From his relaxed pose, Nodwin fingers his still flaming staff as he thinks about what goal the Saturnites could currently be working towards. He thinks on what bits of knowledge that he was taught about the dark religions and beliefs during his studies.

In reply to Nodwin Zideqick (msg # 74):

Nodwick takes mild umbrage at the Ymid's suggestion that The Greater Powers- the Gods- would be capricious, but suspects the particular phrasing would describe someone under a divine curse. The ymid being an outsider, might not mean that it percieved this anamoly as being recent... the curse might be an ancient one.

"You infer that a greater power, such as one of the gods, has decided to randomly infuse their power into someone on this plane like a fickle child? Using their prerogative to indiscriminately freeze a person beyond death, but with a semblance of life still remaining, driving their body?"

With his forhead wrinkled in thought, Nodwin shakes his head in disagreement.

"Nay, the true gods do not behave with such arbitrary comportment. They may react to sudden changes in ways we mortals may not understand, but more than that, they make very long term plans, often beyond our ken. This sounds more like what may be some sort of curse, possibly done by an unearthed artifact, by a failed ritual, or as a penalty for someone who challanged one of the gods. Whatever it is, it is not random.

"Let me rest for a while, then we can go take a look and see if we can find an  answer to the mystery."

image of several small humanoids fighting with eachother in an uncoordinated manner, while something vast and shapeless beyond them does nothing. The humanoids age and waste away, are replaced by others that seem to build things white others rip them apart or continue fighting. Eventually they fade away.... and then the vast thing starts to move."

In reply to Ymid (msg # 77):

Clarence e had been trying to ignore the strange conversation for good reason: it was very unsettling. Perhaps this is why the latest images, though unsettling, did not push him over the line, though it was as close as he ever wanted to go. He continued to look for distractions, ostensibly looking for food for his new friend.

"Yes, I admit that the gods don't always interfere in our lives, but that is fine. These are our lives, not theirs. If they constantly used their powers then this entire world would probably not last long, after all there are many gods that hate each other. It is much better for all that those of us that represent our patrons do our best to show the world what our gods means and to encourage following the right ones, not the wrong ones.

Sure there are other creatures that are from higher planes than us that have vast powers and may use those powers capriciously, but they are not gods!

Maybe that is who you are infering about."

"Ya can't.  Well, maybe.  Okay, is like this...  T'e gods, as I ken it, are of this world, or made this world, or are this world, ya know whatever t'e religion preaches, an t'ey all preach different shit, no offense Nodwin, but t'e elder things?  T'e Jaehossi Uēpossi, t'ey from outside t'e world.  Beyond.  Eh... so t'ey get weird.  Not like 'demon talkin backwards' weird, or Ludlow's spell weird, but like people turnin inside out an still livin just fine weird.  Like magic stuff happenin without any magic bein used weird.  Does that make sense?  Probably not."

Jareth rubs his forehead, takes a hit from the flask and stows it.  "Most people ain't able to tell t'e difference between t'e gods an outside powers, or demons or angels  an outside powers.  But t'ey is a difference an it can be profound, like 'an we can't kill this thing' type of serious.  But mostly the difference is motivation.  Evil gods an demons bring harm cause t'ey are evil an doing evil is what t'ey do.  Right?  But t'e elder powers... t'ey ain't got t'e same motivation.  T'e do shit an it can be good or bad for us, an t'ey ain't likely to even notice.  Like whatever happens here is a side effect of whatever t'ey doing.  Well, hang that, except for t'e ones that is tryin to break in an wreck shit here cause t'ey are hungry or something.  Or want to make everything in flowers, or whatever."

He looks as if he's about to haul out the flask again, but doesn't.

"Basically t'e outer things is crazy pants as far as we concerned.  For your level of needin to figure it out?  Just treat 'em like gods, give 'em deference or disgust or distance as needed an not worry about it.  Worryin too much leads to madness an excessive drinkin."

"Hmm.  How much does one of those flasks cost, and what do you keep in it?" Mario shakes his head sharply again, still glancing suddenly in different directions at the slightest sound or movement.

"This is worse than trying to make sense of those conundrums the Brothers used to argue over.  Stuff like a man who always lies, and says he's lying.  Things that aren't either gods or demons, but the only real way to tell 'em is whether what they're doing makes sense.  That looks to require a bit too much of looking at what they're doing for comfort."

"I am restored, and interested in the anamoly" disturbing image of four dimensional diagram of colored lines moving and intersecting in a way that doesn't seem right. Multiple lines of red intersect the figure, which is full of something pale bluish and gelatinous. Instead of the red lines tinting the interior color, or causing it to leak out, it instead becomes more intensely blue, and the outlying figure now has reddish spines.
