Re: Off To The Cinderlands

Chandnar nods and studies the scroll a moment.  He then starts to chant.

The air inside the room turns a bit colder.  Chandanar's breath puffs out in small clouds.  At the end of his chant, one of those clouds wafts away from him and settles on the lips of the dead woman.  It sinks into her mouth and after a moment, you hear a faint wheezing noise, as if her breathing was labored, though there is no sign of her chest rising or falling or color returning to her slashed cheeks.

Chandanar leans over and says distinctly, What did the people who did this to you look like?

After a moment the wheezing becomes more rhythmic.  You can hear the sound of a woman's voice, distant like she was not in the room, but not far away either.  Almost as if maybe she was standing just behind you.

Woman...with spear.  Four men.  Red.  Had steel claws.  Another woman.  With teeth.

Chandanar glances up at you all, waiting for the next question.

Zuni watched the spell take effect with undisguised fascination.  They were temporarily reviving someone to speak with them and that was not something that was seen every day.

"Did they say anything?  Maybe give a hint as to why they were killing folk here?"

"We could try asking if they know what the assassins were after," Izzick said, "Just in case our assassin friends remained silent during the entire ordeal." The dead might know more details about their own deaths than even their assassins.

In reply to Zuni Runesong (msg # 35):

Chandanar relays the questions on.

They kept asking if the Certain Ones had come through.  The green one in robes.  The dwarf.  The silver hair.  The glowing elf demon.  The woman with a sword.  The snarky priest.

I heard the woman with spear tell the woman with teeth they had to hurry on.  That they would find the Cinderlander.  That they would set the trap.

The woman with teeth said back that they needed to destroy the whipped one as well.

They want to silence the many boned.

Chandanar waits to see if she says anything else and shrugs.  The dead aren't known for being coherent in their replies.

"She was coherent enough."  Zuni chuckled mirthlessly and looked over at Selvin.  "So you're a glowing Elf Demon, eh?  Sounds more impressive than Woman With a Sword.  I must not make enough of an impression."

"So they were looking for us.  I don't think that I like that."  Zuni frowned as she looked around the room.  "Not in the least.  Hey, Cinderlander.  That could be C. Lander that was written on the crates."

"Green one in robes isn't all that much better," Izzick said, but he agreed. "If they're looking for us, we'll have to make sure we find them first. They're going for the Cinderlander, then that's who we need to look for again as well." With a cursory glance with detect magic, Izzick gave the room a final search before he looked to his companions to see if they were ready to continue on to finding the man who was quickly becoming the Cinderland's most wanted man.

Selvin grinned at Zuni despite the circumstances. "I DO tend t'make an impression. Everybody's after me, like all the time. It's almost tirin' really." He chuckled. "though technic'ly I'm a half-elf but that's neither here nor there."

Then he turned serious for a moment. "They're setting a trap, likely for us. Oh joy." He frowned. "Well, Many Boned is likely Thousand Bones, who we're goin' t'see, so that's bad. Whipped One? And THE Cinderlander? As in specific one or as in...like...just in general...the people or whatever?" He shook his head. "Too many questions the dead can't answer."

He looked to Chandanar. "How long ago did the assassins leave?"

And then the front door smashes open as Belgar of all people comes charging through.

Over his shoulder you can see a few Red Mantis assassins jumping to the ground from the roof.

And now we have Belgar back.  And several Red Mantis assassins hot on his trail.  So...init then.  I am going on a 12.  You can see 4 assassins over Belgar's shoulder

Belgar, skinned in bark, skids to a hault in the middle of the room and turns back towards the shattered door.  That was lucky!, he grunts as a sly grin spreads across his gnarly wooden face.  Lifting his shield and rapier he roars, Draw yer weapons Lads!  They're comin'!

21:20, Today: Belgar Ironclad rolled 13 using 1d20+6.  initiative.

