Below themain hall and the arena leves of the guildhall is the undercroft of
the guild. Here are furnaces and forges of the dwarves, administrative
offices, a shantytown of kobold laborers, and barracks for indentured guild
workers, not all of whom are still alive. On the edge of the kobold quarters,
the guild's chief necromancer Selan has his office.
The area around it is poorly lit, and the kobolds living closest have symbols
 of protection chalked on their walls.

A pair of hooded forms stand by the entrance to the hallway.

I walk over and say to the hooded forms
" 'Ello gents, could either of you direct me to Dagon or Selan?"

In reply to Arvak Garver (msg # 2):

"Dgn?...Sln? Wt hrr."

I stand there for a few moments trying to puzzle out any meaning from his response.
Unsuccessful, I point and gesture at the hall and myself while slowly speaking.
"Is it ok for me to go in?"

In reply to Arvak Garver (msg # 4):

The hooded figure raises his arm, which has a hook for a hand and repeats its
gravelly murmur.
"Wt..hr...ll..gt..Dgn." He then turns and opens the door and
steps through, pulling the door closed behind him.

In reply to undead minion (msg # 5):

The door creaks open once moor, and the hooded figure steps out, followed by a man in a hooded robe carrying a staff.
"I see, you must be the hflng my minion said wanted to see me.
How can I help you? Are you looking to raise a body, or contract to sell
one?"

I perk up at the mention of selling a body.

"I came for neither, but I am interested in the terms of selling a body... Could I make a contract for my own body once I die? Do undead keep their consciousness? Their skills?"

In reply to Arvak Garver (msg # 7):

"As it is legal only to sell yourself when dead, or those with whom
you have made a legal compact, such as a formal company of adventurers, to
discourage stealing or making bodies, plenty of people do, usually to pay
debts. We pay about twenty five Francs for a mostly intact body. The guild
uses reanimates as obstacles for proficiency runs. Generally, they don't
come back with their wits, but it has been known to happen.  Cavill is a rare
exception. My minions have some dim awareness, but don't recall their former
 lives."

"Could I give myself for free and upgrade to better materials to get the 'hope for a second life' package?"

I see Oly and Danos approaching and wave them over.
"These are my associates Danos and Oly."

Danos can barely contain his revulsion at the palpable necromantic magic here, but when greeted by Arvak he moves closer and gives a polite bow to Dagon.

Oly follows Danos over, but says nothing and makes no greeting or sign of deference.

In reply to Arvak Garver (msg # 9):

"Deliberately becoming undead is a lot more difficult than that: it
Looks like less than one reanimation in a score results in something close
to a semblance of the former person. Pursuing the other option takes a
tremendous amount of power and skill, whereas this is more a matter of luck.
Even, say, prophylactically storing your life essence and reinhabiting your
own reanimate, which is a lot easier than trying to preserve yourself through
a necromantic transformation still has risks, and from what I hear, is
generally unpleasant for the person to have their essense removed, and to
hear Cavill tell it, to be a reanimate as well. I just look at this path
as a way of freeing people from tasks that are menial and poor paying."

Danos' elvish reverence for nature was certainly challenged by the unnatural attitude Dagon approached life and death, but he had a job to do.

"While the particulars of your business and philosophy are interesting, we came seeking information about a certain skin-changer as we heard you might have insight into his powers. The one who fights for Kalvo. Is there anything of interest that you'd like to share with us?"

I nod along with Dagon as he talks, very interested, but after Danos speaks I say
"Danos is right, business before pleasure. Any information on the skin changer would be helpful."

In reply to Arvak Garver (msg # 14):

"Which skinchanger? I know about six of them. Is this the fox spirit or the werewolf you want to know about?"

"His name is Monorith, but I'm not sure if he is a werewolf or a fox spirit."

In reply to Arvak Garver (msg # 16):

The necromancer rolls his eyes.
"Oh, him. He's neither. Monorith is a were lion, and a bit mental, if you ask me. Why the interest?"

"We've heard that he has been involved in pit fighting, and we heard he performed a guild challenge last season. We're hoping to get an idea of what kind of a fighter he is - there's a lot of money in pitfighting these days but no money in the world is worth being disemboweled by a were-lion you weren't ready for.

"You seem quite knowledgeable in the local lycanthropes. Do they have a special interest in your business?"

Oly looks quizzical  Whadz a Lycandrope?

Whispering to Oly "It's a fancy word for a were beast"

Oly Nods... Oh.

In reply to Danos (msg # 18):

"Nothing particular, but I seem to keep meeting them, and people of
dubious extraplanar ancestry or  suffering from curses. There may be a
disturbance in local probability near me, or a nexus of peculiar nature
associated with the circumstances of my birth.
  Your question pertained to Monorith. He is of Aral, but bears a Sahudese
sword, and knows something of their unarmed fighting styles, but is not the
expert he thinks he is. Like all shape shifters, he is vulnerable to silver.
Once, when he was struck by a silver piece one of the guild orcs fired at him
 with a prod during our proficiency run, he blurted out that he thought he
had been struck by peach wood. He may have acquired the dread of peach wood
from his supposed Sahudese travels; apparently fox spirits and even dragons
 from the region are spooked by it. We were visiting on a former guildmaster,
also from the region, to sell him a set of obscene ivory carvings, and he,
Being a rude fellow, spat a peach stone at Monorith, causing him to back into
the corner and whine. I never liked him."

"Lucky for you then, because we are planning on taking him down a peg. Do you happen to have any peach wood or even a peach seed handy?"

"Thank you, you have been most helpful."

With that, Danos takes the excuse to leave and beats a quick retreat. Only when he is out of sight of the necromancer does his face seem to regain its original colour.

Seeing Danos walk out in a hurry, I quickly walk over and shake Dangon's hand and say "Thank you so much for the information." and in a lower voice after "and if my body happens to show up here one day, please put on the extra effort for me." with a quick wink after.
Then I run to catch up to Danos.

Oly is out the door with Danos... Dat plaze is creepy.

Danos tries to regain his composure as he speaks.

"Agreed, Oly. I guess maybe that kind of thing is more palatable to short-lived creatures since they are obsessed with death, and that I should just get used to its presence in human cities.

"In any case, it looks like we have some excellent possibilities to make our were-lion Monorith look foolish and ineffective. Should we head to the market? I think I might also see if I can spot a poorly-secured purse of silver coins, just for peace of mind."

I dink we zhould... bud zhould we waid for Arvak firzd?

"Absolutely. It looks like he's right behind us."

Danos waits until his shorter companion can catch up.

"Arvak, are you agreed that we should head to the market?"

After my minor workout catching up to those longer of leg I say
"Sounds good! The less damage I have to do to these folk, the better suited they will be for immediate employment by Kalvo.

Zo we lookin' fer a peachwood Zord and a few Peach Pids?

"If we can get a sword, then the pits may not be needed.
Ooc: In this setting, is it unreasonable to be afraid of peachwood? Might we need to hide it in the fight?
