From my perspective as a reader, I see:
Simon:
Simon smirked as Penny began to talk...and talk...and talk. He leaned into Jacob and whispered _____
More aloud to the group, "For the lips of the adulterous woman...
So Simon's inwardly mocked Penny talking too much, then (after whispering something behind our backs), made statements critical of a woman's speech. I read that as mostly referring to
Penny, not Kate. The implication of her as a charming, deceitful adulteress was rather odd, given what a prim and proper Victorian she is.
Those lines still sound off to me, coming off, out of context and speaking in general, as how a pretty/charming/sexual woman is dangerous and deceitful. Ideas like that tend to form the core of misogynistic views and poor treatment of women over the ages.
I'm not sure how difficult you want Simon to come across in-game, for his occupation and the era, but I fear you might be succeeding too well. Thank you for the clarification of your intent. I do hope you can make it clearer in future. RPing the argument is fun, anyway.
Since we're sharing, I'm a G.I.R.L., that is, a guy in a real life, but I consider myself a feminist. I play a lot of female characters online, because I consider them more interesting and because I like playing against stereotypes (and I'm also lonely, but enough about that). I made Penny because I liked the name, she's a female Sherlock Holmes not quite in the genre, and I thought a female perspective on sexist Victorian values and the often-blokey Supernatural setting would be interesting. She hunts predators, of all kinds. It's a pity we're 15 years too early for the militant feminism of the suffragettes, else Penny would be right into that (those women were so brave and tough with what they faced).
