In reply to Keef (msg # 262):
Ok, so... WTF, ZURIEL?!
I've gotten a lot of pings about this, and since Zuriel's controller is on the road, I figured I'd clarify a few things.

FAQ
Q. DIDN'T HE DIE?
A. Yes.
Q. AND YET HERE HE IS.
A. Yes.
Q. WTF?
A. Zuriel Silendril, the Highborn you've known and (in some cases) loved, is dead. He was completely annihilated when he passed through the gate to Ma'or, every cell atomized entirely such that no magic could ever restore him.
Q. AND YET HERE HE IS.
A. I'm getting to that. Though his body was destroyed, his soul was not. Typically souls would be drawn toward their final resting place, but this was far from a typical place for a soul to find itself immediately after being separated from its body. Thus Ma'or was able to isolate it and reward his sacrifice by forming a new body around it.
Q. BUT HE HAS WINGS.
A. These aren't questions. But yes, he does. The new body is a Celestial one, with many of the racial characteristics. You'll also notice he lost his surname. Zuriel is dead and gone, his memories a jumbled mess and his purpose different than before.
Q. HE REMEMBERED US JUST FINE. AND SEEMS TO HAVE THE SAME PERSONALITY.
A. There will be similarities, but trust me: Zuriel is dead. He remembers who he was and what he's done, but his perspective is different now. As is his Duty. There are times you'll see flashes of the old Zuriel in his actions, but there will be times where you see something altogether new, as well.
Q. SO IT COULD BE SAID THAT HE IS A NEW CHARACTER WITH A FAMILIAR NAME AND FACE?
A. Precisely.
Q. AND RAZIEL?
A. An NPC that I gave to Zuriel while the plot bubbled and boiled prior to his return to the party. He will shortly be reverted to an NPC under my control, and his text reverted from aqua to standard black.
Q. DOES SHAHARA HAVE WINGS NOW, TOO?
A. No. I remain a heartless GM regardless of his pleas to the contrary.
Q. EXCELLENT.
A. Quite.
I'll leave the other details for Zuriel to explain in-character after combat or on the road down the line, but I hope this helps for now. I know it feels like this "cheating of death" mitigates his sacrifice, and in a way you'd be right. But I assure you that Zuriel Silendril died that day in the Celestial Heavens, and that something new (but not altogether foreign) has risen to take his place.
If you have other questions, please post 'em and I'll do my best to answer. Thanks all!
