[Private to GM: Does Hitomi know a good place to have the ring evaluated?  We establised way back that she knew a couple of good fences, but she wants someone who could, and would, tell her if the ring is magical and not immediately claim it.

Looks like it might not be her day for assessing value on her own, but she might well know where to deal with the ring.

Gigi peek her tiny head around the corner, still wary of the trio. "My name is Gigi , I am just looking for my cousin, Lulu."

"She is about my size and i think she might be trapped in a bottle or a jar somewhere." Gigi try create an illusion of Lulu, hoping that the strangers might recognize her.

You have all moved out of the undercroft, and passed the night uneventfully. Gorgath is
 nearly healed, his face a bit raw where he pulled off the bandages. Hitomi looks luxuriously rested, and has a glow of satisfaction about her. Syrik has a bit of a
cough and could maybe do to rest a little. Stark had a shave and a wash, but his armor
Seems to have been etched by the exposure to slorn spit, and looks like runes in some
language.
  Currently in the small conference room above guild main hall, away from those looking
 for gruel, although Gorgath has had a few bowls already.

The place looks a lot less ostentatious than the large suite of rooms Camilla uses,
and for some reason the door won't close completely. You can all fit, although gorgath had to stoop to get in the door.

"I will ask around then and see what I can do after I finish the current job.  We girls have to stick together - this place won't get any prettier if we leave it to these guys." she says indicating the males with her.

Hitomi reaches into a pouch with one silk clad hand and motions to the pixie with her other to come close.

"What do you make of this?" she says softly  "We need to make our fair split, but this might be more than just a bauble.""

"I can tell whether it is magical or not if that what you want to know, if it is magical then it will take a little longer for me analyse it and find out more information." Gigi  touches the buable.

OOC:  Yup, Detect Magic is the spell.  Mage Sight would also work to tell you if anything else we had on us was magical.  Analyze Magic would be used to figure out just what the magic was, and might take several iterations to learn everything.

ooc : not detect magic, I mean the innate magic detection that come with magery 0. It say Gm roll sense once when I first see it and once when I touch it. Only detect permanent magic item. That what I am trying to do.

Gigi flies closer to the ring, and is able to faintly percieve magical emenations.
She then buzzes over other items, and dectects nothing, except from the shortsword,
which also appears to be magical.

Gigi looks up to Syrik "A spell archer? I always wanted to be a spell archer, but my size is a pretty big disadvantage when using weapons. We pixie need poison or spell to really cause any damage when using weapons. Maybe i can get you some poison for the arrow? Can you show me spell archery sometime?" She sound excited about her new mage friend.

"Do either of you have the knack of healing?"

"I cant heal, that Lulu's mastery. I am a mage and she a cleric" Gigi sound sad talking about Lulu.

Hitomi herds them out the door and goes to sell as discussed and to see if the guild has a healer available.

Danos observes the Leprechaun's approach of the mysterious hooded figure Hitomi, and sees that she is a likely candidate to offer employment. He approaches and introduces himself.

"Excuse me, my name is Danos and if you're looking to assemble a team for an expedition I believe my skills may be of some use. I am a decent shot with a bow and my blade is keen. And I can keep a sharp eye out for any traps that might have been put in place to protect... whatever you might be in search of."

Danos is a mountain elf, though he keeps his head shaved so that its blue colour doesn't draw too much attention. He wears leather boots and gloves, and carries a bow and a rapier.

both warriors. You also note that almost all of the party are wearing climbing
harnesses.

"Are we ready to go yet?" Gigi look little excited.

"If you'll have me, I'd like to say that I'm an expert climber. I am a little short on the specialty climbing gear that you all look like you have, but I have plenty of rope and grappling hook."

Hitomi looks the elf over, then turns to her male companions.  "What do you think?  We needed a trustworthy seeker and a healer this time around ..." here she indicates the new ladies with a twitch of her head"... so I had no issue recruiting them, but we have an archer and porters are working for hire.  This one, he is guild, and will get a full share if we take him, which means all of you get less. "

But I do have skills of deception and trickery, as well as certain technical knowledge, that might be of use when setting off into the unknown."

Hitomi turned to her companions.  "Time to go people - lets get rich!"

