goodbye to the departing group, then hurried to catch up with the others.

“Slippery rocks don’t present me with much difficulty,” Dne mutters.  “Unlike some people, I can walk on air.”

Aegis pulls his shield from off of his backpack and straps it back on his left arm. He waves goodbye to the other guild members and heads off again with his companions.

Aegis comes back to the group, returning from the side of the road he picked. He points to  the spot he found to show the group.
"This looks to be the best spot around, at least to my knowledge. If everyone is ok with that, we should organize night watch shifts and gather firewood. I'm growing hungry, myself, and imagine you all must be too.
Assuming the group accepts (and the roll works), he leads them to the spot. He takes his backpack off and sets it down on the ground next to him. He kneels next to it and starts to rifle through the bag and eventually pulls his rations out, which he eats so quickly he barely tastes the dried meat. He props his shield against his pack and removes his shortsword, leaning it against the shield as well.
"Unless someone else wants it, I'll take first watch. If someone wants to go with me we can go gather firewood and kindling for the night, and scout the area a little better.

He swallowed the last bite, then walked to the centre of the camp and drew a circle into the dust. Soon, arcane mumbling was audible, followed by cursing and more arcane mumbling.

Everything being agreed upon, with the exception of who is pitching tents, he stands and heads into the woods searching for firewood. He gathers a fair share, paying very close attention to his surroundings, always on edge. He notices that the crew is camped in a good spot, not easily visible from afar and provides cover, though someone will have to find water in the morning.
After he decides that he's gathered enough wood, he turns and heads back to camp. He brings the wood near the middle of the campsite, and sets it down. He then walks back off to the treeline and kneels at a tree to grab some kindling. with that in hand he goes to his pack, grabs his Flint and steel and returns to the area he intends to build the fire. He clears an area for a pit and works at starting a fire in silence.

Masugatan offers to pitch the tents, as this is something he enjoys doing.  Even if he isn’t particularly skilled at it.

“If necessary, I could climb high in the air and look around.  But only if nobody feels like scouting.”

"Once camo is set and we have a fire started that would be a great idea.
Maybe look around to see if others have set camp around here and then we can send a scouting party of our own to check and see if maybe it's Balar and his crew."

The flying Sparks Aegis is creating eventually catch and he blows in the fire lightly, ensuring the kindling is lit before he places the rest of the limbs back. With a small fire going, Aegis stands and wipes his hands on his pants. He places his flint and steel back in his pack and regroups with everyone.
"So, Dne, about your search.
I think it would be wise you could get high enough to see if u notice any other camp fires burning. It'd be nice to know if we set camp around any others. I imagine the bandits have a more permanent camp set up somewhere along this road. They may have a fire burning, if so, and if we're feeling up to it, we.could try to catch them in their sleep," he says, making a chopping motion with his hand.
"I could also go scout the immediate area and see if we have anything to worry about. One of you could come with, if you wish. Company would be appreciated in case I run into anything."

Your well provisioned campsite is not the most comfortable, but the boulders beside the fire make it hard to see the fire from afar.

Those of you with night vision of some kind may scout, but if a light source is used, it can be seen from afar.

Not having night vision, Deanna soon questions her usefulness as a scout at night and returns ho camp.

A few feet into the woods and he decides it to be a useless endeavour and returns to camp with Reanna.
"<Dne, how's about you take yo the skies and see if anything stands out as suspicious to you, lad?" We could use a little intelligence about our surroundings."

Dne complies, climbing air until he has a totally unobstructed view of their surroundings.  What does he see?

At a considerable distance away, perhaps a mile or more, he can just make out a poit of light that maybe a campfire.

"So what's the plan when we catch up with him? He won't be coming willingly, that's for sure. My guess is he'll try forcing you to hand it over without a fight. I can lead a small advance party to strike when they spring their trap. Maybe Reanna, me and Dne if they are willing. We could do quite a bit of damage if we get the jump on them and provide cover for those with the mule." 
He takes a seat by the fire and scoops up a handful of pebbles, which he begins throwing one by one into the fire pit. He scans then area surrounding the camp and takes notes of spots he would raid the camp from were the roles reversed.

"As I understand, the reward is not lessened if he is dead. He will not run away in that state. An advanced party sounds good, but it might be best to wait until just before we arrive before hitting them, so that the main force can assist immediately. I am guessing they will be focussed on the mule, so an advance party, as well as a rear guard, might be wise. So Reanna and Aegis go on ahead, Dne and Masugatan as advance, me in the middle and the last two members as rear guard would be my suggestion. I am not sure Dne is the stealthy type, are you Dne?"

Aegis tosses and turns, not having slept on the ground in a long time. He wraps a hand around his bow shaft for comfort and rolls onto his back, feeling the warmth of sleep finally envelop him. He hopes that watch is going uneventfully and sits bolt upright, moving outside and sitting by the fire for a moment, scanning for Mel.

