"Do the feathers on the arrows show which clan they came from?" Henal asks as he moves away from Bubbles' body to let the Vingans perform their own rites.

Her face red with grief and anger the implala brave spits out an answer "Aye Rock Leapers...It's fecking Angry Wasp's mob. No doubt settling scores....."

"Stupid bastard" screams Golden Eye, Angry Wasp's wife...Ex wife...

"Let's go kill him!" and with that the girls mount up and charge towards the ridge, where Ohanzee, Melock and also Salen now stand atop.

Re: Homewards, ghost hunting and ancient ruins...

On the ridge

Salen arrives to join Melock and Ohanzee, his Bison grunting with the exertion of climbing the steep ridge, with Mordy and the new dogs at his heels. Looking down the other side the three braves see that there's a dense area of vegetation and trees nestled between several stout and short Mesas. Nothing moves but something doesn't feel right.

"Smells bad to me. They want us to charge in." Ohanzee says then hearing the Vingans charging up the slope as he slips from his rhino to stand on the Earth he warns them "Beware. Ambush!"

Holding tight to his mount so he can vault back on he concentrates a moment as his feet touch the Earth.

With the Herd

Tarnessh dismounts and kneels down by the dead Vingan. Once there he begins to prepare her body, removing the arrow and composing her body as best he can.

"Hoskar, will you help me? I presume that the others will want to burn her somewhere later. We could carry her on one of the spare Bison."

Re: Homewards, ghost hunting and ancient ruins...

On the ridge

The Vingans arrive in a cloud of dust, their mounts leaping and bounding up the steep sided ridge. Reining in next to the Rangers they stare down at the dense vegetation.

"They in there?" asks one, whilst another casts a detection spell that comes back positive.

"Aye they are. Let's get stuck in."

Ohanzee is suddenly overcome by a bout of dizziness as he fails to connect with the Earth...

Up Above

Talon suddenly dives back down to his master's saddle, leaving behind a puff of feathers, the result of a near miss by an arrow which had literally come out of nowhere.

Looking up from grisly remains, face solemn. Aye, Tarnessh: that I will. I know little of Vinga's way, but they're of the wind and have that in common with my god.

Treating the mortal remains of their companion with as much careful respect as he can, troubling not to heal his own slight wound as yet some things matter, some less so he sings softly as the sorrowful work commences.

Hail, Bubbles; protecting wind
Rode out strong to only find
Death at the hand of another.

Hail, Issaries guide for the wind
Sojourning strong to only guide
Souls to the wind as brother.

Vinga protect and Issaries guide
Sister safe home whate'er else betide
Live on in the heart of the wind.

Henal rides up in the Vingans wake and looks down into the valley. He mutters a spell of protection as he looks about trying to judge where the ambushers lurk.

The Thunder Girls attitude is catching, that and the fact that he doesn't want to seem overly cautious in front of these women, so after a moment to steady himself he vaults back onto his rhino "Let's do this then!" he says and readies lance and shield, whilst concentrating a charm on himself "Let's circle them in. Don't suppose anyone can speed up my ride or slow them?"

"Lets get them." Melock casts a quick couple of charms to protect his skin and to sharpen his lance. He makes sure he's alongside Ohanzee when they plow through the undergrowth.

Re: Homewards, ghost hunting and ancient ruins...

On the Ridge

There's a flurry of charms getting cast, mainly mobility and various protections, then with a cheer the group descends the back slope, the Vingans circling around to trap any Rock Leapers trying to escape, whilst the Rangers power into the vegetation, behind the bellowing Wihakayda and his rider Ohanzee.

There's the flick and sting of branches as they slap into the braves, their mounts smashing through the scrub, trampling bushes and knocking aside small trees, and then they're in...

A small clearing, with sunlight shining down on a collection of boulders surrounding an excavated hole, surrounded by stout tree trunks carved into fierce looking totems hung with a collection of grisly tokens...

Emerging from the hole to join their half dozen brethren already above ground, are two fully grown scorpion men, well armed and prepared for conflict. There's the hum of suppressed magic and with a roar they counter charge...

Voras looks up from where he's been tending to Talon at the sound of the charge beginning atop the ridge.  He wheels Wanderer about, weaving a charm of protection about himself as he does so.  He calls to Talon, "Try to fly up above bowshot.  You won't be able to see quite as well from up there, but I don't like the smell of this and I want to be able to see any further ambushes."

He lets out an oath as he crests the ridge and sees his companions about to engage the scorpion men.  Casting another charm to sharpen his spear, he charges towards the thicket below.

Re: Homewards, ghost hunting and ancient ruins...

Back with the Herd

Those left behind can hear the loud whoops of their companions as they ride out of view, and it looks as if they'll have to work hard to keep the herd together, the Bisons seemingly restless after the ambush and loud noises from beyond the ridge.

Kobal has just turned to his wife who had been joined by Whispers, when the shaman's face shows a look of surprise, quickly followed by confusion and then finally shock as she slips sideways off her Rhino and on to the ground, an arrow jutting from her back...

Then the ambushers are amongst them, bounding and leaping between the herd, firing arrows as they cut off a section of the Bisons intent on leading them away.

They've come from the north, obviously slipping around the mesas and vegetation to get around the back of the group....

Ten braves in all, magically fast and laying down withering fire from charmed bows.

Too late to do anything but continue the charge through Ohanzee calls out both to alert those outside the brush and to bolster the nerve of those inside "CHAOS!" "For the Green!"

Waha's Beard!  I told the others to keep the impala riders away from the herd!

Haaro, tell the others' spirits that we're under attack.  10 impala.  They're stealing the herd.  Whispers is down.

"Ambush!" he yells as loud as he can, while he turns Black Hoof around.

"Lord Emesh-Ga, we need your help!"

Tarnessh dives for cover as an Impala leaps over Hoskar and himself, an arrow left quivering in the sand between them both. The attack comes to a halt several metres away levelling his bow at Kobal's back.

Pulling up next to his companion, Greeshar grins and levels his lance.

"Shall we?"

Several Impalas have already broken away with six Bison under their control, for he moment their speed checked by their stolen beasts.

Re: Homewards, ghost hunting and ancient ruins...

Charge!

Thanks to Salen's castings of Mobility the Rangers burst through the Scorpionmen, lances thrusting, pincers snapping and deadly stingers stinging.

Most likely due to the speed of the charge few hits are made, with Melock leaving his lance behind, impaled in a now twitching chaos creature's throat. Both Voras and Henal's Bisons are bleeding from minor wounds, but by all accounts everyone looks okay. Wheeling around the Rangers take stock of the situation...

Seven Scorpionmen, some wounded, stand before them, now bunching together in one large group ready for the next charge...

Charge!

Panting like one of Salen's dogs and flushed with excitement, Melock looks round at the others, "I can't charge again, so lets pelt them with javelins before you guys go again." He charms his javelin to hit harder and then tjrows it at the biggest foe he can see.

Charge

Henal takes up a javelin and throws it at the closest scorpion man before changing back to his lance to charge again. Thin them down some.more before we charge them.
