OOC Discussion

Rules questions or other comments that make more sense coming from the player than from the character go here.  I'll kick things off.

Everyone has been assigned a color for their character to use while speaking.  It follows this breakdown:

Mooks
Important NPCs (Red)
Important NPCs Controlled By A Guest/Not-the-DM (Blue)
Chris (Green)
Sarah (Dark Blue)
Ashley (Lavender)
Andrew (Aqua)
Jon (Yellow)

Normally, you'd be free to choose any color you wanted, but we have a colorblind player in the mix, and we determined through painstaking trial and error that this is the only setup that really works for him.

If you'd like to trade colors with another player, of course, you're welcome to do so.  Just limit the pool to the colors listed, and do not duplicate the color of another player.

Let me know if you have any questions or concerns!

In reply to DM (msg # 1):

Worth mentioning: I'm going to describe things mostly assuming you "took 10" on your perception rolls, and most other rolls made when you're not in a hurry, unless you specifically say you're rolling it and then do so.

In addition to colored dialogue, I have found selecting a character image to be very useful in quickly remembering who is who.

Under the "Character Details" Tab you just click on "Change Portrait".

Re: the "taking 10" on perception:

I'm fine with that for mundane stuff; for things like stealthy enemies, if they roll, I don't mind taking 10.  Just as long as it's not like "Oh, this trap is a DC 20 to spot, but you only have a +9 on your perception so you don't see it."

Re: OOC Discussion

In reply to DM (msg # 8):

I'd also advise everyone to take a peek at the bio information for Baldwin of Blakehaven and Sir Giles Thistleworth in The Cast page.  Baldwin is an NPC, and Sir Giles is a (N)PC, controlled by another "player" who will be helping me from time to time by commanding important NPCs.  We'll be on the same page, never fear.  He will not be using DM Red, but another color.  Bright blue, I believe, will work for our colorblind friend.

Works for me.  I'm going to leave DM blank, but Baldwin and Giles are both equipped with something workable.

I've added one to Chris and Sarah's characters as well.  I was testing whether or not they populate in reverse on the forums, but I learned what I set out to learn.  They do not.

Feel free to update your portraits as desired!

Hey all, just updated my physical description finally. Character sheet inc. tonight, as well as another post when I have access to a keyboard that isn't an ipad.

And hopefully also something from the last member of our party...

Just wanted to remind folks to keep an eye on their Private Messages.  They can be overlooked sometimes due to RPOL's interface, but I'll often use them to send important details along to select people.

I have added a "loot list" to keep a running tally of the items found during your adventure.  It will not say who has what, however; that's up to you.  I recommend checking it from time to time, as it will not pop up as "new" every time I edit it.

Re: OOC Discussion

In reply to DM (msg # 18):

The player controlling Keef will be entering "autofollow" for a little while as he deals with some family matters.  Fear not - all is well.  His life just got a little more complicated, is all, and he's ask that I help keep things moving along for a little bit.

This is a good time to mention "autofollow" mode, by the way.

If for any reason you have to leave the game for a few days/weeks/months/etc., just let me know and we'll put your character into a holding pattern.  I will do my best to represent the character's actions faithfully, according to how you've been playing him and the background information I possess.

Important: Autofollow characters are special in that they have very, very thick plot armor and they will not take part in combat in any way that risks damage.

Thanks for understanding!

Re: OOC Discussion

Might be a good idea for each prepared spellcaster to have a "standard list" and then PM you any deviations.  Saves a lot of bookkeeping on both ends.

Excellent. I'll take you off autofollow for now.  You're currently top o' the initiative list, beginning next round.  Zuriel and Lyriel and the archers and Filbert have yet to act in the current round.  If they survive... you'll kick off the next one :)

Re: OOC Discussion

I have a feeling we'll be seeing a lot of tripping in the coming fights, so here's a quick rundown on how it works in 3.5.  This is, of course, particularly relevant to Sarah, but good that we all understand it.

A trip attempt takes place in two steps:

1. Melee touch attack against the opponent (provokes AoO unless you have Improved Trip or a tripping weapon; Maeve has both, so no AoO).

2. Strength check opposed by either Str or Dex.  Maeve currently rolls 1d20+7 on this check.

3. If the check fails, opponent can try to trip you back.  Maeve can drop her weapon to avoid being tripped in this way.

4. If Maeve trips an opponent, because she has Improved Trip, she gets a free immediate melee attack on that opponent.  This is at a +2 bonus because the opponent is prone.

You can try to use trip to pull a rider from his horse.  If you do, he can use a Ride check instead, if he so desires.  Creatures get +4 for each size category above medium that they are, -4 for each category below.  Also get +4 for having more than 2 legs.

Hope that's helpful
