I think Tarnessh can stop the bleeding on Ohanzee, it seems to be a flesh wound.

Just a 5% increase. You get an automatic ride increase of 5%, so no need to roll that one. Don't forget to roll for your thunderbird spirit's POW. If you haven't a tick for speak Praxian/Spirit speech or Earth tongue give yourself one.

Under the spirits section for Cactus there's a note saying he told the crew to contact him in Disorder week/Fire season. I assume that was from the time of the fight with the chaos cactus before Ohanzee met everyone.

Melock is hunting for her tonight, does he have the same rolls? He'll be using disrupt :)

Give me a survival roll for each species you want to hunt and 4 pow rolls. Obviously it will get harder for each animal.

Not sure about this. In the past the Rangers have split any beasts acquired (as a group, personal raiding is different) between the group rather than keeping a collective herd. Since the group consists of members of 3 bison riding clans and 1 rhino riding clan then the bison will be more value to all but the rhino riders. Even amongst the rhino riders (except the red turncoat) bison might be considered more valuable as our clan is riding with bison riders and bison are more valuable to them so to us more likely to be useful in trades or to impress, maybe even to attract a bison woman and cement the ties between the clans/tribes.

Obviously his prospects just took a huge up l-tick due to the Bison herd, so he would probably be malleable to suggestions, but he's probably gonna at least need some pack animals in exchange...and he'd rather not exchange the Sables.

There is something symbolic about using the Sables as Pack animals that is... Rewarding after Moonbroth. :)

I'm not sure about it either.  I didn't want to drag out the issue though, since Canatalas has raised it before (I should've discussed with everyone before), so I decided to make an executive decision.  I decided to take a middle path of offering a few sable so that if anyone does want a sable, we can sort it out later.  When Cantalas first made the offer, no one really voiced an opinion except Amara.

My thinking was:
- bison riders naturally prefer bison; but
- we just nabbed a herd of bison (more than 6 bison for each member of the Wandering Rangers, excluding Greeshar);
- part of being a brave is raiding other clans and taking their stock, so the more types of beasts the Rangers have, their more their standing will increase as proof of their prowess;
- as Akala mentioned, amongst our group, there'd be some satisfaction have the animals of those who defeated us at Moonbroth.

If you guys would prefer a different deal, let me know and I could edit my post.

I've no problem with you making the decision and you can palm them off on Amara and Alkala, but what I'm saying is the other bison rider Rangers, Nixa, Sand Fox will likely take offence if you try to offload one on them. It's cool anyway as even that makes for nice RP later :)

Don't forget we have 30+ Sables to collect later, 30 for here and was it 4 for the messenger, memory hazy?

Kobal will be happy to take some if no one else wants them.  His family is well off, they're not in need of more bison (though the brave himself should start to think of growing his own herd).

I'm "odd man out" here (not for the first time) - more a trader than a herder thanks to the back-history.

To Hoskar, unless it's a rhino it's "goods"; just a rather special sort of "goods" that moves around by itself, needs feeding, and comes with covenant responsibility issues. Okay, so he's working through assorted issues about sables, but right now that means him keeping his head down on the matter.

So I'm happy with just about anything that doesn't involve us getting 'tyried along the way.

Nomads prefer to eat the beasts of other Tribes before their own.

Perhaps Cantalas has another motive for wanting the Sables. They certainly have less meat than a Bison.

Henal will prefer to keep bison rather than sables, particularly as he kept falling off while trying to ride the damn things.

When we found some rhinos, I thought the rhino riders took one or two each as personal gains. I've no problems with the bison riders taking personal animals here. Up till we got the rhinos we gifted most of the beasts we captured away.

I was in two minds OOC how to handle this and at least half tempted to go in for a spot of covert detective work; but as usual you're right: if nothing else there's a danger that if something happens and Cantalas didn't know in advance he might think I was being "Dealer McDope" on the sly.
You gave me the nudge I needed to think up a way of raising it without going in saying "I think a Blue Llama's nicked my weed". For which I'm grateful. :)

It makes sense. In most cases I imagine people would be interacting within their close-knit community so they would have an idea of what the NPC would be interested in. For a hypothetical example, if Ohanzee was talking to Bill the blacksmith, who has lived in the same village as Ohanzee since they were kids, then Ohanzee would already know the kinds of things that Bill would want/need.

However, we're the wandering rangers. So by our very nature, we're going to often be interacting with people on a short-term basis and not really know them as well.

