"That is a fine suggestion, but I am not one to act on that without consulting the
elder. Call upon Angrid for judgement."

An elderly, wrinkled trollwife pushes through the others, her robes thick with embroidery,
her staff as gnarled as she is and marked with runes.

The sage raises his eyebrows.
"She says, don't send for her, she is here already. Her name is Angrid, and she speaks for this clan."

In reply to Aethelbert (msg # 388):
Your troll touches his forehead to her and speaks.

Aethelbert satranslates part of this.
"He is saying we are to be put to the test, and that wait, that's wrong! we want to go to the Library not the island! What Island? Mida saarel? Tahameraamatukogu!"

"Greetings and respect Grandmother.  I have the duty to speak for my companions.  Had I known your family made a home in these depths we thought long abandoned I would have sought your leave and safe passage.  I am charged by those to whom my word is given to aid this sage in recovering that which has been lost and I am not free to lightly turn back.  I can offer nothing at this time but sadness for the loss of your children and my promise that with peace between us no more will be lost."

In reply to Hitomi (msg # 390):

Athelbert translates, with more than a little help from Fenric, and Angrid seems to appreciate your use of honorifics.

In reply to Troll elder (msg # 391):

He translates what Angrid is saying, but seems to have his own ideas about it.
"That is well and good, Hitomi of the Jaguar clan, but none may go to the island...
What is it with the isl;and? I want the library not the island... until they have given proof
 that their visit their will bring no further harm upon my people"

In reply to Aethelbert (msg # 392):

"Exactly what kind of proof is this going to entail?"

"Continue translating sage, even what I say amongst us."

Turning her head to Aoife and Gigi she asks "Can either of you help us better understand each other?  If you can, do so at any time."

Turning back to the troll wife she continues "Grandmother, what proof do you seek?  If my sage understands what is said your son speaks of a test, is this a test of intent or of skill?  We are seeking a library long abandoned.  Is it to be found on an island within water beneath the surface?  Have you questions of me Grandmother?"

In reply to Hitomi (msg # 394):

Aethelbert pauses before translating.
"There will be five challenges. The first challenge will be for our
Champion to beat their champion."

"What is the nature of the contest between the champions Grandmother?  If it is a combat to the death I ask you to reconsider as I would have no more deaths between us."

In reply to Hitomi (msg # 396):

Angrid shakes her head gently.
"Ei mu laps, mitte surma, kuni üks vastastest ie saa enamenam võidelda, või tunnistab."

Aethelbert licks his lips.
"Um, no my child, not to the death, until one is harmed? Unable to continue! Or yields."

"Will the champions use weapons and armor as they choose or will it be naked unarmed?"

A slight grin sneaks onto my face at the mention of a fight.  It slips away the instant the word "naked" is spoken.

In reply to Johan Stark (msg # 399):

"Olgu Meistrite valida saaksid valmistuda olma äranägemise järgi.

Aethelbert translates for Angrid,
 "Let the champions arm themselves as they see fit, no one can interfere with them."

Hitomi turns to look at Gorgath.  "Sounds like one for you big guy - are you game?"  Turning back to the elder.  "I have asked my companion Gorgath to stand for us in this contest, but we are a free people and the choice will be his."

Gorgath looked from the cat-lady then back to the trolls,

"No problem."

A grin appears upon his face and his hands tighten around his weapon.

In reply to Gorgath (msg # 402):

Angrid raises a finger, and as she speaks, raises each of the others until
holding five fingers aloft.
"Liskas valehest võitlust sportlast, tean, et sa testida täpsust
kirve viskamine, suutlikkust tulle toime põlevad, kolju kahjustamata meie
kodu. Siis hinnatakse vaikne käimine, kui teravmeelsus on vaha läheneda
saarel. Lõpuks lahing Mõistmine."

Aethelbert's eyes widen.
"In addition to the fight between champions, you will be tested on
accuracy of axe throwing, the ability to deal with a... flaming skull without
 burning down the place, then on stealrh, because subtlety is needed to
approach the island, and finally a battle of wits."

"It appears they want to see how all of us handle ourselves, some singly, some together.  I will handle the test of stealth.  Who wants the others?"

I step forward, dropping my arrow and slinging the bow.

"Well, since they know better than to test my archery, I suppose I could take the flaming skull challenge."

In reply to Syrik Flaire (msg # 405):

Angrid greets Hitomi and Gorgath, having completed their challenges.

"Successful I see.  Did you have to kill anyone?" Hitomi says to Gorgath when she sees him.

"Greetings Grandmother.  While we wait for the others to complete their contests might I ask you some questions, and perhaps answer some for you?"

In reply to Hitomi (msg # 407):

Fenric relays your question, and Angrid responds,
" Milliseid küsimusi, ei Hitomi of Jaguar hõim on rahvale IdaIda sügavamal?"

Fenric translates, "and what questions hss Hitomi of the Jaguar
clan for the people of the Eastern depths?"

"Simple questions, and like all such, perhaps difficult.  What do you want for your people, what do you need for your people, and what stands in your way?  Can we help each other get what we both want?"

In reply to Hitomi (msg # 409):

Angrid looks at you sternly,
"Üks asi, meda mi vaja on hädas tulevad meile saarelt. On oht,
et minu inimesed."

Fenric tilts his head and translates;
"One thing we do not need, is problem from the island. There
Is danger there for our people."
