The Fashions of Aeryis

Ongoing section is filled with content courtesy of Lyriel, with loose thematic guidance from the myself. I'm looking forward to the next installments, and am absurdly grateful for Lyriel's mastery of the world of fashion, which augments my clumsy descriptions of garments and style immensely.

Dark Elves
A victorian gothic aesthetic.

Colors: are limited to dark jewel tones, think sapphire, emerald, deep purple, black, charcoal grey etc.

Fabrics: Taffeta, Chiffon, Velvet, lace trim, men wear wool and satin. Cotton is common among the lower classes but the style still mimics the silhouettes of the upper classes.

Feminine Silhouette: Corseted waist, a medium sized bustle, more "manly" detailing to day dresses with jackets that feature almost a military style think lots of little buttons or epaulets. Long sleeves are worn for the most part, high necked lace under shirts with choker collars trimmed in lace are fashionable for the day time. Many women wear fascinators tilted at jaunty angles which have peacock and black ostrich feathers for decoration. Buttoned black boots are popular. Evening wear is typically sleeveless or off the shoulder, bustles are still worn but the trains are much longer, the fabrics for the evening are of a much higher quality, fans are typical accessories and intricate curling up do's are the norm. Satin heeled slippers take the place of boots. Jeweled combs and cornets are frequently worn in the hair. Elbow length gloves are expected in polite society.

Male Silhouette: Tight pants, patterned waist coats and cravats. During the day they would more than likely wear a longer and larger "morning coat" which would usually be single breasted with a single button. Top hats were frequently worn, and canes were carried. The males like to take liberty with their cravat pins and pocket watches for jewelry. While not to the extreme of the women some of the men have taken to have small bits of lace decorate the cuffs of their sleeves. Hair is worn at a medium length and either slicked back, or cut a bit shorter with more prominent sideburns. Facial hair is rare. Evening wear is typically full tails. Again tighter pants but this time with a vest, tightly fitted coat nipped in at the waist and with tails. The waistcoats and cravats in the evening tend to be a bit darker, silk is typically worn. Shoes are well fitted ankle height boots. The word sleek comes to mind when thinking of a male dark elf.

Re: The Fashions of Aeryis

I'm serious!  If Ashley's going to write up these detailed descriptions, I think it would be neat to have drawings to accompany them.

I mean, when we play actual tabletop D&D, she spends half her time drawing sketches of pretty dresses.  It's a logical progression! (Sorry Ashley.)

Re: The Fashions of Aeryis

The Church of Ma'or:

The Knights of the Breaking Dawn were each issued a crisp white cotton surcoat, trimmed in gold with varying colors and designs to denote rank. Each coat is fashioned with appropriate slits at the sides for the comfort of riding and general ease of movement. The surcoat is open at the front and fastens with golden buttons in the shape of suns, and hits each wearer precisely at mid thigh. The symbol of Order of the Breaking Dawn is emblazoned over the left breast: a bright red heart with rays of light emanating forth from behind it in a sunrise. Each member is also issued a crimson cloak which falls to the heel, and features a white shield on the back bearing the emblem of their order.

Not to be left out, the priestesses (and priests) are likewise given vastly improved attire. The women wear an underdress of crimson with wide bell-shaped sleeves. The fabric is dusted with tiny symbols of Ma'or: the standard pink heart with golden rays emanating forth. The rays of light are embroidered with a shimmering thread that give the symbols an almost glowing effect, especially in the light. Over the underdress is worn a cyclas surcoat; a white sleeveless garment with wide open arm holes that show the beautifully designed underdress. The surcoat is brought in some at the waist by lacing at the sides with golden cords. Once again the trim on the garment denotes the rank of the individual. The symbol of Ma'or is show prominently on the front of the surcoat. The dress, while conservative in length, is nonetheless sufficiently short as to show off the priestess' choice of footwear.

Priests wear a variation of this garment. The underdress has straighter sleeves, and the surcoat is of a more like that of the paladins, with a more masculine cut, opening at the front with buttons of gold featuring the enameled design of Ma'or.

In addition, each priestess wears a delicate golden circlet featuring a heart shaped pink jewel resting on the forehead surrounded by delicate rays of light in filigree.  Priests wear a read velvet cap with gold trim around the base that has interlocking symbols of Ma'or decorating the trim.
