Leveling Up

Provided you don't die a gruesome death, most/all of you will be experiencing the joys of leveling up in the near future.  Check the srd20 site for specific details on your advancement, then update your character sheet as appropriate.  Please don't be afraid to ask questions if you have any!

F.A.Q.

How do I handle my new HP?

You get a choice: either roll the hitdie associated with your new class, or just take half of that die.  Either way, you'll add your CON modifier to the result.  For example, if you gain a rank of Wizard, you can choose to gain 1d4 + CON, or you can choose to gain 2 + CON.  Note: If you choose to roll, you're stuck with the result - for better or for worse.

Sorry, I'm an idiot:  is there a specific section on the site concerning leveling?  We get a feat regaurdless of race/class right?

Re: Leveling Up

Feats are granted at 1,3,6,9,12,15, and 18. Some classes grant additional bonus feats beyond those, but they often are restricted to a sub-list of feats, and are based on class, not character, level.

Re: Leveling Up

In reply to Zuriel Silendril (msg # 3):

I'll walk you through it once you receive your level-up, Keef.  That'll probably be the most help.  And don't worry; the rules are as arcane and complex as any spell - there's no shame in raising your hand and yelling at the rulebook :P

The short answer is that what you get each level is largely determined by which class you rank up in, although there are a few instances where everyone gets the same thing (ie: the feats every three levels, and ability score increases periodically)

Multiclass in general is covered here, if you would like a reference point.

You gain a point of attribute (Str, Dex, etc.) at levels: 4, 8, 12, 16, and 20

From the d20 site it says Wizards gain the first bonus feat at 5th level... is this a bonus on top of the other feat gain?

Re: Leveling Up

Yes, but you're limited to a subset of the overall feat list for that level up. Also keep in mind that that is class level, not character level. So for example, if you were to take 1 level of Fighter between now and 5th level, than you wouldn't get that bonus feat until 6th level, at which point you would get a regular feat without restrictions and then also a bonus feat from the Wizard sublist.

I hate this dice roller. So much. It knows when the rolls are permanent.
