It's a long, long way to Pavis city....

The Final few days of Dark Season.

Training has come to an end and the Wandering Rangers have begun to make their preparations to escort the Skywatcher's queen to Pavis and then the Pairing Stones. Surprisingly Angelika has said that she will provide Zebras to ride if the braves wanted as she planned to try and be as inconspicuous as possible. A large party of heavily armed Bison and Rhino riders would certainly attract attention. That said she says she will not order anyone to give up their mounts for the trip.

Also ready is the large war party made up of the toughest braves of the two Bison Clans. Angelika says that she and her escorts will travel in their wake, and though planning on stopping at the Giant Finger Holes to pay respect and pick up Hoskar, the Wandering Rangers will not be allowed to take part in the raid.

Temush accepts the loan of a Zebra for the trip and asks that Dust flies high and Yasha take care of his ostriches (which may be inclined to lay eggs in dark/storm seasons). He can give the tribe some salt as recompense for the extra workload.

Amara also chooses a zebra for the trip, though she's sad to be leaving her mounts behind. She makes sure the clan will look after them by promising good things to whoever will look after her herd.

To not appear obvious is very much the Condor way, and Salen happily takes the offer of a Zebra for the trip. Kohana won't be happy but the big bugger would just have to like it and lump it. Mordy will of course be along for the fun, because what is one more scabby dog in a hole like Pavis (is rumoured to be)?

Kobal gives his apology to Angelika.  "Thank you for the offer, but if we are to be your escorts, I would be more effective (and more comfortable) on my bison.  I hope this causes no trouble for the party."

He had hoped to drive at least some of the bison herd he had received as part of Jella's dowry back to the Red Thorns as a result of his genuine remorse over her death, but with a raid planned, it would be bad timing to deal with the issue.  Further, the rhino clan queen was hoping for an inconspicuous traveling party, and a herd of bison would not fit that plan.

Melock nods when he hears Kobal's words, "I'm glad I'm not the only one who would rather ride his bison, than something that could easily be a painted horse."

Amara snorted, trying not to laugh "You didn't have that problem or reservation when trying to ride a horse with a pointy head."

He shakes his head while smiling, "Even I know horses don't have a horn in the middle of their head, but other than the stripes there's not much difference between a horse and a zebra."

After a couple of unscheduled zebra dismounts, Temush reappears riding Stomp, with Slide and Glide packing trail panniers.

"What?" says Kobal, overhearing.  "First you ride a unicorn.  Then you claim there's 'not much difference between a horse and a zebra'.  The difference is a chasm - one is a beast of Waha, the other is a beast of the enemies of Waha.  The zebra has better vision, a stronger kick, more aggression.  A fitting mount for a brave of the Dedra.  The horse is a broken animal.  How can you not see the difference?  You've been spending too much time with Hoskar and his foreign ways and thoughts, haha."

Re: It's a long, long way to Pavis city....

"I will ride a zebra, but I will use one from my personal herd that I captured before we set out on our mission. It will feel odd not to be on a bison, but if we want to be less visible to the Lunars then better not to be riding what they expect us to." Henal replies.

"Not surprised that a Raven would end up with odd thoughts like that particularly after riding a taboo beast. I'm surprised that nothing bad has happened to Melock from that little venture."

In reply to Henal Longgrass (msg # 12):

He turns to face Henal, having been looking at a clump of bushes and rubs his temples, "The only bad thing that's happened is that its given everyone another reason to moan at me." His tone is a quite sharp, as if he has other things on his mind.

Re: It's a long, long way to Pavis city....

The preparations are halted as news spreads of what had happened the day before at the Sun Hawk celebrations. Darkness heroquestors had attacked the rituals and though beaten off they had stolen Voras' Eye Of Yamsur.

Both he and Temush had been spiritually injured but thankfully any physical damages had been quickly healed. One of the attackers felled by Smokey Jojo's summoned lance of sunlight had turned out to be a Troll!

Re: It's a long, long way to Pavis city....

Sometime later

The war party begins to leave, led by the chieftains of all three clans and their various Khans....Several Bison Khans, one Light khan and a Sword Khan, each resplendent in their martial finery, bedecked in feathers, furs and surrounded by protective spirits. The shamans are there too, with Whispers On The Wind waving from their midst. Thankfully the Storm Khans and their followers are still out East, hero questing and hopefully vanquishing chaos.

Next come the warriors, serious married men and women, veterans of scores of battles, grim looks on their faces. In contrast the Braves who follow in their wake, galloping fast, jeer, shout and boast as they get ready to increase their notoriety...

Then all that is left are the Rangers, where sat amongst them on her fine Rhino is Angelika, Amara at her side.

Once the last brave passes she picks up her lance and motions for her escort to follow...

Re: It's a long, long way to Pavis city....

Sitting on Stinky, who isn't at the moment, Melock watches, the with a look of worry on his face, as the group of fighters goes past. He turns to the others, "Lets hope our fellow Rangers and friends at the Earth Temple stay out of everyone's way." He nudges Stinky to follow Angelika, "At least we won't get attacked on the way there." He looks skywards at the dust they are kicking up, "I wouldn't be surprised if Erish-El see's us coming, when we get closer and pays us a visit. Lets hope none of that lot" he gestures towards the war party in front of them, "attack her."