I think you'd know whats worth what across the clans and tribe(s), just from being a nomad. I'd prefer you lot to confidently go "It's worth XX" and I'll go along with it :)

Your everyday lifestyles are practically identical across the board out here, give or take some ceremonies, spirits worshipped etc.

I dob't see why not. this would be something a shaman could do with ease and as Enapay is friendly why not. Just remember if your new familiar dies you bound spirit leaves.

Sorry if my posts today are weird or seem kinda irritated. The truth is that I take medication for ADD and Depression, and I ran out of the stimulant that stops ADD (as well as a host of other issues due to co-morbid disorders that are really fascinating to talk about, at least to me, but would take a loooong time to explain.) Now I've got replacements coming, but when I'm off those meds, I get very drowsy and feel crappy.

Fortunately, I was brought up with a family that was up-front about what I suffer from, so I know that my irritability is the result of some brain chemistry imbalances, rather then how I actually feel.

So yeah, that stuff with Tarnessh feeling sore about the Agimori ignoring him is uhhhh...kinda how I feel today, but makes more sense with Tarnessh because he's a 15 year old teenager who has gone on a ton of adventures that made him feel like he's going to be the Chief of his own clan TOMORROW! : O But then he meets those warriors and it kinda puts into perspective that he's still not a full adult yet in practical terms.

Also I think that Tarnessh is naturally kinda pouty when things don't go his way or people don't immediately understand what he means the way he wants it. It's a character flaw that will hopefully go away as Tarnessh gets older and wiser ; )

Oh I definitely agree that everyone out there has their own story. I wasn't complaining about how Tarnessh was treated at all. I mean even in our real-world culture which is based way less on having to show strength all the time, someone doing what Tarnessh did would probably be ignored or just kinda dismissed at best.

My plan is to Farsee up Melock (and me/Amara/ anyone else hunting too if the night's bright enough) and follow Melock's search lead (would a Raven know where another Raven might go?) while casting relevant detects/using relevant senses. Wish I had detect life really.

Hoskar is assuming Ohanzee is in the "missing" category not the "absconded" category.

What do you intent do if you find him? Cantalas said he's not welcome. Amara and Hoskar have calmed Cantalas down enough that he won't kill him, but he won't travel with him.

It's a bit late now, but gifting is a big part of your nomad life and easing little problems.

I'm going to wait and see what the other pcs plan to do. Cantalas will move his people at dawn, and isn't in the mood to look after your herd and belongings.

I intend to give him a good tongue lashing for being a moron.
But I guess I would ride with him to the GFH ahead of the others.
his punishment would be having to listen to me yell at him the entire trip.

Sorry, with a number of things happening between my posts, it gets a bit confusing as to the order of events.

I didn't know where we would find the rhino tracks.  So Kobal's intention was to re-trace his steps back to the camp and then get on Black Hoof.  Kobal wouldn't have ignored Cantalas question.  I'll try to work up a response that meshes with what's been posted.

Not as bad as Eurmal, Raven is a darkness spirit with trickster aspects.

Trickster in Prax appears under many guises: Jackrabbit, Racoon to name a couple.

I'm going along mainly to try and assure Cantalas that johnny Raven ain't up to more tricks with someone he's met before in the search party. I expect to be pretty darn useless out there in the dark unless any special Condor stuff comes into play.
I do not intend to be out till morning: the last time we annoyed a powerful chap he legged it with our mounts.

Out of game warning:

I may well be a bit abstracted and/or brief for the next 5-6 weeks: looks as if we're moving house so a lot of what might usually be my game time will be taken up by organising real-life crap. I'll try to stay whimsical and engaged, but proactive things like stories, maps etc. are likely to be on hold awhile.

You know, Ohanzee has to rank there as at least my joint favourite character with the Enol turned Uz :)

Cold houses is something I do not miss. I have never been so warm (apart from when i lived in Australia obviously) since moving to Finland. The houses are a toasty joy. My mum who lives in Dublin is always remarking on Skype, how in the depths of winter my kids would be running around naked in the background. Outside -36, inside 25+ with heated flooring in the bathroom...Yum. We get our heating (and boiling hot tap water) via hot water pumped from a local power station in underground pipes. No stupid gas water heaters here.

