Vaddis points to the east door first, then holds up three fingers, then two, then one.....then signals to open and enter...

Re: Assault on Eel's End

Had trouble uploading the map to Group 1. So updated map is visible in Group 2.

Beyond the door is a small, darkened room. A desk sits against the wall. A door to the north looks unremarkable while across from it in the southern wall is a door with the picture of a large spider painted on it.

Toke sighed in relief as the door lead to what seemed to be an empty room. The spider door looked foreboding but at least it wasn't attacking them. Yet.

Selvin looked around. "Methinks this be where the spider person lairs. Or at least works." He then made his way to the desk and looked through it carefully.

Tarrov looked around.  "Possibly," he said, neither agreeing or disagreeing with Selvin.  "Anything in the desk?"  He pointed to the southern door.  "That one goes aft.  We should check through there and see what we find.  Be ready for anything."

Vaddis readies his sword and shield to prepare for a fight. "Fire?"

OOC - I was asking if they wanted to start a fire and burn whatever was in the next room.

Sorry Vaddis. 'Fire' as in ready, aim, fire? Or you want someone to get a source of fire handy first?

Selvin, the desk is bare.

From bwhind the spider painted door, you can hear the sounds of the voices above you a little more clearly. You can also hear some chittering kind of noises as well.

Re: Assault on Eel's End

Toke had drawn his knife, but upon comparing it to the other's he felt that it would serve him better as a deterrent rather than an actual weapon. Upon Vaddis' question Toke's faulty voice cracked in the relatively silent room. "U-uh, perhaps we shouldn't use fire on the same building we are in. Don't want to get trapped-" Toke's voice was interrupted by the sound of a loud slam. Upon turning to see what it was he saw Vaddis in front of an open door. "Or start a fight needlessly." He sighed.

If able this is where he'll consume a keen senses extract.

Re: Assault on Eel's End

The reason for the spider motif on the door becomes readily apparent. Light shones down through the cracks in the floor above, illuminating a jungle of spider webs. Almost every inch of the room beyond is laced over and again with thick layers of cobweb. What used to be a hold is now an a veritable maze of sticky silk strands. The levels of silk do not hide the bones though. Human. Cat. Gnome. What may be a shark. Bones are displayed in various poses along the walls, with some dangling from parts of the ceiling.

You spy numerous spiders of regular size scurrying around. In a far corner ( southeast corner)) something larger moves. From the shadows that way a high, scritchy voice says, "Zhe comz 'n?"

Selvin grimaced slightly, then he winced a bit as he 'surveyed' the next area. He wasn't looking forward to this. "Yes, we do come in."

He spoke out of the side of his mouth quietly. "Is that what it said?"

He stepped forward, leaning down on all 'fours'.

"Well," Tarrov looked around.  "This certainly seems to be the place."  He started as the voice came from the shadows.  "And I imagine that's our target."  He gestured towards the large, moving shape, then looked around ruefully at the webs.  "Does anyone have anything that can burn these off?  Because that sounds like a good idea to me right about now."

The bard began to recite:

You may be a friend of Kindness
Give him power to abuse
And you're thinking you will bind us
I can read your recent cues

But we're not your standard victims
We've got swords and flames and whips
And when we've finished in this chamber?
Kindness' power will be clipped!

OOC:  Tarrov Begins to Inspire Courage.  Everyone is at +1 "to hit" and +1 damage.

Re: Assault on Eel's End

The bundle of skin in the corner of the next room chuckles. Or at least you think ot does. The sound is like a rusty hinge whose door long ago rotted off, squeeking as it flops about in a strong wind. It lifts out a long spindly arm. It's flesh is the color of a bruise. "Vire. Vire ever'vhere. 'N not a drop to 'rink."

The misshapen lump stands a little taller than a man and has a face not even it's mother could love. "Come my li'l onez. Do yo' Papa prawd..."

And the spiders begin pouring out of the webbing. And through the door behind you...

Don't forget the bonuses from Tarov's song. I'm going on a 9. Roll init if you haven't and state your actions. The spiders are coming out from under the door in the north as well. Two spider swarms plus Mr. Gumbo there are your visible enemies.

Re: Assault on Eel's End

Selvin let out a small sigh as Tarrov started singing. He didn't have time to do much else, however, as spiders started converging. He turned and pounced the...thing...that seemed to be controlling the spiders, hoping if he was put down the spiders would go away. Or at least be less effective. He leaped out and slashed with claws and tried to bite as well.

