The elder thing pauses to examine its device.
"Interesting. There is a localized summoning of a servitor of a familiar nature in progress. Apparently a number of extraplanar entities along with the humans invoking have been sacrificed.  I would very much inclined to view the proceedings, but I need to rest."

"Rest first.

"'Localized summoning'?  And sacrificing humans and whatever?  I don't like the sound of that, but we're probably not equipped to deal with it.  Especially with both you and Jareth just about to fall over."

Jocelyn, Nodwin one o' ya like hie off an alert t'e guards once we're topside?"

Re: Near the bone gate

In reply to Jareth Mooncalled (msg # 603):

"It is fairly proximate, perhaps within this edifice, but not close enough to encounter without exertion.... (uncertain speculation about measuring tangible distances within a three dimensional vs a five dimensional space... the only reasonable standards of measurement are not found on this plane, and it uses platinum-iridium {secondary image of the color orange} and proper notation... nothing proximate adheres to standard... drat where do I keep that conversion application??)... it is a threshold shift indicator alarm ( brief thaumaturgical diagram, with numerous moving parts, including some usually seen as mathematical constants) and not a precision location system."

Anyone with Thaumatology as a skill needs to make a fright check, and also has a searing headache. Crit successes may grant a perk that grants a bonus on certain rolls.

[Private to GM: Rolled 11, Fright check 12, so made it. Unfortunately not critically!]

Re: Near the bone gate

"The first part of that made some sense.  It's close, but not right next door, so to speak.  Even so, I don't think we can do anything with it without resting, and if it's like most magic it'll be all over by then.  Let's go home and see if anyone has burned our block down."

Mario is conspicuously un-bothered by the diagrams and description of the measurement method.

In reply to Jareth Mooncalled (msg # 612):

You are pretty sure the Ymid magically augmented an innate quasi-magical or psionic power, and that it wasn't quite a spell by itself, but something like a few pieces of interdependent meta spells cast to modify a power.

I take it was a Fright Check (that gives a headache regardless of success if have Thaumatology due to understanding what some of the numbers/symbols are thus giving the Ymid a foothold into your tasty brain bits) followed by a Thaumatology to actually understand the numbers/symbology...

Re: Near the bone gate

In reply to Jocelyn Lemru (msg # 615):

The device seems to have a combination of the spells Alarm and Link tied into a native power that appears not to be limited to the proximate plane of existence, the modifiers of which appear to involve things like spell failure, summoning spells, and conditions of presence that are not magically described, but involve something other.

In reply to Clarence Montague (msg # 617):

The Ymid can passively and actively detect weird things like catastrophic spell failure, weirdness magnets, and elder thig involvement; the tablet (among other functions) can refine this sense as a filter to specific conditions.

In any case, you head upstairs, schlepping the demon corpse and the still wounded Alaric.
