Re: 45: A Dangerous Crossing.

Akala merely nodded at Hoskar's apology adding, "I will live- and in time, heal.  The antidote reached the proper mouth."

He added, "Perhaps a movement charm might keep the two of you both at a speed that will allows us to reach the camp sooner."

Unless there was an objection, Akala would do just that, trying to increase the speed of Kor and Hoskar's on foot to at least that of a trot, so the group might still be of aid to the others.

Ambush

As Hoskar gives Kor the potion, Melock gathers up the rest of the gear he found, "There's quite a lot of coins among this lot. I'll put it this bag until we have time to look through it." He deposits the coins, a jem stone and some jewellery in to a plain bag and ties it to Stinky, "There's also this drinking horn with some meaty smelling liquid, I've no idea what it is, but considering what they like to eat, I don't know if I want to know." He see's Hoskar shouldering his gear, "You can put that on Stinky, you'll need all your strength for when we get back to camp. Though by the time we get there, who knows what we'll find"

Thank you. Thank you both. I'll go quicker with less kit on my back, and Kor will doubtless go quicker with some magical help. We might even get back in time to help the rest of the Rangers.

This time his smile is full and appreciative.

And that's why chaos will lose to the green one day: we stand together, it devours itself.

At the Camp

From the back of Whiteblaze where he'd hidden in a saddle bah Four Paws answers quickly

"I'm back at the camp, we ran into a mob of scorpion men and Tarnessh has been carried off, just talking to Tulox now and he says Tarnessh's being carried to the South East of where we are now at the camp. Your South West."

The spell takes hold but Kor snorts in complaint as the others try and push him faster....

Alarmed, Hoskar stops Kor's attemopts at speed. Whooo. No. Can't do that then. Thought magic speed might not hurt him, but that's not going to work at all. Looks like we're limping in.

His eyes focus elsewhere a moment.

The cat tells me the rescue party ran into a mob of scorpion men and Tarnessh has been carried off; Tulox he says Tarnessh's being carried to the South East of where we are now at the camp. I think we're South West here. Maybe we can head them off. But slowly or this here is one dead rhino.

"Not again! Well at least they are heading kind of this way." He has a slightly worried look on his face, "Looks like Ohanzee will have to wait. I'll take point and see if I can spot them, dont worry I wont go too far." He rides in to the dark, not worrying about a torch as speed isn't vital. "Taya, you can help me look for any more scorpion men, come sit up front" Taya crawls out of her bag and sits in front of Melock, "If I spot them first, I want something nice and fresh, those 2 jack rabbits back at camp will do" Melock laughs nervously, "Trust me, you dont want them, I'll catch you something else instead." he rubs her between her ears, "I've seen your attempts at hunting, just make sure its fresh and in one piece"

At the camp

GM:
Kobal finds himself next to Henal, no signs of either Salen nor of Delenda and for the moment no nearby Scorpion men.

"Are you all right?" Kobal looks at the bison brave, to see whether he needs any healing.  "What happened?  Where is Tarnessh?"  As he speaks, the brave looks around, watching for danger or anyone in need.  This is not a time to linger or have a long talk.

Tarnessh has been captured by the scorpion men. There were too many for us to fight out there so they carried him off. If things are safe here we should pursue them as I think the search party are looking to cut them off from another direction.

Henal grimaces at his bad news and the pain from his ribs.

Not severly hurt but I took a blow into my side and got a few ribs bust.

Rikki get Hoskar told we will try and join them in pursuing Tarnesshes captors if the camp and herd is safe.

Ohshit. She's right, but ohshit anyway.
More coming in from the cat: Henal's hurt but still mobile and they'll try to give chase: the bastard chaos has definitely carried off Tarnessh. Alive, as far as they know; but for how long is another matter.

He takes a deep breath and swallows hard.

Can't abandon Tarnessh to that. Kor and I can't travel any quicker. Get on if you're going: we'll follow as best we can.

Melock pauses as he heads in to the darkness when he hears Amara, "You are right Amara, but I wont leave City boy by himself, even if nothing finds him, I doubt he'll be able to find the camp again." He has a cheeky grin on his face, "Seriously though, you and Akala should try and find the ones that have got Firestorm. As this is the route to the Giant Finger Holes, maybe Hoskar and me would be better off finding somewhere to wait until you come back this way tomorrow, that way Kor can rest up, it seems cruel to make him walk to the camp then back this way. We can keep in touch through Four Paws, once we are settled in we'll be harder to find than if we are slowly walking along."

Amara looked pained "I was going to ask if you could remain with Hoskar. It is good that you are willing to. It is not my wish to do this, but Akala and I are strong fighters. We might make a difference even if there are only two of us." Amara smiled at both Melock and hoskar "Try to get back as quickly as you can. There is some safety in being back with the main group."

Tapping Thunderfoot behind his ear, Amara urged her rhino to move more quickly in the hope they could rescue Tarnessh. She resolved at the next battle to have Ohanzee and Tarnessh stand behind everyone.

He looks around the camp again, to gauge how the Blue Llamas and Agimori are faring in repelling the attack.

"I just came from there, it seems we have gained strong allies in the Men and a Half. They have routed the enemy. Go find your brother."

As they ride off the two Rangers spy Delenda supporting a limping Salen and clambering over a pile of dead foes. Both are covered from head to toe in blood. Their mounts are nowhere to be seen, and they don't look up for a night time pursuit.

Akala only looked on mutely as the others decided the next course of action, occasionally grunting in agreement.

Before departing, he sadi to Melock and Hoskar, "Be safe brothers."

He then put his heels to Thundercloud's flank, attempting to keep up with Amara.

He made a mental note that he would need to search scorpion men in the morning to attempt to find an antidote like the one Hoskar had found, even if it were only half effective so long after being stung.

The Big Brave also kept his eyes open.  At the first sight of trouble he would need to speak his endurance charm, as he could feel that he was suffering substantial ill from the effects of the poison.

He takes the bag back and sighs, "I didn't think you would need an incentive to look for me, I would have thought the loneliness of your heart when I'm not around would drive you to find me" He chuckles, and though he tries to hide it, there's a look of fear and worry in his eyes. "Ride like the wind and hit like a lightning bolt my sister" He turns to Akala, "Ride like the wind and hit like an angry rhino my brother" he looks across to Hoskar, "Time to find a nice little rock out crop and blend in to the back ground" He looks thoughtfully at the dead scorpion men.

"My thanks, Cantalas."  Given the Blue Llama's anger about Ohanzee, it's best to show gratitude.

"Aye," Kobal nods.  He sends to Haaro: You'd better come along.  I don't know how far we may need to travel to find Tarnessh.  And get Tulox to come along.  We'll need the spirit to direct us to my brother.

GM:

Kobal stopped briefly by the two.  "Bravely done, Delenda, our thanks for your help.  We won't forget it.  Salen, I hope Kohana is all right."  He checks also to see if either brave needs any healing, before riding on in the direction guided by Tulox.

Searching for Tarnessh from the West

Kobal and Henal ride off, receiving as they do a message via Tulox saying that Tarnessh is alive, but with Scorpion men. The Hawk estimates that he's some 500 metres to the South East of where they are.

It's pitch black and the Braves will need some sort of illumination or must rely on their Manul cats to guide them. The former would mean that they can travel quicker but will likely be spotted, whilst the latter means they must travel slower but in a clandestine fashion.

Searching for Tarnessh from the East

Akala and Amara face much the same problem but also have no idea how to find where Tarnessh might be. It's a wide open, and incredibly dark space, possibly filled with Scorpion Men.
