In reply to Clarence Montague (msg # 523):

By which route are you returning? Something that large would doubtless have trouble with the lid on the ladder down...

Re: Near the bone gate

"Wasn't there a ladder just down that way?"  Mario points with a gesture, toward the exit to the main tunnel, then left.  "We had too much fun getting a barrel up there, and this body won't be much easier, but it's close, and we've got rope."

"I'm inclined to prefer the flank, unless there's a path to a quick kill from the eating end, like an arrow through the roof of the mouth.  The Brothers claimed you could kill a dragon that way, though I'm not as confident in their wisdom as I used to be."

"Wait.  Jareth, did you mean we should try to meet it at the Bone Gate?  Because otherwise, if it can come through, it could go almost anywhere down here or up into the city before we can dispose of this body and come back."

Considering that we're spitting distance from the "cult's barracks" rooms and the circular staircase up, I figured we were already heading that way, since it's shorter?

You get to the spiral staircase you had removed the evil runes from. The stench above is stronger, but not yet enough to really affect anyone.

"Smells like it's already started through the Gate.  We best step it up."

With that, Mario starts up the stairs, light stone still glowing at the upper nock of his bow.  He pauses just below the top, extending his bow upward to see what the light reveals.

The small room at the top of the stairs is clear. The odor beyond the metal fronted door is stronger.

Mario raises his voice, hoping to be heard below.

"It's not here yet, but I think it's close.  Don't come up unless you're ready to fight."

He steps toward the metal cased door to check the condition of the lock (with little illusion that it will matter if the worm wants to come through).

Jocelyn, if the door opens inwards, you might want to hold off a moment.

"Might depend on how fast it is, but if it isn't trying to come through this door, we might be able to chop into its flank.  Anyone got poison?  Anyone know what might work on a worm from another world?"
