Return to the Palace of Sakemoko

"Jin, there is a spell called Detect enemies but as any magic, it is draining. So you can not keep it up all the time. Otherwise, it is hard to detect ninja's as their specialty is hiding and attacking from the shadows."

Return to the Palace of Sakemoko

In reply to Jin (msg # 30):

"Actually, I do have spells that allow me to detect foes.  As of yet, they have not alerted me of any dangers", Ales replied.

He shrugged.  "However, that may soon change once we're outside the sanctity of the dick god's abode."

"No, I mean real divination. Cast a spell, know where trouble is waiting for you that day. Magic seems to be very useful if you use it for more than just combat." Jin grinned. "I always thought that using magic to do what someone without magic could do was a waste of potential, you know? It's like... I can deflect a shuriken with my staff. What I can't do is fly. Or see the future. Or know what someone is thinking. You know?"

In reply to Jin (msg # 33):

"that sort of magic requires one to know a host of other seemingly unrelated magics, depending on the methods used.. mostly an assortment of elemental magics, if i'm correct."

In reply to Iskander (msg # 34):

"For example.. casting gems into a pool, to divine, would require water and earth magics.. or some can divine by fire, by looking at the ashes...and  you get the idea?"

"Sadly, Iskander is correct.  I do hope one day I will learn what is considered by some the holy grail of magics: teleportation."

His eyes glazed over, as if he was high on opiods or something.

"So learn those spells. If Chou can run off and come back an hour later with three new spells, it can't take a lot of time."

He hefted his staff. "You only need to be good at one thing to be useful. No need to try and be shitty at all things with magic, you know? That's why we act in groups, not alone."

"As much as I would love to stand around and debate magic, shouldn't we get the hell out of here before our enemies know what we are trying to do?", Ales interjected.  "While I don't think we'd have a problem getting rid of them, I would rather not have to deal with them if I didn't have to."

In reply to Airis Moonshadow (msg # 41):

You all make your way back into the artisanal district on the way to dockside. Ales feels a tingling on the back of his neck. The edge of the dockside district, and Sakemoko's home is approaching. A faint glow alerts you to the presence of the otherwise invisible Celestial being.

Return to the Palace of Sakemoko

"Jin, I can levitate, or levitate you for a short time, and I can maintain that spell for some time on myself, if not on someone larger.  I could learn true flight, even Hawk Flight, easily enough, but those spells are so tiring, especially for someone large and heavy, that I can't keep either one up for long even if I know it very well.  And, as I'm sure you know, speed is of little use compared to endurance if you actually need to get somewhere."

"Speed is more useful as a tactical element of combat," Jin observed. "But reading minds. Seeing the future. Making Iskander or Ales a faster warrior. Creating illusions. All of these seem more useful to me than lightning whips and deflecting shuriken."

He rubbed his chin. "But then, I've always seen magic as a logistical force multiplier, rather than yet another way to fight."

"Of course, I only think of tactical utility and service to Sakemoko. Perhaps the spells you have chosen are more useful in your private life, when you do not have an entire team of warriors to coordinate with. Ha. I would take spells to summon alcohol and cheat at cards."
