The Northport Adventurer's Guild

Entering the guild, near the intersection of the Red light, merchant and
artisinal districts, you encounter the burly Scottsman sitting at his desk
With the old Rogues' guild sign,
Anything that isn't nailed down is mine, anything I can pry up isn't
Nailed down.

To the side of McCain, who will check the serial number on your tin badge
against his ledger to be certain of your membership, is another sign:
All weapons larger than a knife must be checked or peacebonded

Beyond the sign, is the entrance to the main guild hall, where you can also
see a dozen halberdiers waiting to enforce the second sign.

Re: The Northport Adventurer's Guild

Stepping through the doorway, I approach the burly human.  My face dominated by a wide smile.
Hello sir.  I'd like to go inside.  I'm looking for a friend and also seeking work.
I hand him my axe and shield and head into the main hall.

I'll look around for familiar faces.  If I make eye contact with anyone, I'll greet them with a smile and gentle nod.

Once inside, I'll find a place to sit, resting my pack and helmet in the seat next to me.

Re: The Northport Adventurer's Guild

I stand, leaving my gear behind, and approach with a very peaceful gait.
I'm dressed neck to toe in leather armor that's seen some wear and has been recently mended.
My pointed ears and fair skin would tell you I'm an elf.  My serpent-like eyes and tentacled fingers say otherwise.
A jeweled torc wraps around my neck, carved in the form of a snake swallowing it's own tail.

I apologize for being forward, but I couldn't help overhearing your conversation.

I bow my head and close my eyes for a second.  Opening them and raising my head as I speak.

I am Dareos Madrigar.  Cleric of the Order of Sethygg and I would like to offer you my services.

A stranger approached Christine.

"Hello there," said a female faun. "My name is Daphne. I hear you're in need of a healer. While I haven't the skill myself, Lord Mercury has granted me a wonderful friend and fellow servitor who has exceptional healing ability. Allow me to introduce you to Cloud."

"Hello," said a pixie. He perched himself on her shoulder. "We are looking for some work, if you'll have us. I can take care of all your wounds."

"And I have a great deal of ranged capability, the bow being my specialty," said Daphne.

As I have just mentioned, we expect to be facing trolls with bows and supported by mages. I have the spells, but if you are able to restore energy as well as health, I would say we will have plenty of work for both of you.

Shall we ll go and discuss terms of the contract now with our employer?

"A friend of mine may have passed here recently.  Perhaps some of you met him.  He's a scout and archer named Petyr."

After Christine mentions discussing the contract.

"Of course.  Let's meet your employer."

du Clairs cellars are cleared and sealed. Or at least the upper and mid levels are, as requested. The bonus of the lower levels was not able to be completed due to the excessive number of trolls there causing injury to most of the party, and hence we have recruited some extra assistance. I left a couple of fire elementals down there to keep the trolls entertained until we return, but I fear their spell casters will have dealt with the poor creatures by now.

I have heard through the grapevine that du Claire wishes to have the lower levels claimed as well. We wish to discuss terms to do that, if that is the case.

There are a few options, most selling at list, give or take a merchant roll,
But you may be able to scrounge something from a returning adventuring party that has either had to hock equipment to pay for healing or have just
upgraded. There a few dwarves that upgrade, and if need be, after purchasing used (60%) you can have the clothwork replaced by Simeon and Marceline.

"If they was the same, they'd weigh the same. And cost the same. So whatever goes into making brigadine better protection at less weight costs more. B'sides, the craft guilds all make sure their members charge the same price so nobody undercuts them. No armorer would go against the guild... he'd be run outa town."

Lepkur handles the books for both enterprises.
My last establishment, in an ancient arena with a brewery warehouse built
over it, was raided a week or so ago, and I have been hemorrhaging funds ever

rival organization has been trying to get its hands on my thing, by sending
runners with bidding slips into my territory and making overtures to some of
my people. Madeline has been keeping tabs on some of my other fighters, and I
think I know who is responsible. I need to teach these guys a lesson about
how things operate in this town, and I need for that lesson to be taught by

Here is my thought on this. For max humiliation, we want Kalvo to look like he runs a group of incompetent fighters and being bested with swords by a halfling has done wonders for humility, in my experience. However if his gear doesn't work, it may be very apparent that this was set up. Also, he may not feel completely defeated if he can say 'If my gear wasn't sabotaged, I would have won.'"

"Oly, here, is good for it. This is the kind of work he does. Quiet. Sneaky. But I don't know jack shit about Arvak. I just met the guy, and as far as he knows he just wants to challenge Kalvo to boost his own reputation. So you can hire him if you want, but I can't recommend him, because I don't know him."

