Re: The Haunting of the Rose - Chapter 2, Heritage

"I can't find anything of use in that room." Drex said as he joins the conversation. He sees the sadness that has descended over Willa and the whole party, but this was not the time. Not for him any way. "You say the undead are moving and the town is in danger... Then we have no time to wast. We must gather our stuff and go now, you can morn for the dead later, its the living that needs out help now. And if we fail the we will have a lot more dead to morn over!"

Taking a sheet from the bed in the other room he makes his way to the to the body of Aviana and wraps her in the customary what of his people. This was his way of showing his respects. "Jubei, you will be the strongest to carry her out..."

Drex thins for a moment. "Could there be a secret passage that might lead us closer to the town or the Necropolis? Phelan, see is there aren't any illusions counselling them." Hoping to his goods that there was.

Re: The Haunting of the Rose - Chapter 2, Heritage

Phelan shook his head at Willa. "It wasn't you Willa. And we're not even sure her soul had not been displaced in the first place." He shook his head sadly as he sat back, before looking at the Kaetyma. "Jubei, I might need to borrow your blood. Again." He had already drawn the syringe again, knowing he needed to be prepared for whatever was happening next.

"We should take a rest first, then head to our next destination as quickly as we can. Before we go, Drex, I'll look over the room to see if there's anything magically concealed."

Re: The Haunting of the Rose - Chapter 2, Heritage

Jubei gave a silent nod, letting Phelan draw the blood he needed once more, maybe idly wondering just how much blood he had to give.. though on account of his size, it was probably... a lot.
The idle musings on his parts ended soon after as he then took to draping the lifeless body of Avianna over his back, not really impeded by her in any significant way.
"I just realised... we should probably check her for a key to that chest... there might be something useful in it, if it was worth locking.", he said as he turned and twisted in an attempt to turn his upper body enough to try and search the body, before looking back to Phelan. "Would you be so kind? Since you're going to check the room anyway."
He then turned to look to Willa again, shaking his head. "No Willa, you didn't do bad. You did what was necessary and saved us from those... illusions. In fact I'd say you did pretty well."

Re: The Haunting of the Rose - Chapter 2, Heritage

Midagarra gave a start at the mention of her name and a sarcophagus, her brow furrowed for a moment as her mouth quirked into a tight frown while her free hand stroked the underside of her chin.  The druid seemed to be both furiously in concentration and very far away with her thoughts.
As Phelan made his way to the backroom, he found his hands playing with something, he had not realized it until he had entered the chamber but he held the teleportation device in his paws.  It was just shy of glowing.

Phelan poured magical energy into the vials once again, magically charging them before storing them on his bandoleer. He appeared to look down at his paws briefly while approaching the backroom, beforeshaking his head and continuing onward, his hands  quickly placing something away in his pack.

Frowning, he looked over the room both with his eyes, and his ability to sense the arcane, attempting to discern any illusions or items that the others had not seen. His eyes, however, did light upon the chest and, after ensuring there were no traps he might have missed, he decided to examine the chest more closely to see if it was trapped.

"Willa." He called out of the room. "What's this sarcophagus you're talking about anyway?"

Willa was too far away from Phelan to be seen or heard easily and was in no mood to shout, so the ingenious little Narayah did not see her heavy shrug or hear the umbrean's lacklustre reply.

"Willa no know.  From Necropolis.  Ehuron wants."

There was so much to wrap his mind around, so much of the story he seemed not to know, Daryl got lost in his own thoughts. He heard Drex calling for him, but it felt as if on the next moment he was back from searching the room the doola was meant to help. He shook his head trying to get back to what was important, there would be time for understanding later.

"Well, how many sarcophagi can we come across...?" He asked softly, almost in spite of himself.

Re: The Haunting of the Rose - Chapter 2, Heritage

As Phelan looked around the large room; he was still unnerved to be in such a large space by himself and his little light.  He could sense magic but those sources were enchantments, not illusions.  There were three enchanted objects in the room, at least two of them within the chest while another was within the desk.
He did not find any dangers upon the locked chest nor did he find any secret doors as he examined the walls.  Even though it made no sense that an artificial underground space would only have one entrance and exit.  Perhaps the cultists simply had been overconfident or ignorant with their construction?

"Odd..." The young artificer mused at the lack of exits. "Why no backdoor? Did they assume they wouldn't need to escape?" He shook the question from his mind, instead taking out his own set of thieves' tools and investigating the lock. The picks went in as he began feeling for the tumblers, attempting to release them.

Phelan’s picks had trouble finding purchase on the tumblers within the lock for some reason, so he hoped he would find a key somewhere.
Midagarra took a seat upon one of the benches and seemed to fall asleep sitting upright.  Her gem crowned staff resting against the wall beside her the thing still very much looked like a spear rather than a quarterstaff.

"Dammit..." Phelan murmured, before it occurred to him to check the body as Jubei had probably been asking him to do. He dashed out of the room over to Aviana, going over her more carefully to see if she had the key on her, or anything else useful.

Jubei had watched in mild irritation how Phelan had just left for the room without regarding the body for even a second and simply gave a sigh as he turned his attention to Daryl and rubbed with one hand over his scaled chin. "I admit I am not too familiar with the burial rites of the Isleborn, but given that we are going to a Necropolis next, I would assume that we will find plenty of sarcophagi."

