The Planes of Aeryis

Here is a collection of the known planes, as best as can be depicted using only two dimensions: https://docs.google.com/drawin...yNVFaZKW6BGVvgaJv1Ys

I will update more information about each individual plane shortly.

Re: The Planes of Aeryis

In reply to DM (msg # 1):

The following summaries of the planes have been divided up into three colors to indicate how well-known each passage is.  The key is below:

quote:
Common Knowledge
Known by the general populace.

Academic Knowledge
Known by those who have received a formal education at an accredited university.

Vocational Knowledge
Know to those who have dedicated their lives to the study of the planes -- perhaps even traveling to a few of them

Aeryis

To those who live there, "Aeryis" refers to "the universe and all it contains".  This is where the P.A.R.T.Y. lives. There are other planes out there, but those don't really matter to anyone except priests, magicians, and scientists.

The word can also be used to specifically refer to the Material Plane, which is distinct from two closely related "versions" of Aeryis, known as the Ethereal Plane and the Plane of Shadows. These are the only planes to which it is safe to travel, and "safe" is a generous term for the concept.

The preferred term is "Aeryis Prime", as it appears to be the hubcap to which the other planes are attached, like so many spokes on a wheel. This hub seems to share time and space with two closely related planes, the Aether and the Umbra.  These are connected to the Prime in a unique way that is still not fully understood, and it is suspected that perhaps similar "subplanes" exist on the other proper planes, as well.

***

Fey'driel

A fairy-tale world of pixies, giants, dryads, and other imaginary creatures.

The elves originated from this plane eons ago, but fled to Aeryis for reasons lost to memory.  The wild elves are said to have largely returned after their falling out with the Highborn at the dawn of recorded history.

It has continents and oceans, much like Aeryis does, but on a far smaller scale.  Traveling there is possible, but there are many dangers involved in traversing the land. Those who live there are territorial and aggressive, and do not speak common languages.

***

Astria

Magicians can somehow tap into this plane to bend physics to their will in Aeryis. It's all so much wibbley wobbley timey-whimy nonsense.

Members of the Twilight Order spend a great deal of their time on this plane, which is conducive to their research.  Magic flows easily here, but it is also home to a variety of dangerous magical creatures.

The Twilight Order is headquartered here, in a building known as the Observatory.  This keeps it neutral in most of Aeryis's political affiliations.  Their powerful anti-magic cells are linked to their headquarters through channels that cross the planes themselves.

***

The Celestial Heavens

The good gods live here, and the souls of good people go there.  It's paradise.

The good gods rule this plane in some way or another, but they are not as all-powerful there are they are on Aeryis.  The heavens are also home to strange and exotic creatures that can be quite dangerous.

There are segments of the Celestial Heavens that are impossible for the living to access.  At least, it has been impossible for those who travel to planes to do so in recorded history.

***

The Nine Hells

The bad gods live here, and the souls of bad people go there.  It's a frozen hellscape or a fiery inferno, depending on who you ask.

The evil gods rule this plane in some way or another, but they are not as all-powerful there are they are on Aeryis.  The hells are also home to strange and exotic creatures that can be quite dangerous.

There are segments of the Nine Hells that are impossible for the living to access.  At least, it has been impossible for those who travel to planes to do so in recorded history.

Feudo Raffica

Huh?

This plane has some affiliation with wind and air magic, and seems more aligned with the heavens than the hells.

This turbulent plane is difficult to travel without some kind of aerial contraption or magic.  There are floating land masses and avian civilizations, but since they are always moving around they are impossible to accurately map.

***

Incendiar

Whazzat?

This plane has some affiliation with heat and fire magic, and seems more aligned with the heavens than the hells.

This superheated plane is difficult to travel without protection.  There are cities built into the igneous rocks that surround pools of swirling magma, but it's so difficult to stay comfortable there that little is known about its people.

***

Regno Pietra

Huhwhat?

This plane has some affiliation with plant and earth magic, and seems more aligned with the hells than the heavens.

The sprawling mountains and crevice-like canyons that dot this plane are extremely difficult to navigate, and it is thought that most of the occupants are subterranean.  It has often been lamented that the gnomes have been largely exterminated from Aeyris, and that magically inclined dwarves are in short supply -- they would be the perfect candidates to explore this plane further.

***

Idrogeno

Now you're just making crap up.

This plane has some affiliation with ice and water magic, and seems more aligned with the hells than the heavens.

The vast oceans and frozen tundras of this plane make exploring it as frustrating as it is dangerous. There are certainly civilizations that live here, but whether they lurk beneath the frigid oceans, in an icy citadel, or in the tropical waters toward the center remains to be seen.