"Then I shall hope you return from your current adventure healthy and prosperous, but not so much so that you won't need my help. I suspect you will be able to find me at the guild upon your return."

With that, Danos bows to Hitomi and heads out in search of a drink, and maybe a purse with loose drawstrings.

All together, you head through the undercroft, and out of the guild.  Your work crew is in the
 process of clearing stones from the far side of the cave, and have not yet completed the ramp, but they do have ropes strung down each set of slopes, and accross as well.

Hitomi goes over to speak with the Dwarf in charge of the work crew.  In a clear voice she says "Excellent progress.  When do you expect to complete the ramp?"

After receiving the Dwarf's answer Hitomi rejoins her companions.

Gorgath looks at the small... thing and shrugs.

Gorgath trudges forward with his pack now bulging from his recent purchases.

Gigi sits on the ogre's shoulder and takes a small pebble out of her pouch, it is glowing brighter than torchlight, the light is about as bright as day light.. "Hitomi, i made a few of these glowing rocks yesterday, maybe you can find a use for them?"

"Those could be very handy indeed" Hitomi said raising a hand in front of her eyes "but could you put it away for now?" After blinking a few times she continued.  "How do they work?  Are they always that bright or can you control it? How long do they last?"

Gigi return the rock to her pouch, "No i cant really control the brightness, they will last at least for another day but i can cancel the spell early if need be. Do you want to have one in your pocket or give it to someone in case we need to use them?"

"If you are offering I will take one - better to have and not need.  Shame they can't be stopped and restarted though.  That could be really handy."

Descending into the cave and scaling the opposite side is far easier with the ropes,
annnn d Aethelbert makes sure to be between two people, ahead of tbe ogre during his
acent.
  Belgar and the kobolds have made the passage a little wider, and look to be using the rubble to build the ramp. You notice the dwarf frowning at tbe state of the ceiling
and muttering about structural problems.

Gigi took the pebble out again "You can alway wrap them in leather or cloth to stop it." She fly over and put the stone in her hand before going back to sit on the ogre's shoulder.

Gorgath pulls out his oil and refills his helmet lamp. Digging through his pack, he pulls out his flint and steel and after a few strikes, lights the lamp.

As you procede up the rubble strewn corridor, a foul stench assaults your nostrils, and
wet rustling sounds can be heard.

Aoife summoned a large constrictor snake to her aid, then created a swarm of fireflies to light her path.

"Doo ya sae enethaen?" she whispered to the snake.

     I'm imagining this like Groot from Guardians of the Galaxy.

Some largish compound eyes glitter in the firefly light. The serpent notes a few
 vaguely warm bodies.

"Smell that?  We are close to where we fought the slorn, and that stench and sound says the scavenger worms still have work to do.  Be careful though, slorn are not picky eaters either.  Priestess, Wizard, with me please and lets go take a look to be sure.  I will send Gigi back to tell you what we find, but after 5 minutes come on ahead regardless."

Hitomi takes the light stone given her and places it in her mouth.  With the stone held in her tongue her grin is disturbing but the light is reduced to a less blinding level as she leads them forward to identify the creatures ahead.

Slimy, and modestly grown, these multilegged pale green worms with oozing tendrils
about the mouth parts are about a yard long, and thick as a man's arm.
Seceral dart behind rocks, but one marches past you until it gets near Stark, then
rises up on several pairs of stubby back legs, and wriggles its tentacles at him.

Hitomi palms her face and shakes her head at the worm's obvious preference for Stark.  Clutching the light stone in her closed fist she remarks  "These ones seem to be well fed, though clearly they can not get enough of Stark.  I don't think they will bother most of us.  Lets keep moving."  Replacing the stone she continues on until she can spot the pit where the dead thief was found.

As you proceed several dizen yards hrough the secondary cavres, and into the corridor,
the source of the smell is quite apparent; a half eaten, charred, giant, eightlegged
 lizard lies here, crawling with rats and smaller scavenger worms. Ahead is an
intersection to the right, and down the slope beyond the slorn's remains is a metal
grste set in the floir.

"Up ahead, past the grate, there is a pit, a passage down to where we suspect an ancient library lies.  That is our target."

