Return to the Palace of Sakemoko

In reply to Iskander (msg # 55):

"At will I can provide sustainance. Ido not seek out worshipers. I am a distant
descendant of a god, but I am not a goddess. I travel the world visiting shrines of various
members of my family, and those of other fertility gods. I
will not again visit the Temple of Priapus on the southern
Isle of Telemankas; that one has a statue made of Sandstone."

Return to the Palace of Sakemoko

"Jin, I can in fact make Ales or Iskander -- or yourself -- a little faster for a long time.  As long as I can stay awake, for two or three people.  Maintaining too many spells makes it harder to cast new ones, however.  If I were to make you, and Ales, and Iskander faster, I'd increase my risk of failing when I need to cast an actual combat spell -- indeed, greatly multiply the chance of the spell failing in some spectacular or even dangerous way.

"That was why I dismissed my lights at various times in the tunnels: because I needed to cast other spells, and didn't wish to risk failure unnecessarily.

"And no, I have no spells that I use in my personal life.  Most spells you'd consider useful can only be learned if you already know certain other spells -- other than one or two in each college, known as 'basics', spells build on other spells.  Levitation requires that one know apportation, which moves an object without the need to touch it.  Flight depends on knowledge of levitation.  Hawk flight, which is faster, builds on flight."

She grins at Ales as she walks around, looking for any danger while most of the group concentrates on the goddess.

Return to the Palace of Sakemoko

He returned the smile at Airis, before he realized the hairs on the back of his neck were tingling.  "Guys, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I think we have company."

Ales thought for a moment and lowered his voice for a moment.  "I could cast a Perfect Illusion on Iskander or Jinn and when they come for the "goddess", they could let our enemies have it in a sneak attack.  In the confusion, the rest of us could get Kho back to Sakemoko and Furawa."

But it's only an idea....

In reply to Ales Konstantin (msg # 62):

The crowd is thick, and has a fair number of non humans. A
greenish fellow has a stall where he is magically sharpening
knives, and a number of other bakemono, these larger and
flat faced, and wearing some kind of pied livery and painted
spiked armor have surrounded   his stall and are yelling at
the knife sharpener.

In reply to Jin (msg # 64):

Iskander watched the situation, determining who the aggressors were, the odds, and the best way to handle them without fighting, if necessary. He would not abide menacing thugs in the marketplace, but thugs after merchants for loans didn't concern him. No, his concern was for the helpless. OOC: streetwise-14 rolls....

Return to the Palace of Sakemoko

"Hey," Jin nuded Iskander. "Reminds me of when I was starting out. Cheap muscle. Protection rackets. Breaking merchants fingers and setting their stores on fire if they didn't pay up. Sometimes I wish life were still so simple, eh, Iskander?"

He watched for a second longer. "Remind me to ask Sakemoko if these peasants pay him for protection. For now, we keep our mind on our mission, and leave other people to their own problems, understand?"

In reply to Jin (msg # 67):

"I agree, it's none of our affair." But Iskander was curious anyways, and he was a mercenary. perhaps there would be reward in his intervention. He was quite handy with knives, and was actually in the market for more.."But..I'm going to check this out. go on to Fuwara, if you want. I might be able to get me a reward, or a discount if I can help this merchant"

Return to the Palace of Sakemoko

The smile didn't leave Jin's face. "The master commanded I treat you as a member of the household. We are currently on a mission. If you abandon our job to sate your curiosity, I will treat you like a deserter. You do not want me to treat you like a deserter."

He looked at the merchants, then at Iskander. "Think carefully before you burn that bridge, because I won't hesitate to burn your entire life to the ground if you make our task more difficult."

Return to the Palace of Sakemoko

"I know that you're a busibody, Iskander, but consider. Best case scenario, you alienate one of Sakemoko's allies by disrupting their protection racket. Worst case scenario, you disrupt one of Sakemoko's rackets and I have to make an example of you. Do those green men work for the Master? I don't know. I just got here. But they work for someone, or they're stepping on someone else's toes. Getting involved only complicates things for Sakemoko, and I told you earlier. That is the only evil I acknowledge."

"Then let's finish this mission.. Because this constant, weighted threat of death, hanging over me.. is getting very tiresome..I have an obligation to fulfill, however." Iskander kept moving, he looked at Jin with a half smile and nodded, catching up with him, he walked beside him again. "No hard feelings."

Return to the Palace of Sakemoko

Airis rolls her eyes at the comments about death. Why men have to threaten so much is beyond her. "Don't worry Ales, working for the master is not always like this. He strives to maintain order in the city and avoid violence but rivals always seem to make him use people like Jin, that are good at what they do"
