Re: Island Fortress of the Baron

Zarrat nodded agreeing to Hallic's comment, What better way than to hide in plain sight. he comments before providing the Elf with the details of the operation, his thoughts on how this can be achieved, then ask Hallic if he had any thoughts about improvements or changes he considers appropriate.

Re: Island Fortress of the Baron

In reply to Zarrat (msg # 39):

"Your target is an easy one to spot; he wears full plate armor under his
Purple robes and looks about as easy to deal with as a constipated dragon.
Not too many noteable weaknesses, seems razor focused on tax issues and
Revenue for the plutonic temple.  His Acolyte, Flavius looks to be an easier
Roll, he is disorganized and has shown up herer looking hungover.
As to coffee trade, gods love it, it looks to be a monopoly, handled through
Shipping.  The captain I hear spoken of the most is Ibraham, a very
Straightforward fellow, out sailing for he Isle of the weavers
To gather silks, if I am not mistaken.  He should be back in a few weeks,
And it may be another month before he does a return trip from
Valdassa. The price on the beans should be starting to soar, as there are a
Number of speculators."

Interresting, Zarrat beams Have you noticed any others who Plutocrat Remulos has regular associations with or perhaps even some clashes

Re: Island Fortress of the Baron

While discussing possibilities with Hallic, Zarrat gleans what he can about the internal politics of the Barons court. One of the things he needs to know is the Plutocrat's schedule, which necessitates a means of gaining access to it; from what he's been told Acolyte Flavius would be responsible for that.

In reply to Zarrat (msg # 42):

"He is here most days, but attends to business back on the mainland
in the early morning and evening, keeping to his quarters in the temple
district, as far as I know.  He has issues with many of the courtiers,
particularly with the master vinter, who is a druid by faith."

Re: Island Fortress of the Baron

Dealing with the Plutocrat isn't going to be as easy as he first thought the fellow appears to have no apparent friendly or even neutral associations only issues with other Courtiers. This in itself presents opportunities he could explore.

In reply to Zarrat (msg # 44):

"Do you see that fellow over there?" he indicates DuClaire, the wine
 merchant you sailed in with.
"That guy is selling wine from the southern part of the empire. The master
vinter will not like the competition, on the other hand, his only way to act against it would be to propose a tax on imports, and that would help your target, see if you can make them friends and not rivals."

In reply to Hallic (msg # 45):

I see thus steering Plutocrat Remulos towards challenging the Master Vintner interests, sounds promising. [Private to GM: Not being as devious as Zarrat I suspect there'll be quite a few details I'd miss so Zarrat will set about this scheme using whatever means at his disposal to facilitate this setup ]

In reply to Zarrat (msg # 46):

You can see that the master of the vines avoids even being near Remulos,
and that DuClaire is sizing him up in terms of standing. Like you, duClaire
enjoys a certain amount of status, but not as much as the councillors.
Of course, du Claire is better dressed...

After discussing perspective outcomes with Hallic Zarrat moves towards DuClaire greeting him and enquiring how things progress with his endeavours; mentioning that he noticed the interest he had in Remulos.

In reply to Lamont duClaire (msg # 49):

I've heard that the Plutocrat Remulos has often been consulted by the Baron on various matters. Having only juts arrived in the Court I shall determine such aspect as prudence dictates.
Zarrat comments casually glancing at the Plutocrat adding If this report holds true, he may be useful contact, or means of bypassing some of the typical bureaucratic obstacles.

"Hmmm. That is good to know. Getting in with this fellow might
Mitigate the resistance I would face from the local talent. I can afford a
License more than a delay, and any tarrifs or duties can be forwarded to the
