Re: It's a long, long way to Pavis city....

Amara nudged her zebra to join the line at Angelikas's side. "How likely is it do you think that the red thorns will fight? They're significantly outnumbered. Not just two clans coming at them, but three. I think it more likely a peacable negotiation will see everyone on their way with the minimal of fuss." she turned to talk to Angelika in her own tongue. "How do you see things going? We have red thorn friends and rangers that we would prefer to see unharmed. This whole thing could have a big effect on how the rangers are seen."

"With the aid of Vinga pathfinder and Condor it should take three weeks via the secret pathways, bar any unforeseen troubles. We will skirt the Southern Copper Sands, and the Northern Bleak Hills. Then via the Painted Wall we will take the high valley sides, passing Sun County below and then through Garhound land, as long as Davis remembers his debts to me."

"Maybe. Though with it taken by trolls we may need the help of the other... darker Rangers."

"We're travelling to Pavis. It is likely that the trolls that took your eye are in the Big Rubble. We will no doubt be able to recover it....with some care." Amara commented.

Ohanzee sits on his zebra mount, having chosen a black beast with white stripes rather than the normal white mounts with black stripes that the others on similar mounts have chosen.

Henal rides his unfamiliar zebra as well as he can, though he looks less comfortable on this smaller beast. He rides in his usual position on the right flank of the group keeping watch around them.

"Hope that raid turns into a show of strength not a battle. Too much fighting amongst the tribes will only aid the lunars and chaos".

Kobal rides up alongside Voras and Temush.  "It's good that both of you have recovered."  He turns to Voras.  "We'll take back the Eye.  Be sure of it."  Looking back to both of them, he says "But tell me about the dark folk.  I've never see a troll before."

"Aye," says Kobal, trying not to smile at the sight of Henal on a zebra.  "At first, I figured that this would just be a like any other raid, and didn't think much of it.  But this is different.  This is not taking some animals, or slaves, or goods.  This may be able trying to push the Red Thorns out of the oasis.  The fighting might be more prolonged, and fiercer."

Re: It's a long, long way to Pavis city....

The first dayfinds the party passing the Second Age Trading post, which is pointed out to Telmush, before they go to join the war party some distance away.

It's as dusk comes that Salen, Kobal and Temush spot the pack of hyenas following them. In their midst is a particularly large one.

From where the Rangers are the fires of the war party can be seen about a km to the North, nestled below a rocky ridge.

Riding at the back of the group, Kobal warns the rest of the party about the hyenas, both by voice, and by asking Haaro to pass the message to other familiars.  He calls Melock and Ohanzee over in particular, "You Ravens might be best suited to dealing with Hyena."

"One of the familiars should give word to the war party as well.  Lest a mount or two go missing in the night."  He checks that his weapons and shield are ready, and shakes out his arms to loosen them.

Re: It's a long, long way to Pavis city....

Noting the way Kobal readies his weapons Ohanzee responds "There's no need for that, I sensed them, that the leader wants to talk to me." though it is clear that he hadn't actually seen the beasts.

With that he dismounts his zebra, not wanting to have to control an unfamiliar mount that might panic with so many predators about, and he moves off on foot in the indicated direction.

The largest of the Hyenas breaks away from he pack and comes to stand before the Raven brave, then sitting on it's haunches it begins to speak.

Unless the other Rangers move closer they will not hear what is said.

Melock dismounts as well and joins Ohanzee and the hyena. He looks round to see if any of the other hyenas or Rangers are joining them.

Henal watches the Raven braves go to deal with the Hyena, but keeps watch around them too. "Be a good time for enemies to attack if we get too distracted with those beasts. Hopefully they are still remembering fighting with us against the broo".

"Someone better keep an eye on them, or an ear...or both."

Having spotted the hyenas approach, and remembering the terrible terrible herb he smoked from the hyena shaman last time, Salen still thinks its a good idea to follow the two Ravens. He stands beside Melock, saying nothing.

Ohanzee nods at the large hyena and then turns and walks back to the others and his waiting zebra. As he mounts up he reports to Angelika Snowspear "We will have company for a good portion of our journey, until we near Pavis or at least until they tire of tagging along."

"They are the same pack that answered my call and fought alongside us to rid the trading post of the broo."

"They'll not act against us so long as none act against them and their senses will be most useful in the night."

He watches the hyena leave, then heads for Angelika, "We're likely to have more company than that, I spotted a harpy just as Bright Treasure was leaving us, heading towards the Earth Temple." He mounts up and rides alongside Kobal, and with a quick glance round to make sure Angelika can't over hear him, "Emesh-Ga, how close do you have to be to Hoskar to talk to him?"

Amara made a dismissive gesture at Ohanzee "The hyena were useful at the fight, but they only sow discord and snatch at our heels at every step. That shaman has probably been following us from the day we were made braves." she gestured towards Melock with her head "That Hyena shaman is like Melock. Only with us for his own purposes, does his own thing no matter the hurt or strife caused."

"Can't say I trust Hyenas too far, but at least these fought chaos with us. We'd better stay away from the war party when we camp if they are following us or else I can see braves trying to drive them off away from their beasts and causing a big fight we don't need."

Henal steadies his unfamiliar zebra, continuing.

"Just hope the hyenas don't get too close as their smell might unsettle our mounts and I'm not used to riding this thing."

A separate camp is made, luckily sheltering from the strong, cold wind now blowing from the North. The Hyenas keep their distance and soon with the Sun Hawks' magic there are dung fires burning and food cooking...

Re: It's a long, long way to Pavis city....

Ohanzee helps out with the camp preparations though leaves the Sun Hawk followers to sort the fires with his altered runic association no more disposed towards the element than former association and all of this unaided by the season.

"I'm going to go see my friends after the camp is set and I'll keep a watch through the middle portion of the night with them."
