Re: The Haunting of the Rose - Chapter 5, Therefore I am Nothing

Phelan stared in horror at what looked like it could become an utter slaughter... Then he discarded that terror behind a mask and began barking out in his native tongue.

Shortly after his words rang out over the battlefield, he switched to Common, almost casually evading the attack on him as Amare grunted in pain from the hit. "We need to take them down quickly; hopefully they should not be very durable. Amare, anything you can do to assist the retreat, do it; and try to get Jubei better positioned. Be careful with your rift."

The Narayah casually slid around the sword, not letting it get an attack in as he slammed his wand out in the direction of one of the injured Narayah. Inhaling deeply, he repeated the action at one of the others. Both gained that familiar shell of sonic energy that exploded out at nearby weapons.

Then his hands quickly stored the wand in his cape and pulled out his crossbow, quickly loading it and focusing at the Narayah on the battlefield.

Amare reeled slightly from the blow of the sword, but gave a weary nod to Phelan. Carefully he stepped out of range of one of the swords, unfortunately not able to be afar from both, before bringing out his rod.

With one gesture Jubei was galvanised to quickly move to his current destination. With another, a tall pillar of lightning exploded into exist in the mass of Narayah and weapons in the west. The crackles of lightning seemed to ignore the Narayah but instead reach menacingly toward the constructs. At the same time, however, the human left himself open to an attack from the nearby weapon.

Phelan barked a few more quick words toward the Narayah as the pillar formed.

Re: The Haunting of the Rose - Chapter 5, Therefore I am Nothing

It took but a moment for Jubei to realize the situation they were in, and that a lot of more or less defenseless Narayah needed his help.

Aided by whatever it was that Amare had done, he managed to deftly avoid and bring himself out of harms way of the animated weapon that had assaulted him. Not that he wouldn't have taken the safety of other's over his own regardless.

Shift from Knack for Success:
From W-X 11-12 to Y-Z 13-14

Move Action:

From Y-Z 13-14 along AA-AB 15-16 to AD-AE 15-16.
Provoking OA from AW20

He raised his weapon skyward, calling upon divine assistance to smite the spell constructs should they dare attack the defenseless.

Minor Action: Call of Challenge
Burst 3
Targets:
AW10, AW8, AW16, AW20, AW11, AW17, AW5
Targets are affected by Divine Sanction until the end of Jubei's next turn.
Taking 3 radiant damage if they do not include Jubei in their attack.

Then he brought his weapon to bear upon the animated spear that attacked the narayah next to him.

Standard Action: Virtous Strike
Target: AW11
Attack: 19 vs AC
Hit: 5 radiant
Jubei gains +2 to saving throws until start of his next turn.

Re: The Haunting of the Rose - Chapter 5, Therefore I am Nothing

Start of Round 2

Several of the enchanted blades had been felled in the past few moments though many still remained to continue the assault.

Willa is finally lowered onto the ground but she is still tethered to the crane by her tight harness.  She will either have to spend some time undoing it or take advantage of her gelatinous form and collapse out from the harness.  Or just remain inside it.

The crane tower began to give way slowly under the assault of the large, floating hammer which was crashing into it.
AW 1 attacks the crane with Jab, hitting and dealing 4 points of damage.

AW 14 retargets to N11 and attacks N11 with Jab, hitting and dealing 4 points of damage and shifting to 16AG.

A weapon flew into your midst and struck at Drex, spinning around to catch you all unawares only to be light ablaze by divine fire and to fall down to the snow sizzling but lifeless.
AW 16 retargets to Drex and moves to 16V attacking with Jab, hitting and dealing 5 points of damage and shifting to 14V.
Iron Jubei’s Divine Sanction Triggers, dealing 6 radiant damage to AW16.

Heeding Phelan's suggestion, Ceba flings himself aside to stand away from immediate danger, sheathing his blades and drawing his shortbow as he did so. Taking quick aim, he loosed two arrows at the animated blades, one arrow cutting through the air to the blade fencing with the unarmed Narayah below him, and the second flashing out towards the blade above.

