In His Lordship's Service

After being sent to see Arradia, and paying $20 for a clean spell, (all person and
possessions spotless) you go to aee the guildmaster, regarding the Baron.

Making his way to the Guild Masters offices Zarrat pauses at its threshold, absently smooths the crease of his jacket and enters. Glancing about the room to get his bearings.

In reply to Zarrat (msg # 2):

Rigo's office is a rambling but cramped affair, the walls are hung with weapons and
trophies, and maps of all varieties, and several of his inner circle loiter on
mismatched couches and chairs. A heaviset half elf in chainmail brings in a tray of
freshly baked sweet rolls and a flagon of ale.

In reply to Zarrat (msg # 4):

The guildmaster steps in, joking with a thug, tattoed with an axe, who parts ways with a
Slap on his back, and a lingering look at the half elven woman with the rolls.
Rigo takes a roll off of the tray and bites down into it, missing the unhappy look she
casts at his departing companion. Rigo pulls another roll off of the platter and makes a
circular gesture. Immediately, the lounging adventurers rise from their seats and snatch up the pastry, leaving two. The woman offers you one and takes the other.

"Morgan these are really good! Now, Zarrat. We have regular dealings with
Mabinota, he is even a ranking member of the guild, and gets a point on the arena take.
His advisors, though, particularly the plutocrats, are problematic. They, as a group,
don't like us, as a group, and try everything they can to tax us. This isn't bearable,
and they have enough diviners on deck as to make subtle but direct action highly
dangerous in that it would be traceable, so we can't go that route.
Camilla tells me you are from a courtly family, old imperial stock living in
Valdassya. Now, I am given to understand that Your homeland is one of the few places
this side of the southern sea where coffee beans grow. Trade in the beans is becoming
competitive, desirable even.
One of the plutocrats has more than a fondness for the beverage, and the trade.
If he were to move against Baron Mabinota's interests, say to invest in an alternative
route for trade, or to push for a monopoly, it would go poorly for him, and well for
us."

Thanking the Elfmaid, Zarrat accepts the offered pastry, eating it when possible. He listens intently to Guildmaster Bleak overview of a situation the Guild is experiencing, absorbing the details and nodding at the direction it's taking. Aware of his family’s holdings and the various Trade products His Grandpater controls; which if approached with due difference and tact can benefit Guild, House and Baron Mabinota, in many ways.
Indeed Guildmaster, One surmise considering a monopoly would cause considerable rifts with existing or perspective associate’s One can but presume you require Us to approach this plutocrat seeking a means to expand trade in this area. In the possibility that it would prompting them to overstep himself with the perception of gaining an Alternate Producer. pausing he considers allowing for possible reply before continuing with his thoughts If I may Guildmaster, what degree of discrediting would you envisage suitable, for this purpose, minor inconvenience; medium embarrassment; thorough discrediting and subsequent dismissal or treasonable pending imprisonment or death; as each may have adverse long-term repercussions for the Guild.  Would it be possible to ascertain a yearly tonnage approximation that would be sufficient for this outcome.

As he waited the Guildmasters consideration, Zarrat resisted the impulse to shift; which he found during his apprenticeship resulted in an immediate disciplinary backlash.

The guildmaster, who seems to have a dozen or more members of his "inner circle" turns
up the corners if his mouth slightly.
"A permanent solution was attempted previously, turned into a case of 'the
devil you know' we want him inconvenienced and embarrassed; we want to downgrade his
Value without having him replaced by another of his order."

Morgan waves you to follow her to her quartes. She explains as you go.
"Not privy to the culinary secrets of my ancesors, I have been learing through
trial and error how to make elven rations with the Essental Food spell.
The flavor profile was off, and Hallic was one of my test subjects. He told me mine
tasted better than other elves, but I think he was trying to sample something else of
mine."

Unlocking her door with a key and a word, she takes a piece of parchment, writes a quick note on it, and uses it to wrap several small cakes, before tying it with a ribbon.
"Bring him this."

Before leaving the Guild Zarrat ensures the paper wrapped parcel of pastries on the tray
is covered by a cloth to prevent dust and such falling on the cakes. Weaving his way through
the artisanal district toward the docks, he enquires about any vessels that regularly visit
the baron's Manse or if there are any that could ferry him to it.