"Should I scout ahead? I can go invisible." Gigi is still staying a few pace behind.

Beyond the Charred remains of the first Slorn, the corridor continues to slope mildly up
towards another rotting slorn corpse, and then continues on toward a massive porticullis and
also turns toward the right.
  just before the second slorn body, the right hand side of the wall has an opening with a
stiff breeze coming up outr of it, and a bit of bones and bits on the paving in front of it.

Hitomi takes the stone out of her mouth and ties it to the end of her spider silk cord and then lowers it down slowly so she can see the sides she would climb on and learn what is at the bottom.

OOC: When you say smooth, just how smooth?  Are the walls cut stone in distinct blocks?  Is the tackle block still here?

Gigi is glad that she dont need to carry around a large coil of rope.

"Be careful - I can't get down to help you all that quickly.   First things we need to know is how far down the bottom is, or if there are any side passages I could not see."

The block and tackle rig is still present, the walls are made out of cut stone blocks,
but are fairly smooth, possibly scaleable at no great penalty, and for the intial partof the descent you could see no side passage, at least for twenty yards.

Gigi keep going and till she finds the bottom of this hole.

A good distance down, thirty yards or so, you see some small vent holes, a few feet
 square. The well ends another thirty yards down, a few dozen arrows are sunk into
 the walls for the last ten yards. There are four large archways at ground level,
and you can see a large boulder tied up with fine rope.

Gigi returns to the top. "It is about 60 yards to the bottom. It doesn't seem like there any thing down there but a few arrows, should I go get the other now?" Gigi says while she is still invisible.

The majority of the group were waiting just before the body of the burnt slorn;
Hitomi, Gigi, and Aoife were by the entrance to the well, Hitomi lowereing silk rope and Gigi flying down unseen, with Aoife on deck in case of medical emergency.
Nothing larger thana rat has come from the passage between the two slorn.

OOC:  Ahh, I thought the rest moved forward when we determined it was just small worms and such.  My bad.

Stepping past the cadre of kobolds, Syrik leans into Hitomi, creaking a little in his

She sent the snake around the corner to see if it could see anything in the darkness.

Translation: Do we know of anything that would not have a heat signature so as to be visible by Infravision (which the snake has)?

"The living are bad enough down here, but I have encountered no undead."

OOC:  I don't think reptiles and insects, being cold blooded, will appear significantly different than their surroundings on infravision.  Snakes hunt warm blooded prey with their heat pits as far as I know.

Gorgath shuffles forward and drops an immense length of rope on the ground.

"Lots of rope."

OOC: Since I'm guessing we're moving forward as if everyone is present.  170 yards of 3/4" rope.

Hitomi rigs Gorgath's heavy rope over the block and tackle, then hands the rope to him saying "Put your weight and then some on it, make sure it will hold."

The snake reports seeing nothing to Aoife, and the block and tackle supports Gorgath's
Armored weight.

After a few hard pulls, Gorgath nods to hitomi, "No problem."

As the group get ready for the decend, Gigi fly back down to check the vent hole while she is invisible.

Once she was sure the rope was secure Hitomi began giving instructions.  "Gigi and Gorgath first, Stark, Syrik and I will be on the rope.  Aoife and Aethelbert next, then Stark.  You stout fellows" she said looking at the kobold porters, "keep a sharp eye out until Stark is down, then you follow.  Syrik last and then I will follow.  If there is a problem with the rope I will be in the least trouble.  If I am missing something or you have a different idea now is the time."

The vent spaces are about two feet in diameter, and set with metal grilles.
There are several sets of them, about forty feet apart, each set being of four
 evenly spaced grilles.

Ooc: in addition to a tug of war settup to lower Gorgath, something needs to be
done to keep the rope from following you after the climb... or during.

Gigi slips between the bar and continue her exploration.

 Gigi slips beteen the bars of the grate, and finds herself in a sloped shaftway, about a yard high
And a yard wide, that continues past her line of sight. There is a steady draft in from the grate,
 heading toward the other end of the tunnel.

OOC: Would it just be easier to have Gorgath lower himself down? If the drop is 60 yards, we have 170 yards of rope, enough for down and back up.