Move: W13 to R11
Minor: Hunter's Quarry on AW9
Attack: Twin Strike on AW9 (Switching to Bow, Quick Draw)
To Hit: DEX vs AC,  14 using 1d20+6 (Should be 15, forgot the +1 level bonus)

Attack 2: Twin Strike on AW4
To Hit: DEX vs AC, 16 using 1d20+7
Damage: 7 using 1d6+3 (Total: 3.5)

CONTINGENCY: Disruptive Strike
Trigger: Crane is hit

Re: The Haunting of the Rose - Chapter 5, Therefore I am Nothing

Seeing the weapons falling fast, Willa calmed down and decided that perhaps she didn't really need to be anywhere else right now.  Though, the one hitting the crane was scary...  She forced her curse upon it, then studied the contraption to try to determine how resilient it was.

OOC
Minor Action: Curse AW1
Free/Minor Action: Assess the condition of the Crane
17:52, Today: Willa rolled 7 using 1d20+3.  Mechanics - Cranial Dillemma.
Roll includes fate of the void

However, the Narayah's method of construction and the unusual materials they had opted to use left her unsure.  Nodding assertively to herself that big things generally stood up quite well to being banged upon by a small weapon, she turned her attention to helping the Narayah.

OOC
When AW21 died, Willa would have triggered her corrupted rod and spread her curse to every enemy within 5 squares of it.  Then as every other cursed enemy fell she would have done it again, potentially cursing every enemy on the battlefield, but 1) I forgot to post that would be what she was going to do and 2) I have no idea what order the enemies died in, so I don't know how far the curse would have spread.  Thankfully, it doesn't matter for this fight, so I'll just take the +1 Fate of the Void.  It would have been fun for rp to have Willa's influence blanket the battlefield.

Standard Action: Dire Radiance on AW4
To Hit: 19 vs Fortitude
(d20+Cha:4, +expertise:1, +Proficiency:1, +disquiet:2, +Rod of Corruption: 1)
1st Damage: 8 Radiant
(1d6+Cha:1, +enhancement:1)

Should AW1 die Willa will spread her curse to each enemy within 5 squares of it.  It there aren't any, she'll gain fate of the void.  If there are and if they die, she'll repeat this process until her pact stops triggering.

Phelan looked around the battlefield, taking in the current situation in a second.  He barked out a further few commands in Narayan, before setting to work. Deft paws quickly stored the crossbow in his cloak and retrieved his wand.

They also retrieved a vial from his bandolier and opened it, releasing a healing vapor over to one of the injured Narayah nearby, as his wand snapped out in the direction of another, protecting it with a barrier of sound that exploded at a nearby weapon.

Free Action: Fast Hands
Effect: Store Superior Crossbow

Free Action: Deep Pocket Cloak
Effect: Draw Master's Wand of Thundering Armor

Swift action: Healing Infusion: Curative Admixture
Target: N19
Effect: Target heals for Surge+3 HP.

Move action: Move to the square to the right of N6

Standard Action: Thundering Armor
Target: N12
Effect: Target gains a +1 power bonus to AC
Secondary target: AW12
Attack: 19 vs Fort
Hit: 12 Thunder damage and target is pushed 1 square North.

Amare looked around cautiously. He focused n his rod and a duplicate of him seemed to shimmer in existence by two of the remaining weapons. It took a threatening pose with its implement, but seemed to be waiting for something.

Swift Action: Shaped Consciousness
Effect: Summon a fragment in T20

Willa was no engineer but the crane was made of bound and latched together wood.  It seemed like it would still hold for a little while against the assault of the magical weapons.
[Willa’s attack no longer has a target so action has been changed to Total Defense.]

With most of the magical weapons eliminated the remaining narayah fled.  Some helped gather up the wounded or the fallen and rushed back to camp with them.  Only the crane operator still remained hiding in his seat atop the crane.

Start of Round 3

Only a single weapon remained.  That one hacked away again at the crane tower only to be struck down by a shot from Cebakaala’s bow.  For that Willa received a boon from her patrons.
AW1attacked the crane with Jab, hitting and dealing 4 points of damage.
Triggering Cebakaala’s Disruptive Strike, negating the attack and dealing 2 damage to AW1.