We moved into our current place about 3 years ago, Spetember in fact. The first winter was bitter. The place has a token scattering of vericulite in the roof and an ancient oil fired boiler (no gas to the property) that kept cutting out and having to be restarted. Over teh course of the following year we had the wall cavities insulated, the roof done properly and replaced the boiler with an air source heat pump. We also had a log stove put in to replace the electric fire in the sitting room.

Now it is bliss, the ASHP runs continuously as it is far more effiicient to maintain a temperature than to heat up to it so there are no longer the cold times at night when the central heating is off. The place keeps the heat in so much better to, the energy efficiency rating has gone up from F to C. We still light the stove in the winter and when we do so end up too hot in there :P

IC wise there's been some editing etc. Akala, Henal is 5km away, though he has just relayed a message vis his cat to Four Paws and thus to Hoskar so you can still reply to him, via the chain of spirits.

Love the cut scenes. Most intriguing and somewhat unnerving!

Our Hares turn white in Winter. I live 2km from the city centre and they're every where. Same when I lived in Ireland.

In this part of the world, we built three fences across the State to keep them out. Longest fence in the world.

PM duly noted. No worries on the house - we'll fiund something.

In addition to my IC, I'll cast detect enemies provided I understand aright that it won't alert our ambushers they're being detected...unless of course one of them has "Detect Detection" up, which is a chance I'm willing to take - it's a rare spell.

Come to think of it, I don't think I've ever known "Detect Detection" as a PC. Has anyone else found it handy to have as a PC?

Whoops - forgot to post melee plans.

Weapons: lance and shield (too dark for me to see to sling); sword if lance lost.

Spells: Countermagic, Strength; Det Enemies (see above for conditionality)

Plan: charge through and regroup; riding down anyone in the way courtesy of being mounted on a nice big rhino; let enemies lie and get away unless Det Enemies suggests we're not badly outnumbered here. All of this is "unless another PC has and conveys a better idea".

Not sure who I thought the cut scene was, but scorpionmen wasn't on the list at all.

Oh hell. Always nervy fighting scorpionmen. Dusted off an old 75%ish duck character of mine about a month back and thought I'd see how he fared in Scorpion Hall. Fell to the first hunter. Kept doing the odd point of damage darting round the foe, but one tail stinger penetration and it was very much "over" for the fellow with the beak and feathers. Decent armour he had too: those stings pack a punch.

Will definitiely have "strength" cast and will definitely be more interested in parrying the stinger than any hand weapon: the latter might be poisoned, the former is undoubtedly poisoned.
I'm still all for charging them down and regrouping: need to use the Rhinos to good effect I reckon - another of those situations where I want to see chaos get hit with a horn then trampled...before I end up on their supper menu.

PS/edit:

You're charging the biggest one on a bison when there's three people on rhinos with you, Melock? It's impressively brave, but I kind of think you're off your onion. :)

Hoskar knows there are 3 SM on either side.

The boulders on either side of the path are to thick to ride through but you'l trap the SM on them.

You have time for a spell yes. The others no. Well anyone can try and cast a spell but the Scorpion men will be on them as they're casting.

Amara and Akala have only time to turn and meet the charge.

Of course. The scorpion men are kind of focused on killing at the moment and there's a downed Rhino and a rider on foot to tempt them. I'll see what the dice say.

Saw my rhino was down courtesy of my "dumbphone" and just had to pop to the library to post something. I can do bog-all about the venom, but at least I can heal the HP damage...hopefully before fate in the guise of the GM readjusts Kor's HP and makes him one dead rhino.

The problem with trying to threaten a lot of Chaos beings is that they HATE their existence, so there's not much to really threaten them with : \

I'd reccommend sourcing some varied antidotes from somewhere.
Thundrbirds could try and learn Treat Poison from someone.

Perhaps there's an animal or plant spirit that could help?

Lance in one hand, shield on the other.
If he has time before contact, he'll cast Protection 2 on Black Hoof, then (if there's still time) Binding on the scorpion man target.
He'll direct Black Hoof to butt, rather than trample.
Once distance is too short to use the lance, he'll switch to sword and shield.
If he defeats his opponent he'll help out any of his companions, or heal or cast protection on anyone in need.

You and Henal are a 5 minute ride from the camp.

No need for a ride roll. It's pitch black and you will be fighting at -75%. The two High llama braves have torches but they can't fight and hold them.

I've been quite lenient with the use of torches so far, if holding them you can't parry properly with a shield or use two handed weapons.

Obviously Amara can't fight whilst holding one.

Kobal and Salen back at the camp have no problems thanks to the large fires.