If there are no other questions, Danos and the rest head out to the area where Kalvo and his cronies operate and he starts making inquiries about their usual haunts - where they drink, what they do in their off-time.

"Should we split up, then regroup this evening and share what we've learned? I fear an elf, a halfling, and a... gentleman such as Oly all making inquiries together might be a little too conspicuous. The guild's main dining hall is a large, two story affair, with a flight of
steps leading above to the mezzanine level, where there are shops, better
rooms and the recruiting conference rooms.
You can see a line of guildmembers heading through an archway into the
kitchens, and emerging through another with wooden bowls of stew and hunks
of stale bread, to sit at the various tables.
Ah, the guildmembers! Mercenaries, charlatans, minstrels and thieves of every
stripe imaginable.
A couple of disreputable wizards are playing some kind of board game with
Minature golems as playing pieces, a pair of goblins are chatting, and getting the eye from another group of goblins. A little further off, and you
can see an odd grouping. There is a large half ogre warrior in heavr armor,
A begoggled man in leathers, together with a turbaned man holding a writing
kit, a tatooed orcish woman with magically dyed hair and a half elf with a
quiver of torches. They look up at you as you enter.

A young aralaise man emerged from the main hall. He had the relaxed, confident air of an able swordsman and wore a chain shirt with attached coif, beneath a hooded, leather jacket. You're proposal sounds like it would delay us a day or two with visits to the Sage Guild to see if they know of and recommend what would work and the amount to use; then get that made up by the Alchemists before visiting the Butcher. Re: The Northport Adventurer's Guild

A newcomer arrived through the guild doors, wearing a heavy-looking black robe and leather boots under a similarly-black cloak, his head - with short, black hair - uncovered. He held a long, silver quarterstaff in his left hand.
In a practiced gesture, he fished for his membership token on a chain around the neck. "Good morning, Mister McCain," he rasped a greeting. "Turns out they were not interested in more than cantrips. At least they paid for lodgings."
As he replaced the token, the clasp on his cloak moved and uncovered a horrible scar on his throat, the reason for his voice. "Still, two weeks wasted on the road. I hope yours were better?"
Darius Kopaki engaged in small talk with the doorman for a few minutes before moving off into the main hall to check for more productive things to spend time on.

Motioning for the team towards the Mage Broderick spotted a black clad goblin, and hideously scarred trollish archer who to apparently failed in their attempt to blend in with the general vagabonds, mercenaries, mountbanks, and other malefactors often found seeking custom or diversion in the common room. Greetings Master of the Arcane Arts, doth sound as if you've had a tedious fortnight... he prompted with a pronounced smile.

"Slow down, my friend," Sederic says, an air of calm about him, "your questions will be answered in time. Do you care for a glass of water, conjured it myself?"
He pulls his water skin and makes to pour a glass for Dne. He looks to his sword and hushes it, shooting a nervous glance at the bird-thing.
"I've been in Northport for a long time, oft trapped in the libraries or sparring cages, sharpening my varied arts. I've been here since the plague, only leaving for small outings over the last few years. Sadly, my obsessions leave me with little time for idle gossip, which is why I've invited you over. The name's Sederic, by the way, and you are?"
He shoots another glance to his sword, pushing it aside as one might do to an annoying child.

"Well met, dne.  I have delved into a dungeon or two in my day. With my studies where they are I feel that is the only viable option I have left. The search for knowledge is never ending and I wish to see what mysteries the undercity holds."
His hand strays to the hilt of his sword, stroking the leather wrapped handle with his thumb the way an addict would caress his paraphernalia.
"I've many questions that need answering, dne, and I am in dire need of coinage. A scholars work is never done, and between my sword play and magicks, there is far more to learn."
Sederic takes a drink of water and refills his cup, offering more to dne.
"Have you any word on jobs through the guild in the undercity?"

My sword has a need for blood, and of I do not spill any soon, it will eventually sap me of strength."

*Aegis steps into the guild hall with bottle of ale in hand. As he approaches the other guild members, walking slowly, he takes off his hood, revealing the face of a man of about thirty. He has dark brown hair that reaches down to his neck, and across his left eye is a nasty looking scar, one that he had gotten in a gang fight many years prior to his membership in the guild. Aegis then takes a swig of ale from the bottle, then places it on a wooden table.

Sederic glances at aegis, smiling in remembrance of the young boy he once knew, time not affecting him as it does other humans due to his half blooded nature.
"Aegis, my boy, there's a seat open for you here," he inclines his head to a seat by dne at the table they are sat at. He takes his bow and quiver and hangs them on his chair, tiring of the rattling of the arrows caused by the air elemental. He unstrings the bow and wraps the cord into a coil and places it in his pouch, tying the bow stick to his quiver.

