Re: The Haunting of the Rose - Chapter 2, Heritage

Midagarra knew the others would be able to take care of the south. She turned to watch the lit up area that was Phelan as he investigated to the north, waiting for a target.

Midagarra will do nothing until she sees an enemy appear within Phelan's pool of light, at which point she will attack whatever appears when it is the most lit.

Readied Action: Fire Hawk
Attack: 8 vs Reflex. Nope!

Jubei let out a growl as he rose his axe against the last of these shadow creatures, a trail of radiant light once more following in the wake of the blade.

End of Round 7

D espite the darkness blasting beside Jubei from his slain enemy he was no worse for wear even as he stomped off into the middle of the room to find more foes he was annoyed to discover there seemed to be no further foes about.

Willa could not see anyone there in the darkness about her yet she could just faintly pick out a soft “clicking” sound of some sort of machinery at work.  When she tried to follow the sound she realized there was something hanging from the ceiling in the corner…
[Willa your curse can’t apply because there isn't a target you are aware of.]

Phelan managed to find a wall and along his trek he found no further enemies though as he came up to the wall he could hear a low clicking the same sound that had been in the background just before the crossbow bolts would fire and it was coming from the east.

With the aid of Phelan’s light Drex could just barely make out the presence of some-sort of mounted crossbow on the ceiling though his ears picked up the sound of another crossbow on the south side of the room.

Phelan pointed out the crossbow to the north, to the others, yelling a warning when a crossbow bolt was launched at him. As the crossbow bolt collided with his shoulder, Phelan's vision darkened, his grip on the torch loosened as he collapsed to the floor, although it appeared he was not in danger of bleeding out immediately.

Death Saving Throw: 18! Stabilised.

Re: The Haunting of the Rose - Chapter 2, Heritage

Willa felt the pain of another bolt thudding into her.  It was terrible and she was starting to lose consciousness.  She knew she had little time left and did not know where the shots were coming from.  Her only lead was that strange mechanism hanging from the ceiling.

Deciding to get a better look, she ran over to it, taking as defensive a posture as she could whilst doing so.

Move action: Move to R18 (gain Shadow Walk)
Standard Action: Total Defence
Minor action: Draw potion of healing.

Free action: Nature Monster Knowledge Check - 11
(It seems that constructs made from materials found on the natural realm are considered natural creatures for monster check purposes.  Weird :P)

In my move, I am assuming that Willa can stand underneath the crossbow thing.  If not, she'll obviously move to an adjacent square instead.

Final defences: Partial concealment from Shadow Walk, possibly total concealment from the darkness, and total defence.

Re: The Haunting of the Rose - Chapter 2, Heritage

Midagarra rushed over to Phelan and picked up the torch. He didn't appear to be bleeding out, and she needed to find whatever was shooting crossbow bolts at them. With Morrey cawing on her shoulder, she sent out a flaming hawk into the dark where she thought the crossbow was. Unfortunately she was more or less aiming blindly and the hawk splashed harmlessly against the wall.

Move action: R8->O5
Minor Action: Pick up torch
Standard action: Fire Hawk at ??? North
Attack:  6 vs Reflex. Ahahahahahahaha no.

Seeing Phelan fall and Midagarra's attack failing Drex decides to try and destroy the mechanism. Being just out of reach Drex focuses his holy symbol on the crossbow. With a quick prayer and a wrathful look on Drex's face, his holy symbol flared up and shot out a beam of radiant energy toward the mechanism.

Re: The Haunting of the Rose - Chapter 2, Heritage

It took Jubei a moment to realize that the only remaining danger in this room were those crossbolts that kept flying out of the darkness, then it took him another precious moment to realize from where they came, only to see Willa disappear into the darkness. With a grim expression he decided to follow her.

Move action: L-M 15-16

Minor Action to Move Action: P-Q 17-18

Assuming there are no obstacles in the way.

Jubei wasn't sure what kind of threat would await them or if he could even do anything, but the least he could do was shedding some light with the spirit lantern, which would no doubt make things at least a bit easier. And yet the darkness still continued to eat away at him.

Saving throw: 3 using 1d20

20/37 HP remaining

Daryl spun on his heels all about, once again unsure of the best course of action, but choosing to chase after Drex and see what good could he do over there. It was a bit of a stretch to hope he could collapse the machine or at even dislodge it with a spell, but worth a try.

Standard Action: Freezing Burst vs R3 (burst 1)
Attack: 14 vs Reflex
(how does that even work against a construct?)

Hit: 6 Cold damage.
If hit, try to slide it easy and hopefully tumbling into the floor and its demise.

Round 9

Only to be deflected by the dark stony armour of the mighty kaetyma.
Crossbow Turret II attacks Jube with Crossbow Bolt and misses.

Whilst Phelan remained passed out, Midagarra made her way south to Jubei, dropping the torch near the artificer so he'd remain in the light. She moved on over to where Phelan had originally dropped his own torch, taking a combat stance and unleashing a hawk at the turret that was now in sight.

Her now almost-signature flaming hawk splashed against the turret.

Phelan Death Saving Throw: 17.

Move: 05->R8->R11
Standard: Fire Hawk
Attack: 10 vs Reflex? I want a thesis on how a mostly-immobile construct has a reflex defence.

Willa dropped to the floor as the apparently last threat was destroyed, hoping to recover some.  However as she looked around, she saw a ball of fur laying prone across the room.  Suddenly she remembered her promise to him and how she had forgotten it in the midst of battle and now this?

"Mr Phelan, Sir!" She screamed and ran over to him as quickly as possible.

Re: The Haunting of the Rose - Chapter 2, Heritage

Jubei was snarling as he stared up at the crossbow, only to watch with some satisfaction how it went up in flames and shed some very dim light onto it's surroundings. Which happened to coincide with the devouring darkness that clung to his form finally dissipating against his 'radiant' scales.

Saving Roll: 11

Though there was no much time for respite, as he was startled by Willa's outcry and quickly turned his attention her way, and then a moment later to Phelan. With a grim expression on his face he rushed over to the fallen Narrayah. "Don't worry, you won't die here.", he muttered as he spoke a brief prayer that caused his hands to glow with a soft, but warm light before he pressed them against Phelan's body, letting the radiant energy flow into him.

Lay-on-Haaaaaaands: Phelan regains hit points as if he had spend a healing surge.

Almost unnoticed was the gradual lifting of the darkness upon the area the adventurers were in.  Revealing another dormant set of crossbows on the far side of the room from the adventurers as well as the whole square of the large pit within which they found themselves.  Two more doorways also revealed themselves, one upon the southern wall, a large set of double doors and another gate upon the western side.

The doorway to the south was made of stone and was akin to the strange, frightening doorway which had lead into this dark cathedral in the first place.

Drex stood back as every one rushed to Phelan's aid. It was getting crowded any way, he thought to himself. Drex desired to also taking a moment to catch his breath ad treat his wounds. Before his attention is dragged to the looming southern door... He pushes himself up from the floor, but resist the temptation to do what he is thinking of doing.

What Drex does do is firing radiant beams at the inactive crossbows burning them to ash. "Just in case." smirking as he preemptively replies to the group. "So if you guys have finished liking your wounds are we ready to proceed and sort this shit out before more shadow things come?" gesturing with his head to the stone doors.

After having made sure that Phelan was back on his feet, Jubei took care of his own afflictions, as minor as some of them were, he knew better than to let them pile up.

Using 1 healing surge to get to 32/37 HP.

After that he gave a nod to Drex. "Yes... I can't imagine that it would be that much further to reach the deamon now... could well be behind that door already.", he muttered and then slowly approached it.