Toke rolled 15 using 1d20+2. Initiative.

Toke didn't like this situation one bit; it reminded him of a bad trip he once had. In his haste to dispel this oddly familiar nightmare, the bomb slipped out of his hand mid throw. Toke cursed under his breath as it left his fingers.

Toke rolled 6 using 1d20+5. Bomb to hit southern swarm.

Damage: (7 Splash [DC 16])

Re: Assault on Eel's End

Selvin charges forward as Vaddis charges backwards. In the midst of this ballet, Tarrov you see a small glass phial of foaming liquid sail through the air. It lands and bounces, suddenly erupting in a small spray of sulfurous smelling black liquid that seems to burn the deck and spiders in it's reach.

Toke, your shot went a little wild, as a sudden sound of boots outside startle you.

Vaddis, you sweep the deck with your blade, doing more with the flwt than the edge in this case. You manage to make a handful of spiders into long greasy smears. But more are pouring out.

Selvin, you charge into the room, moving to swipe at the...whatever it is. But your animal like ears hear a oise above you. A large spider, easily as big as you, is clinnging to the roof in this room, hidden by the webbing and it's molty greyish color. It is dropping towards you... Selvin, you did spectacularly well on this perception. I'll allow you to apply your attacks to either the big spider dropping on you or the wharever(Ettercap). Let me know.

Malder was starting to charge into the room behind Selvin, but pulls up short. "Damn. There's men outside. 's an ambush!" He bolts for the door. "I'll hold 'em back! Keep after these. Where tha hell is Verik?"

Verik seems to be missing.

OOC: Gah! Uh...I choose YOU, CreepyGiantSpider!

Selvin slid in his pounce and had to redirect during mid-charge. Well, he didn't HAVE to but by god he didn't want the spider dropping on him!! He kept clawing and biting at the giant creepy spider thing, hoping to kill it or hold it off until his allies came to his rescue. Unfortunately, he dimly heard that there was an ambush outside as well, so help seemed even more distant. He took a small step back as he fought.

OOC: Full attack then 5ft step back.

Re: Assault on Eel's End

Why do things always seem to go from bad to worse?  Tarrov asked himself glumly, surveying the rapidly-deteriorating combat situation.  And were was Verik?  Had he gone to confront Devargo himself?  Or was he involved in what looked like a pre-planned ambush?  So many questions.

So few answers.

Well, there was nothing for it now.  They had to fight their way out, through this ettercap and his minions.  But taking down the ettercap seemed to be the first order of business.

"Sleep," Tarrov sang, waving his arm through the air, calling on the power of music to relieve the creature of consciousness.

OOC:

Cast Sleep on Ettercap (DC 15)
Continue Inspire Courage (+1 "to hit" and +1 damage for party, 8/10 rounds remaining)

Re: Assault on Eel's End

Selvin, and here I thought you went with the mecha-style Summoner vs. the Pokemon model you rip into the spider's belly as he rips into your chest. The fangs, which you have a glorious clse up view of, puncture your friend 6 pts and deposit a sticky green pus like venom onto your chest. It's not the greatest feeling in the world, but it doesn't seem to be making you lightheaded. So you think you aren't poisoned.

As Vaddis swats at the northern swarm, Toke hears Tarrov sing a lullabye. Thesong seems to drift through the air and through the door into the next room where it settles around the Whatever-It-Is An Ettercap. Whatever-It-Is  seems to nod and droops it's shoulders. It rubs it's head but remains standing.

Malder hts the door to the hallway. In a moment outside you hear him curse and there's the sound of his sword smashing a wall. You hear a few other voices as well. Three, maybe four men. But since they are outside in the hallway, you aren't sure.

Re: Assault on Eel's End

Taking a step away from the fighting, Toke tossed another bomb at the southern swarm. Unlike his previous throw, this throw seemed perfect; from the weight of the bomb, to shape of the catalyst, everything seemed the right size and shape for this exact trajectory. Though he wasn't exactly a fan of explosives, he was certainly going to miss that little bomb.

23:13, Today: Toke rolled 25 using 1d20+5. Bomb to hit.
23:13, Today: Toke rolled 13 using 1d20+5. Comfirm crit.

Toke rolled 8 using 1d4+6. Damage: (7 Splash [DC 16]).
Damage = 14 if crit.