Gorgath attached the rope to the harness he was wearing. Once he was sure it was firmly attached, he moved closer to the edge.

The ogre looked into the well, "No... Problem."

Gigi gave up on her exploration plan and go down to the bottom to watch for any sign of danger.

OOC:  I am not personally an expert climber but I understand a bit about belaying with a pully and such.  What I was getting at was a controlled descent via belaying so that those who are not climbers don't have to rope down, they can work down on the stones with their weight taken in part by the belayers.  Belaying by its nature involves the use of a fail safe friction stop.  Sorry for my imprecision.

The well is wide enough to permit Gorgath to decend without contacting the
walls, and the strong air current causes him to slowly rotate.
Most of the walls are unremarkable, and made of cobble sized stones.  About
Forty feet down you notice small metal grates, about two feet accross.

A steady breeze blows from the archways below... you settle to the ground, and notice a good number of arrows sunk into the wall.

The leprechaun made her way down as well. She motioned for the snake to follow.

If it's a problem for the snake, I'll dismiss and resummon him at the bottom.

The snake coils its way slowly down the taut line.

Gigi drops one of her glowing rock in the center of the floor to light up the landing, she also hold up the other rock which look like it is floating in mid air.

Hitomi maintains tension on the Rope until it is possible to pull it back and send Aethelbert down.

Once safely on the ground, Gorgath does a small circle and inspects his surroundings before tying off the rope.

Aethelbert makes his way down ka bit jerkily, and arrives on solid ground with an expression of relief.

Once Aelthelbert is safely down, Hitomi gives her surroundings a visual once over for threats then gets ready to send Stark down.  "OK Stark, your turn.  Try not to find something hungry on the way down please."

As Stark makes his descent, followed by Syrik, hitomi notes that the large
Boulder is tied with two separate pieces of silken rope, one end many yards
long, and ending in a loop, the other about thirty feet long and cut with

The three kobold make their way down safely.

Hitomi secures the rope to the pulley above then makes her way down, looking all the while for ways to improve their route back up should it be needed.

When she gets to the bottom and sees the state of the silk ropes pauses for a moment, picks up the cut end, then says "Don't go too far, I want to check this out.".  She then climbs back up pulling the rope behind her to see where in the shaft it was cut.

One of the arrows fired up from below has a strand of silk dangling from it.
The boulder looks like it may have been a counterweight pulled down by the
dead thief for a rapid ascent.

Hitomi returns to the group, reporting her findings.

"We have four ways to go here.  I am liking the north but I will check each one for tracks in the dust.  What do your skills tell you Gigi?  Can you sense the library?"

While she waits for an answer Hitomi puts her glow stone back between her teeth and examines each corridor for signs of passage.

Hitomi leads the way forward up the north corridor.

Aoife followed a few yards behind. Her snake slithered at her feet. The cloud of fireflies illuminated the area by following just above her head.

I give a little salute. "I have it covered."

I step aside and turn so I'm facing the south.  Keeping an eye on the passages we're not taking until everyone is through the north pass.

OOC: Is the four-way intersection lit from the opening above or are we already leaving a light source behind?  If we don't already have one, I'll make one.

Hitomi nods to Gorgath and returns his grin, a hint of the light from the glow stone in her mouth escaping.  Taking the stone in her hand between thumb and index finger she holds up the other three fingers, then lowers them down one at a time, tossing the stone down hallway on three.

Gigi saw Gorgath prepare to rush in so she Haste 3 on Gorgath.

The glowstone tossed by Hitomi reveals a man-size long nosed green creature
With larhe black eyes, wearing leather armor and carrying a bow.
As the light bounces near, it curses and covers its eyes.

Gorgath had begun moving down the hall, his polearm poised in front of him to ward off any arrows then blinked several times in surprise at the troll.

 Seeing the troll, Gigi begin casting fireball.

The troll is struck in the arm by Stark's flail, which shatters it,
despite an attempt to parrythe blow with his long knife.
He is then bisected by Gorgath, and his leg and other arm severed.
Still, he twitches, even though his eyes are rolled back

Hitomi drops from her perch and moves to pick up the glow stone she earlier tossed.  "Good quick work gentlemen.  We need to keep moving, probably more coming."