Dne informs them that he’s not particularly stealthy, but that he’ll cooperate in any way possible.  Naturally, he also informs the party about what he saw.

Aegis stands and stretches, rubbing the sleep from his eyes. He kicks loose dirt onto what's left of the fire and walks to the treeline to relieve himself. When he returns to camp, he grabs his pack and takes his helmet from it, placing it on his head. He replaces his weapon belt and quivers on his person and walks to the mule. He hangs his pack on the mule so it's a not a burden to him in combat.
He eats a ration and grabs his bow from where it was leaning on a tree and trots off after Reanna, joining her.

The sun and activity woke up Darius. A sip of water to remove bad taste from his mouth and a ration to serve as breakfast and he soon was ready to head out. He waved good luck to Aegis and Reanna, preparing to follow the mule instead. "Should've brought a kit," he muttered to himself. "Well, should own one, first."

Masugatan tags along with Reanna, while he munches on whatever is available (some jerky, he hopes).

Aegis continues on the intended path with Reanna. As he walks, he removes his shield and sheaths his throwing axe behind his back. He pulls his fine longbow from his back and nocks an arrow, scanning as far away as he can, watching for movement.

Noticing the movement ahead, Aegis taps Reanna in the shoulder and points to a hiding spot, which he slinks into and virtually disappears.

Aegis melts back into the underbrush, pulling another arrow from his bottomless quiver. He nocks the arrow and smirks, quite proud of his shot at the deer, it appears he's not losing it after all.

In reply to Aegis (msg # 328):

A pair of rough voices can be heard as there is more rustling in the underbrush.

Aegis looks yo his companions and holds two fingers up, signalling that he hears two men. He then uses the same hand to make a chopping motion to signal his intentions.
"Strike fast, try to leave one alive if possible. We can ask him about his friends," he whispers, carefully drawing his bowstring back and aiming in the general direction of the voices. When they emerge he tracks them with his bow, focusing on the man on the left.  "The dead deer could work as a good distraction, considering they don't cut and run when they notice it. When they go to inspect the corpse, strike as one."

Masugatan draws his sword as quietly as he can and smiles.  He shows a lot of surprisingly white teeth.

He often smiles  just before killing somebody.

Two men wearing light scale armor and carrying loaded crossbows burst into the clearing  and seem surprised by the arrow sticking out of it.
They seem more suprised by Masugatan, who was not concealed...

"He didn't kill it! There is an archer around here!"

Both men start to point their weapons at Masugatan!


Basic speed?

OOC : I hope we're not fighting bronn of the blackwater for real, lol. My basic speed is 7.50 btw.

Aegis stands and lets fly again, aiming at the man farthest away from masugatan.

Not so these. One fellow drops to his knees after letting loose a wild bolt that lodges high in a tree,
The other fires his crossbow at the only foe he can see, Masugatan!

OOC. I know it's out of order, just doing it so when masugatan and hopefully Reanna respond u can resolve it all at once.

Masugatan gracefully leaps aside from the incoming bolt.

The man who fired it sprouts both an arrow and a crossbow bolt, and goes down without any more sound than a faint cough of blood. Both men are down.

The area is silent. A econd or too later, the birds resume their calls.

By the time the birds resume singing, Reanna has reloaded the crossbow and heads over to the bodies to check them out.

The men were wearing light scale armor, had cheap shortswords and each has an average crossbow and quiver with just under a dozen bolts. They were also wearing black surcoats with a red stripe on on one side (the reverse side is brown).

"We could take all their gear and stash it with the doe until we return. We could.split the profits between us, but I have a feeling they are gonna need our help with the rest. We should bring the coats as well, they may be some sort of gang colors and will prove how many we've slaim or apprehended. You should grab them bolts, Reanna. I've no need for them, I prefer my long bow."
 
Aegis goes to the doe and drags it to some bushes. He then goes back and strips the men of their surcoats and gear, wrapping the armor and weapons in one and throwing the other over the doe. He pulls some loose foliage over it and stands, brushing his hands off on his pants. He turns and addresses the group again.
"Good job guys. Let's hope the others fall as easily.

In reply to Aegis (msg # 343):

"Yes, though I woulds suggest those with crossbows can make better use of the bolts, and the coats might just be useful for some like Masugatan who are not so good at stealth to get closer to their camp, when we find it. If anyone has skills for a crossbow, but no crossbow, they should take one."

Aegis hooks his bow back to his quiver and cracks his knuckles. He then pulls his shield from his back and straps it to his left arm and grabs a throwing axe. He looks between Reanna and masugatan and smiles, cocking his head in the direction they were initially heading and starts walking towards what they believe is the camp.

OOC: Just to check: We have Aegis, Reanna and Masugatan in the forward group and Melchizidek, Dne, and Darius near the camp. Is that right?