Henal and Tarnessh rode into that mob of Scorpion men because they didn't see them.

If only somebody had a light spell....

You could ride around the group between you and the camp or Tarnessh could cast a light wall .

No unfortunately. You need treat poison skill. First aid stops bleeding, wakes someone unconcious and on a special  heals 1hp and on a crit 2hp.

A few close calls there in the combats, with folk just making parries or protection spells preventing stingers going through.

Amara, Akala, Hoskar and Melock are still a long way off, though they now know that the camp is being attacked.
Kor can't walk.

Tarnessh is unconscious and being carried off for dinner. Henal doesn't know if he's dead or alive. Henal you have lost your lance.

Kobal and Salen have a choice to either ride off and help the Agimori or intervene in some of the smaller fights nearer to them.

Tulox will alert spirits in the vicinity (Mordy or Haaro) that Tulox is unconscious but not what's happened to him as he's in the camp and can't see.


I will update hp's etc in a while as I have to go out.

You all realise that the scorpion men though legion have low attack ratings and for those of you with high defence it makes it very hard for them to hit. They are mainly trying to sting your mounts.

Tarnessh and Ohanzee...could you guys stop getting kidnapped?

These little instances are where I try and avoid senseless and unnecessary character death. Turning a killing blow into a knockout and take away dinner instead.

I'd rather that if and when your character dies it means something, you have a say in it and it will be remembered for generations to come. Those days of multiple RQ deaths (sometimes per session) are way over for me.

I suppose this would be where a Hero point or Benny would be spent if we used them. Ohanzee being saved by Kinope is another recent example.

Once you lot gain the chance for divine intervention the stakes will of course chance somewhat.

I haven't the foggiest what the gourd is. Made all the relevant rolls I can think of:

...so unless there's some form of marking on the gourd I can "Evaluate" I think it's a "feed it to Kor on spec" job - he's dead on his own (smell of a downed animal in the night is bound to attract something hungry), I'm dead with him if I stay alone (much the same reason), and we can't all stay here and not ride back to the camp to help - one rhino versus the safety of everyone isn't a difficult choice for anyone (other than Hoskar) that I can think of.

How far apart can spirits communicate?  If Haaro learns that Tarnessh is unconscious, can Haaro then communicate with Henal's Rikki to find out where they are?

Not sure Kobal would head off toward Tarnessh and Henal in any event, since the camp is under attack.

Unfortunately you have no way of contacting Rikki as Tarnessh would be needed in the link. Your spirit can speak to you over 5km's or to other spirits within their POW as Melock mentioned.

So yesterday i rolled on the treasure factor chart and got a poison antidote, which made me laugh. Now seeing as I'm a kind hearted soul I gave Hoskar a basic 5% at Taste Analysis which comes out at 10% with your natural bonus. I just rolled my awesome 1d10 and got 07%. I should have filmed it.

So you can edit your post, knowing that you have in you hand an antidote. Hoskar you can roll it's potency 1d20.

You originally rode through a large group on their way to attack the camp, not really seeing how many as it was pretty dark with just two torches. When you rode through them they turned to follow you, which you couldn't see due to it being dark.

Then Tarnessh decided to attack them, he cast a Lightwall ( it can only be moved at 3m a round so I had him cast it at a point where he judged the scorpion men to be, instead of it moving a head of him like he posted).

It was only when you were on top of them that you saw how many there were. I was keeping it vague as it's the middle of night and you lot are running around in the pitch dark :)

In honesty, that's the view I was expecting everyone but Hoskar to have. I'm touched Akala and Melock want to stay with Kor and me, but I'm not going to throw the toys out of the pram if I end up limping back alone...or snuffing it while trying to.

Amara and co can work out that if they wish to go after Tarnessh they will need to shift it if they want to save him. They're 4 km from the camp and where he vanished.

Melock wont leave Hoskar, I think with Raven and Condor magics they should be able to hide from trouble. I agree that the camp needs help and Amara and Akala will make a difference if they go.

And if they get there in pitch black without breaking a mount's leg on the uneven ground before it's all over *bites finger nails*. It's times like these you could do with airborne mounts!

Hmmm... the spirit world touches everywhere yet mundane distances are meaningless in the spirit world.

So maybe you could open a portal to the spirit world and ride into it. The familiars at the other end (camp) could act as anchors or guides to take you there. Instant wyrmhole.

Let's not consider the possible encounters on the spirit plane though :(
