Hospice of the Blessed Maiden

The guard at least was helpful.

You found no survivors in the wreck of the Corawyn ball. But you managed to escape alive and with some information. The guard you alerted came and gave you no grief. So at least they were helpful. But as they took your statements, a couple of those Grey Maidens appeared. Fierce and brutal looking female knights wrapped completely in iron armor. The Grey Maidens looked at you through the thin eye slits in their full helms as if you weren't there. They simply ordered you away from the scene. The guard officer who had been taking your statements told you to go ahead and head out. "Damn harpies..."he had muttered under his breath.

The four of you went back to the Inn and fell into your beds. You spent the nxt couple of days recuperating. And outside, the Blood Veil sank it's talons deeper into the city. News of riots in north Korvosa filtered throught the streets. Death carts stacked with bodies made their way along the lane three or four times a day. You healed up, sharpened your blades, studied your books, and considered.

Tarrov, you checked around about B7 but came up with nothing. No one seems to know a thing.

The tattoo...well. You all figured that out after the part. When the two Grey Maidens showed up. The scar on the monk's chest looked like one of the overly armored knights. Could the monk have connections with the Grey Maidens?

Rumors about the Queen's new all female guard swim along the streets of Korvosa almost as thick as does news of the plague. The Maidens are almost universally despised. They are merciless in the performance of their duties. Bar brawls are settled with the beheading of everyone involved. Thieves are crucified, often with no trial. Edicts from the Queen are ruthlessly enforced. The Grey Maidens are quiet as they perform their duties. Few claim to have heard any of them speak aloud.

The remaining clue available to you is the note on Yelley's body. Rolth commanded her to seek him out at a Hospice. The location in the letter points to the Hospice of the Blessed Maiden. A make shift plague hospital being run from a confiscated warehouse. The hospice is supposedly being run by the Queen's Physicians. Security is provided by the Grey Maidens.

Surely Rolth couldn't be there. Right?

Re: Hospice of the Blessed Maiden

Selvin gave the guard an appreciative nod at his help. It was always nice to have someone to work with, rather than someone being an obstinate a-hole. Like, for instance, the Grey Maidens who showed up. Selvin couldn't help but growl slightly at them when they ordered the group to leave. He agreed with the guard's comment silently as he left.

Relaxation was nice. Healing up his ally felt good - he didn't like having Zak damaged. He felt bad that thought they were working together, the symbiotic Eidolon took the brunt of the damage in their fights.

"So. We should follow the note t'this Hospice place then. I wanna find this Rolth, find out if he's connected t'the Queen an' her new...guardswomen...or not an' stop all this craziness. Does anyone need t'do anything t'prepare?"

Re: Hospice of the Blessed Maiden

Okay. Let me know in the OOC thread what the decision is on selling items and if you're buying anything by Friday. We can assume ya'll do it on the way. Thanks.

Korvosa is quiet this afternoon. The heat of summer is starting but this isn't the typical quiet because of the afternoon sun. You pass several buildings with boarded up windows. The trash lays in larger piles. The garbage collectors are either hauling body wagons or have fled or have died. Korvosa smells worse than usual. Like a whale that's been beached and has died, now left rotting in the sun. That's Korvosa this afternoon. You may wonder if there's anything left worth saving.

There aren't many of the Watch out. The Inn Keeper had told you that there were bad riots last night in the north of town. Someone made the decision to seal off the island of Old Korvosa and it had lead to panic which lead to the riots. When the slight breeze that is blowing blows from that direction you catch the faint whiff of smoke.

But you are heading East. The district the Hospice is in is along the wharfs. The Hospice of the Blessed Maiden is a converted warehouse. You view it from across the street. One of the many buildings converted by the Queen's Physicians to house the affected, it sits on a corner of two roads. A few of the jacketed and masked plague doctors are entering and leaving. As well as a couple of the overly armored female warriors called the Grey Maidens. A few prospective patients strafgle in as well.

There is a main entrance in front. There also looks to be an entry in back: the old loading bay from when this was a warehouse. Three large thick doors allow entry there. They are all closed.

The people around the building clear. There is no one in the street at the moment.

Re: Hospice of the Blessed Maiden

Tarrov knelt next to the group, observing the building.  "Shall we enter through the back?"  He inquires.  "I might be able to talk us out of any trouble we might encounter.  And perhaps find out of Rolth is in there."

The silver-haired entertainer gives the Grey Maidens a sour look.  "I'm pretty sure that organization is up to no good.  That tattoo . . . ."  He grunts in frustration.  "We just don't know enough about what's going on around here.  But I'm betting we'll find some answers," he nods at the building in front of them, "in there."

Re: Hospice of the Blessed Maiden

"Is there going to be an unguarded back here?" Izzick suggested, though as he pointed out a few of the doctors, he considered aloud, "If we could get our hands on a plague doctor's suit, we might be able to get inside fairly easily." His morning reading of the harrow had boded a Chaotic Evil card - The Lost. A warning - and yet, he knew that whatever they faced, a calm mind would serve him well. "We could fake illness easily enough I suppose, but I don't think I don't think our lot to mind a little force against those masked frauds."

Thats a +2 to one Wisdom check today - these cards love giving me wisdom.

Vaddis remains quiet and says nothing as the others decide on a course of action.

Selvin nodded at Tarrov. "I vote the back." He looked down at himself, 'covered' by his otherworldly ally as they hid across the street. "It....may be a problem for me to enter with you. I am quite noticeable. I could...dismiss Zac, but it takes a minute to re-summon him, not something I can do in the midst of combat."

Re: Hospice of the Blessed Maiden

"Hmmm," said Tarrov, thinking.  "Well, I do have this handy magical chapeau," he pointed to his head, "that would allow me to take on the appearance of a doctor."  He grinned.  "Or even a Gray Maiden!  Although I think that would probably not be the best choice."

The performer nodded at Selvin.  "Well, I think I have a solution.  I can deflect people's attention from you.  It's almost like you're . . . invisible.  As long as you don't take a hostile action, you can remain unnoticed for several minutes."  He looked around the group.  "I can do the same for any of you, although it does take some effort and will make me less effective as the day progresses."

"How about this?"  He suggested.  "I disguise myself as a doctor and render Selvin unnoticeable.  The rest of you can accompany me in through the back.  And if we get stopped?  Well, hopefully I can talk us out of it.  If I can't?"  He grinned.  "Well, I'm sure you'll all be ready for that, won't you?"

Selvin gave a shrug and a nod. "Works for me. We'll back you up if you get into trouble an' need it, but lead on."