The fearful driver of the crane needed some encouragement to leave his seat and descend the ladder, the wood creaked ominously from the stress but it held for the moment.
N1 moved to 8AC.

With the battle over for the moment it became readily apparent that something else was going on within the chamber.  Dry, strained cracking and creaking echoes within.  The source however was difficult to place as the interior was obscured by a thick cloud of dust.  The standing bodies were completely hidden by it and the dust cloud was spilling out into the cold air suffocating any other scent but its own.

[See Dust Cloud under battlefield effects.]

Start of Round 4

In the growing quiet there was a growing hum and a rhythmic beating of feet as that of soldiers on march.
Jubei and Cebakaala were the first to see the sources of this noise just as the dust cloud came upon them and their companions.
[All player characters inside the Dust Cloud, please make a DC10 Endurance check or loose 1 Move or Standard Action to a bout of coughing.  This effect will apply at the start of your turn if you are within the Dust Cloud and will persist until the cloud is dispersed.]

Cebakaala is pummeled soundly by the iron-like fists of the walking dead which had emerged from the cloud beside him.  Jubei managed to easily weave out of the way of his smaller opponent’s blow.
???1 attacks Cebakaala with ??? and hits for 9 damage.
???2 attacks Iron Jubei with ??? and misses.
???3 attacks Cebakaala with ??? and hits for 15 damage.

These creatures were some of the same corpses that had been arranged in small circles throughout the gatehouse.  Whether all of those dozens of corpses were foes or not was unknown.  At least though these creatures only seemed to be using their fists as weapons.  For now at least.

Re: The Haunting of the Rose - Chapter 5, Therefore I am Nothing

The Artificer held his breath as the dust storm hit. He frowned, staring helplessly into the cloud of sand. A quick glance behind noted Willa and Amare but that was all he could make out. A sudden bark from Ceba got his attention and he narrowed his eyes.

Shaking his head in exasperation, he closed his eyes briefly, concentrating. Mentally he drew out how the battlefield had looked before the storm rolled in.  After a few moments, he blindly reached for a vial, opping it open. The magical essence wafted into the storm, coalescing around Ceba's area and around the Narayah himself, healing some of the worst of the wounds.

Then Phelan backed up to rejoin Willa outside the cloud. "Willa... Straight ahead into the cloud. Two enemies. Maybe between 20 and 30 feet. Aim there. Be careful if you attack an area, Cebakaala is directly to the right of them." Frowning, the Narayah concentrated again, before waving pointing his wand at the cloud, releasing a burst of sonic energy.

Around Ceba, a field of sonic energy rose to protect him, exploding out at one of the attackers.

Amare backed carefully out of the cloud, having ignored the choking effect of it. He nodded once, seemingly at the air as his fragmentary consciousness moved into the cloud of dust, walking up to Jubei and Ceba. "They haven't moved yet..." Real Amare murmured as he concentrated, holding the rod with both hands as he focused on it.

Suddenly a rift opened up behind Ceba and Jubei, right beside the Fake Amare. The fragmentary consciousness makes a reassuring motion if concerns are raised.

Re: The Haunting of the Rose - Chapter 5, Therefore I am Nothing

Willa panicked upon hearing Ceba call for help, desperate to help her new friend, but unsure about navigating the dust storm.  Then came Phelan's guiding words.  She'd never blind-cast magic before, but she vowed to do her best.

She couldn't see her foe so cursing them was out of the question.  She just had to attack and hope she had understood the directions she'd received.  Between twenty and thirty feet?  Twenty-five then...but her nerves go to her as she was not brave enough to focus all of her arcane energy into the shot that could potentially hit her friend.

She moved backwards, trying to stay ahead of the storm, carefully measuring the distance.

Re: The Haunting of the Rose - Chapter 5, Therefore I am Nothing

Cebakaala’s first attack expertly found its mark though his second almost missed.  Jubei’s blade struck resoundingly despite not having as great an effect upon his undead-looking doola foe as he would have liked.  The dust cloud continued to surge outward blowing over those who who had stood just outside it and beyond.

End of Round 4