Re: The Haunting of the Rose - Chapter 2, Heritage

After carefully unwrapping the body, then looking through the ornate white dress, Phelan finds a small iron keyring with a few solid iron keys and one steel key attached to it.  Leaving Jubei and Drex to wrap the corpse of the daemon priest up afterwards he bounds up the steps into the dark room.
Phelan tried the steel key upon the lock, finding that it catches and the chest opens, inside he finds a few bags of coinage and jewels along with a pair of boots and a simple belt, both items he could sense enchantments upon.  While going over to the desk and searching through it Phelan found a great deal of documents and books – some blank to various degrees - as well as writing utensils but also some clothing and a magical cloak.

[Congratulations you have just found your first TREASURE!]

Willa turned away, unable to look at Aviana as Phelan rifled through her belongings.  People might think that such a short lived race as the umbreans would worry less about death.  Perhaps others of her kind did, but Willa was nothing if not different.  Her limited lifespan made her appreciate living all the more and the death of someone innocent, someone good was felt all the more keenly because of it.

Phelan frowned, eyes glowing  as he magically examined the items he could sense enchantments on, attempting to identify what they might be. He knew they didn't have much time, so his checks were somewhat rushed; he hoped to find useful items for later.

Drex inspects the bags Phelan has found. Looking up from the bags he mentions that he thinks they have to get a move on if they wish to save the town. He seeing Midagarra 'meditating'. I don't think this is the time for that., he thinks to himself. Going over to her to see if he can rouse her from this state.

Re: The Haunting of the Rose - Chapter 2, Heritage

Phelan found the boots to be enchanted to give grace to one’s movements.  The cloak was a rare magical item, often carried by those who were magical craftsmen like himself with the ability to carry far more goods within it then its apparent physical dimensions provided, there were scores of pockets upon its interior which appeared only when his hands came into proximity of the cloaks underside but vanished back into the fabric once his hands moved away.  The belt had a simple enchantment which improved the health of its wearer somewhat.
The druid, opened her eyes and nodded at Drex as he approached, so she seemed to not be far away at all,  Midagarra seemed more prepared than anyone else to leave at a moment’s notice.
Drex found the bags to contain mostly gold and silver coins, as well as some coppery and a few jewels and a piece of ore.  The stone was almost jet black with bright red, metallic streaks and some kind of dark red, glassy material forming some part of a complex geometric patterns and it caught the light in scintillating rainbows, at first it felt like a block of ice in between his fingers – the thing was about the size of his thumbnail – then it quickly grew warm, then hot as red spark flashed between the stone and his fingers sending a shot of pain through his hands which had him reflexively casting the stone away.  It bounced against a wall and landed on the ground, glowing with a faint red light.  The gems which pierced through the skin on the back and the front of Drex’s hands were themselves now, glowing visibly.

Drex was startled by this. "I think that stone also needs to be examined, but not now.", he said to Phelan and Daryl. Using part of hes clothing to quickly pick it up and hands it to Phelan, which was closes to him. "Put it somewhere save, and be careful. If reacts violently if you hold it for to long."

He gathers his belongings and readies himself for the trek back to Kyssia.

Re: The Haunting of the Rose - Chapter 2, Heritage

"I believe I'll be taking this..." Phelan murmured as he eyed the cloak admiringly. It was a very useful find, and it was a very helpful coincidence that they acquired it alongside the  dangerous object. As he fastened it about his neck, he shuddered as he felt the magic melding with his own. It was lucky that it was mostly sized appropriately for him. He could fine-tune the sizing once they were done with this madness.

He quickly took the stone that Drex held in a corner of the cloak, placing it within one of the extradimensional pouches. It would be secure in there for sure. Something tugged at the corner of his memory about the cloak, he had read about it somewhere before...

Shaking his head in irritation at his own distraction. Deciding time was of the essence, he quickly gathered the coinage and jewels into pouches within the cloak, revelling in the lack of weight; the documents that he did find went into his backpack.  "My apologies for the delay. We should continue moving; as we do so, there are two items here that some of you might like. A belt that grants extra vigour and energy, and shoes that grant you grace of movement." He held up both items to the group. "Oh, and Drex, the teleportation device has recharged. I can bring us back to Kyssea if you desire."

As Phelan picked up the small stone.  Though he seemed to be entranced by it for a little while before he visibly shook himself and put the stone away.
Hearing that the group was ready to depart, Midagarra rose from the floor and walked over to Phelan the blue light from the jewel atop her staff brilliant enough to mute the yellow and orange light from the lamps and lanterns nearby there was even a faint kaw from her satchel as Morrey stirred from the sudden movement.

Before they would depart, Jubei raised one of his clawed hands. "I would take the belt. I can imagine that being useful... especially considering how often you prick me.", he said the last part as more of a joke, given how he gave a faint smirk. "We still also have that dragon-bead that we need to decide the fate of. We didn't take it along... did we?", the kaetyma spoke and turned his head to look back into the darkness from where they had come.

"I'll pass on those boots... they don't exactly look like they would fit me.", the kaetyma said and lifted one of his large front paws and curled the clawed toes for empahsis. Even though magic would probably make them fit anyway somehow. The dragonblood however proceeded to step closer for the transport as he equipped the belt.