Selvin was fully engrossed in the dead conversation. Well, speaking with dead, not a conversation going nowhere. They were getting useful information.

And then they were interrupted! Selvin blinked a few times. "Belgar?" His eyes narrowed. "An' y'brought company? More people t'question. Keep at least one alive, yah?"

The assassins were still close.  A day is not that much...

Zuni whirled around as she heard the roar and the crashing of the door.  "Belgar?" she said, surprise in her voice for she had thought her Dwarves companion had yet to recover from the Arkonas venture. Here he was though, and he was not alone.  Zuni drew her blade.  "At least you saved us the trouble of having to look for the killers."

Please state your actions and rolls. Five of them standing outside the busted in door, one with a wand pointing towards you. All are within 45'

Re: Off To The Cinderlands

Izzick looked confused, he'd been certain the Dwarf had died, but with his hands casting he began his spell as the mob formed for them. It had come to him recently - and his cursed blood quickly began to empower his tattoos to form two electrical orbs in front of him. Each moved forward into the crowd.

Let's try out my new spell: Ball Lightning

I summon two ball lightnings for 10 rounds. If a globe enters a space with a creature, it stops moving for the round and deals 3d6 points of electricity damage to that creature, though a successful Reflex save negates the damage. Creatures wearing metal armor take a -4 penalty on this Saving Throw.

So hitting two creatures. If any of them are wearing metal, I'll go for them first, otherwise one at the caster and one at someone else from the 5. Reflex Save DC20 (-4 penalty if metal armor)
19:36, Today: Izzick rolled 7 using 3d6.  Damage 1.
19:37, Today: Izzick rolled 10 using 3d6.  Damage 2.

Belgar pauses and reaches into a pouch, pulling out a pinch of black powder.  With a flourish of his hands, he mumbles an incantation and the bark falls away from his flesh revealing his skin with the color and texture of rough iron.  The statuesque dwarf then roars and launches himself towards the door!

Cast ironskin. Cumulative AC 30.

Re: Off To The Cinderlands

Seeing the Red with the wand, Zuni immediately changed her tactics.  She wasn't going to wait for them to come to her, not when that wand could unleash any sort of spell.  Unfortunately the Red clad opponent was too far for her to throw a dagger at him, which left one weapon with which she could reach out and slap him with.

In a blur of motion, Zuni sheathed her blade and unslung her Composite Longbow.  She pulled two arrows from her small quiver attached to her pack and drew, aiming at the opponent with the wand.

OOC:
2 x arrows at Wand Red -> 27, 27 (potential crib on second shot)
Second shot confirmation -> 21
Damage 1st shot -> 6
Damage 2nd shot -> 2 (11 if crib confirms)

In reply to Izzick (msg # 52):

The Reds go scattering as you all variously smash into them.  The one with the wand tosses it aside as he takes a blow, pulling a blade as he makes skizzing sounds from Izzick's globe.

Zuni's arrows take one of them down, with one of her shots striking through the Red's left eye.

Belgar bashes into the closest one and turns him to goo.  As the opponent goes down, the other Reds fall back.  Suddenly, from above, two crossbow bolts slam into the dwarf's back.  They bounce away harmlessly.

Belgar, you can see there are six men on the roof.  Two are taking pot shots at you.  The others seem to be moving to the other side of the building...

Selvin and Zac come roaring out through the door and towards the roof.  They manage to drive two of the Reds towards the corner of the roof.  Both of them are bleeding furiously.  They launch a counter offensive.  One of them manages to stab Zac.  9 pts Selvin

One of the others on the roof reloads his crossbow, while the other follows his compatriots to and over the other side of the roof.  There are now only three on the roof.  Two attacking Selvin and one reloading a crossbow. The others jumped off the other side of the roof, presumably to launch some kind of pincer maneuver

The one who had the wand charges the front door as another moves to intercept Belgar

Selvin, I counted your attack for the last round.  Please go again.  Same for the rest of ya'll.  Thanks.