OOC:  What can we see of the hallway the troll was found in?

Still watching the exits to the rear of the party, I shout in response to the sudden lull.

"What was it?  Did it eat Stark?"

"Troll - more coming most likely."

Seeing the troll hacked to bit , Gigi just throw the fireball down the main hall at nothing in particular. She watch if the light from the fireball show something interesting.

Giving an approving nod to Gorgath, I step near the troll to see if it's pieces are still twitching.

OOC: Does the side hallway continue or is it blocked?  The map seems to indicate blockage.

Stark and Gorgath stand over the remains of the troll, partially blocking the other's view. They are in a chamber about five yards wide and ten yards long, with openings immediately to either side, about two and a half yards wide, and two archways at the far end of the room.

You can hear the ringing of a bell off in the distance, and faint grumbling noises.

The dead troll was about a span under two yards, long armed and stocky, with sharp teeth and a long nose. his armor is an odd type of leather, and he had a long knife, a black bow and a
quiver of arrows.

As soon as the kobolds are clear, I'll move down the north hallway to the turn, watching toward the entrance.  If everyone decides to enter it, I'll step in so I don't have the unexplored path to the north at my back.

I look back at Aethelbert, not exactly sure what all he just said.


"Can we get some light over here?"

I turn around and squint into the darkness through the North hallway.

Aoife jogged to catch up. She directed the swarm of fireflies to spread out over the area indicated by Johan.

"Haos thet, boyo?" she said.

The main northward corridor carries further, and appears to open toward the left.
  Arrows fly through the fireflies,as Stark swings his lamp to the side and
Three of them will strike stark unless blocked.

I block the first one and dodge the third.

"We're under attack!"

I turn and crouch so my shield is aimed in the direction the arrows came from.

Gorgoth moves up and past Stark, his polearm held in front of him.

Gigi keep watch on the main hall as the other deal with the enemies.

Occ: to Stark, which north hallway were you looking toward?

OOC:  Hitomi's action works either way - whichever hallway does not have arrows coming down it.

OOC: According to the map, the troll body is at an intersection.  I was standing over the troll peering down the passage on my right which leads north.

However, if it better maintains flow, I could've just as easily walked back to the main corridor and got shot there.  I'm flexible.

Revised; the arrows flying at Stark are from the narrow north corridor
At the side intersection. Arrows ate also flying toward Aethelbert, Daphne,
Syrik, and Hitomi from the northen end of the main corridor.

Turning to see where the arrows are coming from, crouching a bit more than normal, and if I can't immediately see an adversary, I snap back around to face the entrance.

To the Kobolds next to me: "Take cover little ones!"

The arrows are flying towards Syrik and co. are from north of the party,
beyond the light sources.  The kobolds duck and cover, except for one, who
slinks against the wall and starts advancing.

OOC:  Apologies for my delays.  Hitomi's action to try and get behind the archers shooting at Stark has to be retconned out I guess as arrows are coming from both hallways.  Can Hitomi actually see the archers doing the shooting?  Was she already in the main hallway when they started shooting or just coming out of dead troll hallway?

[Private to GM: Also, does Hitomi know if trolls can see in the dark / low light as well as Hitomi or better than her?]

OOC: Did I take damage from the one arrow that got past my defenses?

The ogre can see three humanoid archers.

Taking her cue Hitomi drops to the corridor and charges the ogres, drawing her long knives as she goes.

OOC:  I don't think Hitomi can reach them in one move.  She will attempt to dodge any arrows at need.

OOC:  Assuming we are in combat time, are you really taking a Do Nothing action for the next several seconds?  Mind you, I don't actually know that we are, or that if we are we are doing 1 second rounds.

OOC: Yes.  I'm taking a Do Nothing Maneuver.  If any of the following happens, I'll charge down the hallway, shield in front, until I can get close enough to strike.
I'm waiting for either;
1) Fireflies to illuminate the target OR
2) trolls to fire another volley of arrows OR
3) someone else just charges down the hallway  OR
4) A few seconds pass and none of that happens

OOC:  Well, Hitomi might be feeling lonely by herself down there. ;>)

An explosive sound echoes from the room the archers are in, all of them
that can bee seen seem visibly shaken.  Stark can see two of them reaching
To cover their ears, the third in front of him shakes its head but still
Nocks an arrow. The archers are about his height, perhaps a hand shorter, and have dwrk green skin, long noses and deep black eyes. The wear leather armor
of an odd hue, and carry long knives and axes as well as their recurved bows.

