Re: Hospice of the Blessed Maiden

Oddly there is no one in back. There are three large doors leading in, though all are shut tight and appear to be barred on the other side from opening. It would probably be possible to slide a blade through the crack in the door and lift the bar up on any of them. But you might not be able to set it down quietly.

All three doors are barred on the other side. There are probably multiple ways to open them. Just giving the obvious suggestion.

Peering through the crack in any of the doors doesn't provide much of a view. It seems to be a large, dark room full of crates.

Re: Hospice of the Blessed Maiden

"Perhaps if we make Selvin invisible, the front is our best option," Izzick considered, though he had no such magical ability to do that, he did have his own illusions. A simple spell seemed to have coated him in a glamor of a human sick with the plague. Though his voice sounded the same and he'd intentionally made the sickness look minor, he hoped it would suffice as long as Tarrov could lie for them all.

Re: Hospice of the Blessed Maiden

Selvin, you take a step after chanting and end up in a dimly lit room full of crates. It seems your spell went off without a hitch. The room looks like it has been unused in a while. You slip a bar off one od the doors leadong to the outside, and soon everyone is standing inside.

Other than the crates, there are doors in the south and east wall.

You can hear voices from beyond the doors. Moans and sighs of pain. The thump of boots along a stone floor. People calling for water.

The doors are old and it's easy to see through the cracks. It appears the area beyond this room is one large open space. Beds hve been lined up in rows. Victims of the plague lay in the beds, making pitiable cries. You see a few of those masked plague doctors roaming the area, as well as at least a couple of the heavily armored Gray Maidens. The door to the south seems to let out into the main area while the east door lets out onto some kind of administrative area. You see a desk, but can't make out much more without opening the door.

There is quite a bit of the areas beyond both doors you can't see yet.

Selvin looked around for a moment, mostly just to make sure there wasn't anyone right there where he appeared. After a moment, he attempted to unbar the back door he came past to let the others in as quietly as he can.

Tarrov enjoys the somewhat-fantastical experience of being let into a storage room by an invisible, teleporting compatriot.  "Why don't we go scout about a little, Selvin?"  Tarrov suggests, getting comfortable in his physician disguise.  "We can see where we might want to go, and maybe even create a distraction so that the Vaddis and Izzick," he gestured to the two remaining members of the group, "can make it to wherever we want to go without experiencing too many questions."

Giving the others a quick nod, Tarrov takes a deep breath and centers himself, concentrating on projecting an air of medical competence.  Then he opens the door, heading out into the larger room, intent on determining where their quarry might be hiding.

Re: Hospice of the Blessed Maiden

Thanks Vaddis. This scouting shouldn't take too long...

The door opens up into the ward. The beds lining the floor are filled with oatients. A few beds hold more than one person. Four of the misquito masked Plague Doctors are wandering the beds, examining patients or offering them small vials of greenish liquid. There are also four of the Grey Maidens. The burly female warriors seem to have assigned posts, two near the front of the ward, one to the east, and one standing by the administrative area in the west.

At the moment no one seems to be paying attention to you.

Map is updated in Group 1. Grey blobs are grey maidens. Yellow blobs are Plague Doctors. I am assuming those venturing out the southern door from F3.

Tarrov spots two doors in the northwest corner of the room.  "It's a large room.  Lots of Grey Maidens.  Only two doors out, though, as far as I can tell.  I'm going to check and see where they go," he whispers via his magical connection to the others.  Moving through the room in the same manner as the other physicians in the room, the disguised bard--as unobtrusively as possible--opened first the double doors, then the single door, to determine where they went.

Re: Hospice of the Blessed Maiden

Selvin, the actual ceiling is at least forty feet above you. However, a layer of catwalks overhangs the main area. You can see some movement from up there. Another Grey Maiden at least. They have a sniper up there in case...what?

Tarrov, you start to cross to the doors when something catches your eye. One of the Plague Doctors is waving at you. He waits until you look at him. He then raises his right hand. He makes a fist, keeping the ring and little finger pointed out. He points these straight up at the ceiling and then moves his hand so they point to the left. He then rotates his fist, now sticking out the thumb and pointer so they form an L.

His mask stares at you, as if waiting for you to do something.

And no. You have no idea what that means other than it's some kind of signal.

Tarrov grimaces at the Healer and inclines his head toward his shoulder, pantomiming an injury.  He walks toward the man, an apologetic look on his face, mumbling words under his breath as he does so.  As he approaches, he gives the physician his friendliest, albeit shamefaced, smile.

"Hey there, my friend.  I'm new here, and my goodness, I'm already so busy that one thing just drives another straight out of my head."  He lowers his voice and leans in.  "Could you remind me about our signals?  I really don't want to get in trouble just starting out.  Also," he flicks a glance towards one of the room's grey guardians, "do I need to know anything to stay friendly with the Grey Maidens?"  Kerr leans closer.  "They're a little intimidating.  Also, can you tell anything else I might need to know about this building and the people in it?  I don't want to go accidentally wondering into the wrong place."

