In Pursuit of the Eye

Yeoman Charra closes the porticullus behind you, the torches from her halberdiers the
only source of light for now, except for Melchizidek's glow.  You are in the undercity
of Northport, which is begining to look older than you might have thought.
    The corridor you are in is about four yards wide and high, the walls veering from
true at man-height to form a steep arch, the arch forming above a small ledge directly
over a course of decorated glazed brick. The flooring is made of smooth pavers, and a gutter about half a foot deep runs along either side of the flooring.

  Your guide is Karlow, an orcish employee of the municipality, and your group
 consists of the following adventurers, henchmen and hirelings:
 Ximmiv, founder of the expedition, holy warrior of Minerva;
 Melchizidek, Healer priest of Helios;
 Sorsha, Shadow elf Sorceress, accompanied by her cousin
    Mischa, half elven cabinetmaker and knife wielder and by
    Lifty dungeon porter.
 Kebrel Hoart, spear bearing warrior and headman of a village of followers;
     Alvin Destin Perdu, heavily armored squire,
     Brodak, Axe wielding Orcish brute,
     Jocelyn Lemru, apprentice wizard,
     Mellaril, woods elf archer, and
     Hugin Sinjersen, Dwarf artificer.

Re: In Pursuit of the Eye

Plodding along through this place, there wasn't much to say, it was dark and crowded and made Kebrel feel a little less than comfortable.

"Shields, to the front!" he grunted a the group before turning to his knightly squire and offering him a place to cover the rear. "You, stay at the back and make sure we don't get murdered from behind" he said, chuckling under his breath at the double insult - firstly, his covering the rear and secondly that he has to watch the girls all the way along the trip (OOC: didn't occur to him that it might make him worse at his job).

"Melaril, go and play with some shadows, anyone comes close... put a knife through them. Rest of you stay close," he finished before tonguing his dry mouth and wishing he'd packed a spare wineskin.

Re: In Pursuit of the Eye

An audiable growl emanated from Kebral's mouth. He despised being questioned, especially so when he was infront of other people.

"You wanna be responsible when these girls get knifed in the back? Get to the back now and make sure none of us take a f*cking blade in our spine. Protectin' is the most honourable of activities and if you can't see that then you got no business here!" he berated the squire through gritted teeth. Before stepping forward and pushing the man to the back.

Conflicts like this were just part of the man's style of leadership. He knew it grated against the boy's pride, but he had to learn his place, his position his role and the role of the warrior in a group of people. "You question me again, boy, and i'll knock you bloody" he threatened, all too willing to follow through.

Just his style, I guess this 'kind of talk' is relatively common in their group. I suppose the group has been together enough to know that this is Kebrel's style of command, aggressive, pushy, angry and threatening... all too willing to knock somebody about to punish/etc  but I think that most people will realise also that he will make sure that his companions are safe and not going to be screwed over

Sorsha just rolls her eyes as Kebrel dresses down the squire. Not that she cared one way or the other but she did like the idea of a warrior behind her, she didn't want anyone sneaking up behind her.

Re: In Pursuit of the Eye

Melchizedek just does his best to not get in anybodies way. This was his first expedition and he was hiding it poorly with his body language. He felt safer with someone like Mr. Hoart around.

Mel simply grins uncomfortably at the exchange between Hoart and his squire, just glad that he was not on the receiving end.

In response to Karlow the priest shrugs and looks around for someone to answer. "That part was unclear to me. I assume that our good Ximmiv has some sense of where he wants to go."

"We are looking for cult activity. I don't know
what lives here, but their involvement is probably only a few months old.
I would suspect they once had a regular place of worship before the cataclysm,
so perhaps under the temple district, so we could start there."

Re: In Pursuit of the Eye

"Come on then, lets get moving" Kebrel said as he lightly bumped the person infront of him to push them into a forward motion (OOC: this is very lightly, ushering them to move on, if it needs a roll i'll do it)

The man scoffed under his breath, perhaps a little loudly to actually be under his breath, at the notion that people didn't know where they were going. As the group moved into a trot he spoke again "Father always told me that when in doubt go left... to many people trying to be right in the world".

It was wisdom of a sorts, but his father had also been a bastard. Kebrel had thought on the matter once or twice in his life and come to the conclusion that he was happy to be a better man in comparsion; Hoart spat on the ground at the thoughts and continued.

"Glad he's back to the  mud now" he said to nobody in particular.

Re: In Pursuit of the Eye

"Ah F$*£!, this is going to be a damn boat load of fun" came the exclamation with a hint of resignation. Kebrel didn't let people slow down to decide, it would be a long long trip if they had to decide every corridor and discuss each move they made. The man just kept walking, aiming for the corridor infront.

"Did we arrange for a map to be made as we go? If not we should at least place a marker of some sort to find our way back."

Melchizedek's eyes rest on Karlow as he suggests an alternative method of finding their way back. His concern for the event that Karlow should fall is evident.

Re: In Pursuit of the Eye

Kebrel wondered what exactly Karlow said, scraping the walls to remove marks... that sounded like something that the group did not want to confront. He was snapped up from his thoughts at the delay that was happening around them all, never a patient man, Kebrel suggested.

"Can't one of the wizards do it? You lot have all kinds of fancy spells for everything and nothing, surely something can come in useful here?" He looked to the folk in the group with a glimmer of hope in his eye, but not much else. His rough-cut appearance often didn't betray the smoother or softer feelings that he might, and did regularly, feel.