Dne notices a spot of dust on the table and casually blows it clean with a tiny gust of air from his fingertip.

"I'm ready, personally, but i know not if the others are," Sederic says.  "It seems they are rather intent on getting the most information available. My guess would be that these bandits have scouts on the southeast roads looking for valuables and worthy marks.  If we could make one of us, or the entire group, seem worthy of burgling, they may come en masse. Even if they dont, I'd bet they would send a bigger party after we slaughtered their initial one."
"We could also try to get one of our own into the Wench and mention us as a wealthy party setting out or returning, and when they find us, have an ambush prepared with our best spellthrowers and archers. I'd at least like to have a plan before setting out, Masugatan."
As he finishes talking, he unslings his quiver and counts his arrows, and upon finishing slings them back over his shoulder. He pulls Miekka from his scabbard about a half an inch, an audible thrum being heard as he does so, and slides it back into the scabbard, being satisfied with what he's seen and heard.

However, he curses me with nightmares that terrorize my dreams and make sleep damn near impossible at times. Iy leeches energy from me if I cannot provide him blood. I tracked it down to a cave through my reading, and went with a group of friends to retrieve it from the draugur that guarded it. Sadly, my companions were killed in the fight and I barely escaped with my life after saturating it in fireballs. Such a fine sword compliments my already impressive swordplay, yet I haven't decided if it's truly worth it, at the cost of my health and the horrors I've witnessed in my dreams."

Sederic turns his attention again to Dne and smirks.

"I've just met him today. He seems a decent enough fellow, really. He didn't endanger anyone during our mission, he just didn't tell us that we couldn't pass beyond the gate. It made our mission frustrating, in that we were pretty much stuck from advancing literally right from the gate! Eventually, we attracted the slorn and dispatched it with spells and arrows, through the bars. I delivered a coup de grace, thrust through it's eye!"
Grimaldi made a mock sword thrusting-motion, before taking another spoonful.
"He has a pretty wife, that follows him with a heavily armored dwarven bodyguard. Their seneschal, Monsiuer Carruthers, and also a faerie accompanied them. Master Broderick carries a rapier, but I have never seen him use it nor, know much of his reputation."
Grimaldi dunked another piece of bread.
"He seems to be a man of import, from all appearances. He lives in his own private quarters in the guild, and his wife mentioned they are to attend the bishop's ball this evening. That suggests he has many connections within, and without the guild, if this is true."
Grimaldi raised an eyebrow, chewing his food.

"Like hell he didn't...wait, you said he couldn't pass through the gate? His original proposal called for opening the gate straight away...how did he plan on that then if he never could open the gate? Or maybe he just lied to you. Anyway, Helios knows, not I. But his attitude of standing back when it became clear we were in more danger than was anticipated rather than trying to find a safer way to do it, ignoring those who were most experienced with those creatures, was not something I can work with.

Whoever his connections, Sederic, watch out for yourself. Because he wont, if history is anything to go by. Wish you all luck on your next trip with him.
"

He heads back to the other table where Dne is waiting loudly.

"Well, the dwarf just stands there staring blankly, but i'm sure this would change in times of danger. He looks quite stout, and wields a hammer. The lady, seems to know some earth magic, and others were more or less low profile attendees. The priest got in some good shots with searing bolts, and a troll archer, with well placed shots, were extremely applicable to our success. Darius, I've seen him with the guild necromancers, though not actively doing legwork. He casted some great spells I observed, and will note later."

Reaching the Guild Broderick asked the adventurer's to wait for him in the common room while he collected their payment here. Before finalizing this task could you provide your views on the enterprise and suggest possible ways it may have gone smoother Thanking Grimaldi, Rafik and Darius for their response, Broderick asked the team to wait for him here informing them that he shall return shortly with their payment.  Accompanied by Clair, Carruthers and Smasher they made his way to his suite. Returning to the common room, Broderick heard the Priests slanderous Comments directed at himself, slandering his character before other Guildsmen. Moving across to Darius, Grimaldi and Rafik, Broderick handed each their agreed payment, asking them to sign a receipt for this payment and stating they should have considered his initial suggestion of dealing with the Slorn as it included aspects they could have employed.
Broderick greeted the guildsmen Grimaldi was associating with enquiring about their well being.

Darius, having entered behind Grimaldi, Broderick, and the others, had mostly stayed in the background, lost in thoughts. He's a gaunt-looking human man, with short dark hair. His silver staff now leaned against the table, his cloak folded besides him as he silently ate his soup, noting down some things on parchment.

As Broderick returned with their payment, he looked up and quickly returned the parchment back to a pocket.