Re: Hospice of the Blessed Maiden

It is a great roll. This one is a bit difficult to adjucate. We'll go with this..

Selvin you notice the Grey Maiden by the admin desk in the northwest corner look up as Tarrov  approaches the Plague Doctor. She doesn't make any moves, other than to cock her head at an odd angle. Like a big dog might who is trying to understand what it's master is saying.

The Doctor looks at you fo a moment Tarrov. It's hard to read his expression since that misquito like mask is covering his face. Tarrov, as a side note, you have the same knd of mask on as well since you are disguised like they are. So he can't see your devilish smile. That has no impact on your bluff however. "I see.." he says after a moment. His voice is a bit craggy and rough. It may be an effect of the mask.

He raises a hand, palm turned away from you, and the last three fingers pointed up. "This is...'assist me'. When did you get in?"

Izzick, you notice one of the other Doctors look up when this guy makes his hand sign. Doctor Two sets down the vial of green fluid he was trying to pour down a comatose patients throat and begins to walk over to Tarrov and Doctor One.

I made some rolls.

Tarrov: This guy seems a bit suspicious but he isn't quite sure what to think. Something you said early on seemed to raise a flag to him.

Vaddis: I'm assuming you are watching what you can. You aren't seeing any hostile movement from anyone.

Selvin: The Grey Maiden is acting like she's surprised or confused about something. But she's not making any moves.

Izzy: Doctor 2 is just walking over in respinse to the signal. He isn't making an overt hostile moves at the moment.

Everyone: It's been a while since we described the Docs or the Greys. The Docs are wearing plague doctor masks and wearing leather trench coats with many pockets. The Grey Maidens are wearing full plate and only their eyes, lips,  and the backs of their hands are visible.

I'll update the map on positions later tonight. Thanks.

Izzick, can you please run interference with that other doctor for a moment?”  Tarrov subvocalized through his whisper magic before continuing his talk with the physician before him.

Not nearly soon enough, by the look of things.”  Tarrov kept his voice down, in keeping with the somber nature of the ward.  “I was told how things were here, but I didn’t realize how serious the situation was until I actually arrived and looked for myself.”  He gave the man a beseeching look.  “How about you give me a tour of the place, and help me keep my nose clean as best you can?”  He shrugged shamefacedly.  “You can start by refreshing my recollection on the rules of this place.

Izzick nodded, though that nod turned into a desperate cough, as he began to stumble towards the doctor. How much could the sickly human do to run that interference right now? He certainly put on the best show that he could that he had the disease, asking in his natural orc-y voice for "Help," which only made him sound more sickly.

Yeah, you guys seem to have the Bluff skill mastered...

Doctor 2 stops and puts a hand on your shoulder Izzick. "Why are you wandering around? Where's uour bed?" he asks in a raspy voice. He begins to steer you towards a bed with a halfling in it. "Have you had your enema today?"

"Oh...ah...uhm..." Doctor 1 looks a bit woozy for a moment Tarrov, then he straightens up and turns, leading you to the administrative area. He says nothing for a moment, but as you get out of earshot of the patients, he speaks in a low, raspy whisper. "The sheep are stacked in color coded beds. There's a small dot on the lower right corner of each bedframe. This area serves as a testing center. Lady Andasin or Conte will send up batches dyed certain hues. You feed the concotion to anyone in a bed with a similarly colored dot. You serve a shift here and a shift on patrol." He shrugs. "Just act like a doctor and give any sheep who bleats some pain killer. It will make them feel well long enough for you to move on. Dead are sent below for Rolth. Simply stack them by the stairwell. The Maidens will handle the transport. Questions?"

Tarrov quickly subvocalized the information he'd gleaned from the doctor to the others before continuing with the conversation.

"Are there any other passwords or hand-signals I need to remember?"  Tarrov was extremely glad their gambit seemed to be working.  The doctor should be interested in helping him keep his nose clean for the duration of their stay.  At least Tarrov heartily hoped that their stay at this place wouldn't last long enough for his suggestive magic to wear off.

Izzick's incredibly-good idea came through almost as soon as the doctor was finished responding to Tarrov's question.  The disguised entertainer nodded thankfully at the bewitched doctor, then headed out to where Izzick was located.  "I'm going to be taking Izzick downstairs," Tarrov informed the group.  "Selvin and Vaddis, you need to come along as well.  Selvin, can you make Vaddis invisible?  I'll open the door for him to get out of the storage room like I am accidentally going the wrong way and realizing my mistake."

As Izzick falls, Doctor 1 turns. As does everyone in the ward. The half orc makes quite a crash.

Doctor 1 makes a sigh and waves at Tarrov. "Yes. Take him down and leave him in the entry way. The Maidens there will handle him." He shakes his head. "At least he'll make a good footsoldier."

Doctor 1 indicated the door in the northeast corner. Selvin? Invisibling Vaddis?
