Phelan had remained quiet during Willa's speech, and listened carefully as the others discussed the situation, during the discussion he looked occasionally at Amare with an expression of consternation on his face, but it eventually was smoothed off. As a quiet momentcame up, he spoke. "I agree. Tis is something we cannot leave to chance. Even if we do leave, as you have noted, this will end up unsealed one way or another."

He paused. "We will likely be fighting some sort of amalgamation of the Tyrant-King and the Umbreans, given Jubei's description. "

Willa had gone quiet.  She was staring at the notes in front of her, but had a distant, ponderous expression on her face as though not looking at them at all.

"I am ready.", Jubei spoke but gave a worried look over to the orange oozeling. "But I think that Willa might need a moment. Its... rather hard to learn that you're the last of your clan." He sighed lowly and gave a sage nod as his gaze drifted somewhere northward, the rough direction of where Muatal laid, before he shook his head. The brief moment of nostalgia gone as quick as it came.

Re: The Haunting of the Rose - Chapter 5, Therefore I am Nothing

Suddenly Amare planted his staff in the compacted, snowy floor.  ”She is not the last.” the head of the dull red bident swung open a spark of red light flashed into existence and swirled into a black ball which began to fill with tiny yellow lights.  A few at first then more and more until the ball was a miniature sun.

”That is a representation of all umbrean life on this world.” the prongs turned back and forth, slowly, beneath the ball of light.  ”Willa you are not the last of your kind.” he grinned sympathetically down at Willa.  ”Frankly I’d be more worried about the Ehuron but that isn’t something to concern yourselves over for now.  I suggest we leave Willa and Phelan to complete their preparations-” Amare pulled his staff from the ground, the magic it had sustained quickly fading away and the spikes of the bident resuming their usual positions – ”-while we go take a look at what contraption the narayah have assembled to lift Willa up to the appropriate spots along the doorway.” he spoke as he gathered his things and moved towards the door of the hut and looked back at the party.

Jubei grimaced at that and shook his head. "I was refering to her clan, not her people.", then he made a dismissive gesture and gave a growling rumble. "Yes, let us take a look at that contraption. I think its high time we open the weyr."

Ceba stared upwards at the face of Iron Jubei.
"To allay her fears
was Amare's only intent,
this is my belief."

Turning away he faced the so-called contraption, almost instinctively plotting out the easiest climbing route that would take him to the top. His common sense fought against his curiosity and daredevilish nature... And thankfully common sense won out. This time, he would not be climbing dangerous things.
This time.

"Willa no know umbreans clans.  Colony maybe?" She shrugged "Willa spawn 'lone.  Also is no' sad.  Is thinking.  Sorry to make to worry.  But, why umbreans go?  Kyssea was..." And she took her rod from her belt and waved it around in explanation.  "But why rest Isles?"

She shook her head and smiled at everyone.  "Willa find out later!  Go Weigher door now."  She turned and headed off.

"Wait, Willa. Before we go out..." Phelan looked contrite as he looked at Drex. "Let me take a closer look at that Drex. I'm sorry, I should have done this ages ago. I was... Distracted." The apology and guilt is genuine as he approaches his companion, eyeing where Drex had been scratching. He pulled out his medical supplies as he did so, narrowing his eyes.

Assuming that Drex actually let him take a look at the boils and didn't, say, decide to stand up and out of reach of the little Narayah, he did his best to diagnose and potentially help treat the disease.

Re: The Haunting of the Rose - Chapter 5, Therefore I am Nothing

Phelan’s treatment would take some time to apply but at least he had begun the process.

Collecting your possessions you made your way to the doorway of the weyr.  The narayan expedition had spent the early morning hours erecting and testing a crane they fashioned from ice, rope and a smattering of magic.  The tang of the later still stuck to the air.

Phelan was called over by the crane’s operator to discuss the careful maneuvering required to input the code.  Willa was helped into a harness tailored to her and some tests were done to see that she was comfortable and secure.

Soinr and her assistant observed it all with an air of mechanized patience.

After a while and a great many nerves on edge silence fell and narayah shouted out to each other.  The process was about to begin.  Now Willa’s memory and reflexes would be put to the final test.

Lifted up to the first symbol the mirror like surface shone Willa’s own reflection and that of those behind her and the contraption holding her up.  As her hand touched the surface the interior of the cerulean stone light up for the brief moment when she touched the wall a ring of light would form about her hand, only to vanish when her hand left the wall.  So focused was she on her task that even though she wanted to give this phenomenon time to develop she couldn’t and each time her hand contacted the surface the ring would appear again.  Besides that each symbol she touched lit up and slowly faded as she went on until finally the final of the forty-three symbols had been activated.

A crack like thunder resounded and a slight shudder spread out from the doorway the nearly seamless doorway split in two and the two halves of the gigantic door rotated gradually into the floor revealing a large tunnel like chamber with another door upon the far side two smaller doors – each roughly 10 feet tall - lay beside it.  The way the stone caught the light made the interior seem as though it was a cavern of ice and an enchanted one at that as within sparkled tiny shooting stars of light.  Though if that was from the light it caught or from internal energy was as yet unclear.

Conjure would however have to wait as much of the chamber floor was covered in dead bodies.  Human, doola and kaetyma all withered away by time into little more than husks still carrying their old equipment all of it seemed centuries if not a millennium old.  The bodies numbered at least a hundred and each was carefully, deliberately placed in a small circles back to back with others corpses.

The putrid aroma of the macabre scene washed outward with a plume of dust which swirled around the area and caused many to break out coughing fits.

[Everyone but Willa please make a DC 16 Endurance check or become weakened until you take an extended rest as you are afflicted with Putrid Dust.  Immunity and resistances to toxins or poisons applies.]

