Shaking his head, Melock smiles, "So, us Ravens are meant to keep out of trouble, but it's ok for the rest of you to steal from the locals?" he chuckles, "Lets hope neither me or Ohanzee have to rescue any of you."

Kobal makes a show of looking around.  "I don't see any trouble approaching.  These foreigners took this land from us.  They should happy that all we took were a few birds, instead of taking back the land."

Nodding on is rhino's back, weary from last might's exertions, Hoskar closes his eyes a moment and near-imperceptibly shakes his head.

A fair enough view, I am thinking he mutters before raising his voice to add best be stopping the hunt now. I for one am not wanting trouble should rumours of chicken thieving be catching up with us inside the walls.

Melock nods at Kobal's words, "I'm sure the locals are very pleased that this massive horde of nomads," he sweeps his arms wide to take in all of the Rangers, "decided to take a few chickens instead of driving them from their homes amd reclaiming our ancestors lands." Melock laughs loudly then points at Hoskar, "How tired are you Hoskar? To say that I, a Raven, have a fair point is almost the same as calling Amara ugly or Kobal a coward." he shrugs, "though as I'm not as easily offended as some I could mention, you'll have to try harder." Melock takes out his ocarina and starts playing a fast paced cheerful tune, though every so often he plays an out of tune note.

Melock might...or might not...discern a small twinkle in Hoskar's eye from behind drooping eyelids.
I am meaning Kobal on the fair enough this time. Think you might be knowing that, prankster.

With a brief wink to Hoskar, Melock plays two sour notes, one high, the other low and slows the tune down and turns the cheerful notes in to melancholy ones.

Ohanzee, who had been quietly riding pipes up "What you need Henal is a rousing tune on the pipes to blow the sand of sleep from your eyes!" offering to play the bagpipes to see them along on the trail.

With a wink, Hoskar forges on. Gotcha he chortles. True, though.

Won't rely on it too hard.

Re: It's a long, long way to Pavis city 2 ......

Windsday, Death Week, Dark Season

It's getting late and Hoskar knows that they're not going to make New Pavis before dark, and the likelihood of them opening the gates to a bunch of nomads is below zero...

At least they're on the right side of the river, for that means they can pass the big Rubble walls and hit Badside if they so wish, avoiding the bridge which would also be closed for the night.

Badside. The name says it all and not only dangerous it will be filled with Sable braves most likely.

All day the Wandering Rangers have been following tracks, which soon became the closest things to roads in this part of the world, winding their way through farmland dotted with settlements and fortress like steads. There's few travellers going the same way, but plenty enough going the opposite. Everyone watches the nomads warily and for the most part they are trailed by each settlements' mounted warriors, who make sure that the interlopers pass without trouble.

The weather is foul, with blustery cold winds buffeting the tired braves and the Dark season gloom hides the normally visible walls of Pavis from view. It's only when night falls that the lights from the city shine on the clouds above, revealing the gargantuan walls of the ancient city sprawling before it.

Immediately before the braves, a half mile distant, looms the Southern most wall of the Big Rubble, 25m high, a huge break in it showing as a dark shadow....

Troll Break.

Re: It's a long, long way to Pavis city 2 ......

Hoskar knows the Rangers are late indeed. Late. Late after all the hurrying. Oh horn and hide.

We are facing a nasty decision now he remarks. We have nowhere really that safe to lay our heads, and no way can I be staying awake much longer. I am having no sleep last night, after all.

Camp here, we risk raiders and whatever is emerging from that
he gestures at the breach in the old walls - Uz and whatnot. But press on and we are meeting as fine a set of of ne'er-do-wells as you are seeing this side of a Red Thorn party.

He yawns expressively, and shrugs. Plus Badside is teeming with Sables. Maybe not the time to be having to explain where our hostage isn't. His expression brightens momentarily, but his smile is weary. At least I am too tired to be worrying over whether the Sables are recognising me from the old, angry times.

If it was me, I would say we are safer here. Sleep in armour with a good guard. Not my call, though.

He lapses into silence, nodding as he sits atop Ram.

Hoskar knows that it is common for many adventuring types to camp outside the walls, along the river banks both South and North and on the outskirts of Badside.

What folks don't do is camp outside the Troll Break unless they wish to encounter Trolls or take part in the weekly market held there.

Ohanzee grins in the shadows "And if you want the opinion of another Raven then if we are not safe here or there then that is normal. We might as well press on, especially if staying here abouts is asking for encounters with Uz, given the recent events."

"I slept well last night, flew with Raven in my dream so I'm not too bad, and the Darkness hides no secrets from my eyes now. Besides, we have several sets of eyes that can pierce the night now."

Temush stretches and says I slept well last night too, though as our friend says, mine are not the best eyes to keep watch on the night. He looks towards Amara and Kobal to see where they favour spending the night.

Amara smirked "well, meeting a band of trolls might be one way of finding out where Delenda is." she shrugged after the statement "but Hoskar is the only one who knows anything about this place. I'd suggest we listen to him and follow his proposal."

Eyes half-closed, Hoskar smiles. Then his eyes jerk fully open. When I am saying camp here, I am not meaning so close to that gap, before anyone is getting the wrong idea. I am thinking a ways on, but out here.

It's decided, the Rangers move on, keeping the gigantic walls to their left as they search for a safe place to camp. The scrubland around the ancient city is dotted with fires of other folk doing the same and deciding to keep a safe distance the braves settle down to sleep.

Guards are posted, dinner eaten and all to soon dawn arrives...

"If you mean the Pyre brigade (apart from your own weird eyes), I don't trust them to do a thing if a mob of fearsome trolls suddenly appear.  Who do you think they would fear more?"