That's my queue (it'll do for one anyway).  I charge the one who's preparing to fire.  Shield in front, axe in hand.

When I get to him, I'm taking him out;

Axe/Mace -3 rapid strike= 16 (rolled 7) 18 cutting damage
Axe/Mace -3 rapid strike= 16 (rolled 11) 12 cutting damage


OOC: I know you already said "cut him to pieces" but I wanted to roll damage anyway.

I run at and attack the next closest troll.  If he's too far to just step to, I'll use Extra Effort (Heroic Charge or Giant Step, whichever best fits).

Splitting its collar boone, but sticking a little as he pulls it out, and
the axe spins in his hand, necessitating that he take a moment to
 re-ready its facing.

Hitomi slashes at the nearest troll's neck/face*.

*Trolls were described as wearing leather armor, but not to what extent.  Attack is at neck (-5) if unarmored, face (-5) otherwise.

Hitomi slashes the unprotected throat of the troll and it falls to its
knees, dropping its weapons to clutch at the spurting wcound.

To clarify, these trolls are wearing leather torso, groin and limb armor,
Their necks and faces are bare. Each one wears a long knife and a handaxe
in addition to a quiver of arrows and a bow, and most have a pouch or
small satchel as well.

I take a step back to re-ready my weapon before lunging back in.  Shield at the ready.

I turn my head to the side in an attempt to shout toward my friends but not toward the entrance.
"It's all clear back here so far.  Is everyone ok?  Shout if you need something pierced!"

I back up a bit more toward them, keeping a watchful eye on the lit intersection we initially descended into.

Gigi moves down the corridor and look at the from the trolls are in for anymore entrances.

Gorgath sets to work on the closest troll, hacking away wildly.

Gorgath's troll falls apart in pieces, the one Stark cleaved is still twitching.

One of the trolls by Hitomi draws his knife, the other turns to run, crying out "Põgenema!"

I turn and head for the other group of trolls that are now menacing my friends.

"Hey!  Stupid!  I'm gonna make a hat out of your face."

I'm attempting to taunt the closest one (or all of them).

"Little help here please!" Hitomi calls out as she attempts to stop the fleeing troll.

OOC:  I don't know the relative spacial positioning of Hitomi and the two surviving trolls at this point.  If she can directly attack the troll who is turning she will, if she has to run around the one with a knife, she will do so, if she has to actually evade (Acrobatics vs. DX to evade) she will attempt that.

The armed troll tries to slice at Hitomi as she passes, but she evades him easily. She tries to slice at the departing troll, and scores his shoulder armor as he ducks to the side.  Hitomi is moving faster than him, and can lam into him, or attack again as he can't outrun her.

Hitomi attempts to step in front of the fleeing troll, aiming a slash at his neck as she does.

The troll impaled himself on the blade, and falls to the ground with blood spurting all over.

Hitomi faces the remaining troll, pointing one of her blades at the ground, the other held at guard. "On the ground now if you want to live."

The troll spits and swings at Hitomi, slicing deeply unless she dodges.

"Any time Stark, any time." Hitomi says grinning as she takes a step back and catches the trolls swing between her crossed knives, then counter strikes at its neck.


[Private to GM:   Retreating dodge would be@13, also good enough, but I think she had the option of parrying.

While Hitomi got a good one in on the troll, Stark dismembered it.

"See?  When me and Gorgath are on the job, the buggies just... die."

I glance back to Gorgath and the crippled, yet still living troll.

"Hitomi, did you want to chat with one?"

Hitomi wipes off her blades and tucks them away while she speaks.  "Don't get too big headed - while you guys were playing I put two of them down and third was on the way, and that's not my job.  Watch the corridors gentlemen, there might be more coming.  Priestess, can you keep any of them alive long enough to question them?  They aren't down here unless someone is paying them, and I want to know who and why.   Everyone else up here please."