Maybe it was thanks to his head simply being higher than that of anyone else, maybe it was some sort of experience with stench, gathered by exposure in Kyssia. As it stood however, Jubei remained unfazed by the dust and used his shield as a fan to disperse the cloud before him.

Immediately he drew his weapon, the blade glowing in faint light as he strode forward to position himself inbetween the gate and his companions, very much expecting these strangely arranged corpses to come alive any moment.

Phelan unfortunately had made the mistake of inhaling deeply in apprehension as the doors opened. This, combined with his race's innately strong sense of smell, left him gagging and wheezing dizzily, his vision blurring as he staggered from the utterly revolting gust of air.

Endurance: 4.

Cebaka'ala cursed his own short stature, usually a point of pride, as the putrid gas spewed out over his head, covering him in what felt like the dust of centuries. He coughed and sputtered, taking a step back and instinctively moving in behind the Kaetyma - but it was too late. Already, he felt his muscles begin to burn as the dust he had inhaled filled his lungs and started the slow burn throughout his system.

Drex wasn't so much affected by the scene as he was by the smell, but that didn't make a real difference. As all of you hear a strange but familiar heaving sound. Look to where the sound came from you see Drex on all fours and it would seem that he just lost his last meal allover the floor.

Re: The Haunting of the Rose - Chapter 5, Therefore I am Nothing

Willa had the height advantage to clearly see, while most everyone on the ground was fighting off the exhalation of dust from the opening, a faint shimmering sweeping the chamber specifically the weapons on the ground which rose into the air and flew towards the people outside.  She could barely shout a warning as she wiggled in her harness the cranes operator bewildered by the sudden commotion did his best to try and lower Willa down to the ground.  Unfortunately it would take a moment and even then she was still bound in the harness.

The enchanted weapons caught many of the still coughing expedition off guard as each weapon went after their own target.  Groups of swords, and maces, and spears breaking off to take on one person at a time.  Each of you found yourself engaged by a single free-floating weapon, jabbing or swinging at you as if wielded by invisible foes.

[Please roll initiative, and place yourselves within or around the green combat zone on the combat map.]

Phelan stared in horror as the weapons flew out toward the Narayah, still swaying slightly from the metaphorical hammerblow of the scent. Already his wand was out, ready to start casting defensive spells on the Narayah being attacked. Between the shock of the situation and the smell from before, he couldn't get his mind working to analyze the weaponry.

Amare fared little better, already pulling out his rod, energy sparking from it as he reading himself. "Animated Weapons. They're little constructs..." He trailed off, not able to pull anything further to mind.

Initiative: 9
Monster Knowledge: 16 (forgot +1)

Phelan completed the sentence. "... And would be perfect for a security system. They're probably resistant to mental compulsions or outright immune."

Jubei had braced himself, he had expected an attack. Though... it hadn't come as lumbering as he had hoped. He watched as those weapons animated and began to float... and darted right past him!

"Scorching sun get back here you damn!"
, he yelled out as they went to attack the Narayah. Still, he was prepared for the fight.

"Quick my companions,
the dogs of war are loosed and
we shall meet their call!"

Quick on the heels of the Kaetyma behind whom he had taken refuge, Ceba drew his blades - muscles burning from the lack of oxygen in his bloodstream as he did so - and was determined to show off his skills in this first battle. Fighting opponents with weapons was one thing, as was fighting opponents without weapons - but he had never before fought weapons without opponents! A battle of the ages, this would be!

The animated blade slips past Ceba's guard, striking out at him. Denouncing the blade with a furious Narayah curse and grimacing from the attack, Ceba counters with a vicious blow, striking out with both blades at at the spectral sword - not entirely sure where to aim his strikes, he nevertheless swings with conviction!

Minor: Ceba designates AW24 as his Quarry this turn.
Standard: Ceba attacks with Twin Strike.
Target: AW24
Attack Roll: 15 vs AC using 1d20+8.  Twin Strike Attack 1.
Damage: 7 slashing using 1d6+4. Twin Strike Damage 1. (Damage cut to 3.5 due to Weakened)
Damage: 5 slashing using 1d8.  Hunter's Quarry on AW24. (Does this get cut too?)
Attack Roll: 16 vs AC using 1d20+8.  Twin Strike Attack 2.
Damage: 6 slashing using 1d6+4.  Twin Strike Damage 2. (Damage cut to 3 due to Weakened)

Re: The Haunting of the Rose - Chapter 5, Therefore I am Nothing

Willa flails about in her harness in a state of panic as she watches her friends and all the fluffy Narayah getting picked on by so many things.  At least she could still cast spells from here, awkward though it maybe.

She was sure her friends could handle their opponents and wanted to help the Narayah, but they would have to wait for now as she had little choice over her first target...

She grabbed her pretty but sinister rod and stared at it, as though staring a child down. "No bad now!  Are Willa's rod.  Do Willa wants."  Waving the implement around, her tell-tale circular brand appeared on the nearest weapon, looking like some sort of carved emblem.

"Willa no fight only weapon before, but no care.  Still to die, to break, to shatter, under starry glare!"

Minor action: Draw Rod
Move to Minor Action: Curse AW21
Standard Action: Dire Radiance on AW21
To Hit: 13 vs Fortitude
(d20+Cha:4, +expertise:1, +Proficiency:1, +disquiet:2, +Rod of Corruption: 1)
1st Damage: 9 Radiant, 1 Untyped  (10 total)
(1d6+Cha:1, +enhancement:1, +curse:1d6)

Effect: if the enemy moves closer to Willa on its turn, it takes another: 7 Radiant Damage (1d6+Cha:4, +enchancement: 1)

Though I assume a 13 misses anyway...
