Re: Near the bone gate

Overhearing the need for a strong man, the young man turned his attention to the people with the cart.
"Pardon me, but would you need some assistance? My name is Leroy, and I'm strong enough for a silver piece.. I'm a mercenary, but I can play porter for you, if you need."

"Fortunately for you, not the stuff we're out to buy.  Nodwin sometimes creates food, but usually someone goes out and buys some -- I don't know that any of us can cook at all.

"Oh, where are my manners.  I'm Mario Crowfoot.  I'm on my way to being the best archer alive."
Mario sticks out his hand.  "This is Benito Drake, and his cousin Anita Drake.  He's an artisan and merchant, she's, um, in security."

Re: Near the bone gate

In reply to Benito Drake (msg # 989):

Passing through town with a normal conveyance, and not a bound prisoner is easy, and you are able to arrive and collect the items without incident, and return them to the neighborhood you are establishing your base in.

the old pawnshop is occupied by Jareth, and most of the row houses on that block, overhanging the street collapse (it covers the backyard of that row, and the west and south sides of the block. A very large ogre is ar work piling rubble into the hole. it will probably become a market square or a greenspace...

The row of houses facing the pawnshop are vacant, as are those on the eastward side of the collapse, and those facing them on the eastern side of that street.  One of those (same street as pawnshop, one block to the east) is a useable workplace, and is currently vacant. your cost of living will be involved in making it into a functional business and living space.

Adding points to the perk Base will increase the effective value of the property; at the moment a base perk gives you Status-2 squalor, each point raises it one status level, and eliminates part of your CoL.

In reply to Narrator (msg # 990):

Benito will look for a space to start setting up. With no spare points just now, he will have to wait before putting points into the base perk. But he will probably get out his carpentry and stone masonry kits first.

Re: Near the bone gate

With Benito safely at work, Mario heads back out with the donkey and cart to shop for repair materials and provisions.

He'll start in the artisan district to pick up the lead ingot and copper wire, then get boar tusks to make up double the required length (in case the tusks are too thin or too curved), pig heart, beef arteries (several feet, since quantity wasn't specified), and beef livers with gallbladders (showing the list if needed to verify the slightly odd request) from a butcher before collecting a good sized wheel of blue cheese and a pot of fish broth on the way back home.

Once done with the shopping (probably about an hour), he'll check in with Benito to see if the cart is still needed to get building materials.

OOC: Mario has no merchant related skills (will use defaults from IQ 11 if needed), but does have the Honest Face perk.

Re: Near the bone gate

After helping unload the goods, Leroy takes stock of the neighborhood, and the urban blight.
"Sacre bleu, man! What's happened to the street?"
The warrior stepped back and surveyed the scene...
"What are your plans with all of this? It certainly looks like your work, is cut out for you!"
[Private to GM: if Leroy needs to join up with the dismal tower group, so we can have the fight scene, thus, breaking the ice with that part of the group, it could be easily contrived i'm sure. i saw a good opportunity within his character to meet mario and the others, by helping them, first..]

Re: Near the bone gate

In reply to Mario Crowfoot (msg # 992):
The most expensive item on the list is the copper wire, costing $50. The total of the rest of the items is $39, with $20 of that being the boar's tusks and pig teeth.

A few of the houses on the eastern edge of the pit look to be leaning a little, as the area around their foundations has slid a little. They do not appear to be at risk of collapsing, but just seem a little irregular, and the doors may need to be rehung.

"Oh!  I guess I should have warned you, Leroy.  The main reason we were able to occupy this block of houses is because there was a street collapse here not too long ago.  Something about a spell gone wrong, I heard.

"Hmm, we should probably see if someone has a spell that can level up those houses without just dropping them into the pit."

"Wow! There goes the neighborhood...literally,eh?"
Leroy looked at the leaning structures, Mario mentioned.
"Magic can fix most anything. Some horsepower, ropes, and pulleys to right the lean-age...While the foundation is earth-to-stoned, would probably do the trick."
