Re: Back In The Saddle Again

Quick char-gen quesiton if anyone else has seen it: Where is the Mechanikal Familiar feat, if it does exist?  I know its on the revised Arcane Mechanik as a class ability, but its listed as a feat under the servitors section of Liber Mechanika and I can't find the listing.

Re: Back In The Saddle Again

@ Tristan: It's a fifth level special ability of the arcane mechanic. The details are on page 42 of Liber Mechanika. As I understand it you build a servitor and bond it as a familiar. You wind up with a steam powered friend (or wind up partner, or a battery operated buddy). If it gets destroyed there's a good chance the cortex is ok and you can replace the body so it's harder to kill than normal. I also don't think you lose exp even if the cortex is trashed, but you don't get the bonuses for an animal type so it kind of evens out.

Re: Back In The Saddle Again

Damn, thats what I thought, its a misprint.  In liber under Servitors it lists that you can gain a Mechanikal Familiar through either a feat or a class ability, so it could be used with a cerebral relay to reduce the ASF on a mechanikal arm.  Scratch that idea.

Re: Back In The Saddle Again

Also, since we do have two other Gun Mages: how much do magelock weapons cost, and can the quality be put on any gun?

Re: Back In The Saddle Again

According to the books, a magelock small pistol price would start at 650 GP, while a military one would have a minimum price of 800 GP... But my editions may be a little bit dated (they're translated ones...).

Re: Back In The Saddle Again

Hey Tristan, it does say something about sacrificing spell levels to remove the spell failure altogether for a time period. So you could spend one 0 level spell to remove the failure percentage for long enough to finish a fight maybe.

Re: Back In The Saddle Again

The prices Nicollo quoted are the ones I'm going with. Consider them 'basic models' without any bells and whistles.

Yes, the book does mention a Mekanical Familiar feat, but then they seem to have forgotten to add it (or else they changed their minds and then forgot to remove the reference).

The way I see it, in order for it to be a 5th level ability, it has to be an Improved Familiar or whatever euphemism you want to use, since a Sorcerer and Wizard can get a familiar at 1st level, but it's only a basic familiar.

So, Tristan, if you want a Mekanical Familiar, I can work up the feat for you.

In reply to GM StarMaster (msg # 99):

Heh nah its alright, was only interested in it for the mech arm stuff, and even then that was just some playing around really.  Already have the rest of my stuff in the works, shouldn't be too long until im done.

Re: Back In The Saddle Again

Okay, working through my items, have a question: In liber mechanika under table 2-3 mechanikal item design patterns, it lists 5 for accumulator space and 1 standard/2 light for rune plates under one-handed medium weapons.  I'm assuming that should be reversed so a medium one-handed weapon can hold 1 standard or 2 light accumulators and 5 Rune Plates?

Re: Back In The Saddle Again

Having computer problems, not serious yet, just damn annoying. Explorer seems to be having problems dealing with RPoL. All of a sudden the Explorer window crashes and wipes out my post. I was in the middle of a long post Monday when it did it. I'm trying to reconstruct it.

RL is getting in the way. I've been helping a friend chauffeur his mom to her daily hospital visits. That tends to chew up a lot of my time. Hopefully, I'll get to it tomorrow, but certainly by Friday (barring any new RL problems).

Yeah... that.  Good luck with your computer (and other RL duties), GM.  Come back to us when you can.

I'm not entirely sure I understood how the bonus for training #8 works. Do we invent a synergy between two skills that originally do not have a synergy bonus?

Re: Back In The Saddle Again

That's exactly what you do. You are inventing a new synergy! And it doesn't even have to make sense! The military seldom does.

If you were a civilian lifeguard, they'll assign you to the pool... either the motor pool or the secretary pool!

Re: Back In The Saddle Again

Guys, I'm having a little bit of problem in the electronics department. My computer has decided that it was due time to abandon this cruel life, and I have a really hard time in convincing him otherwise. In real life, I work 60h a week, and there's not much time left to find someone who can repair the thing, so there's a real possibility that until I solve this issue, my posting rate will be not as good as it has been. Sorry for the troubles.

The skeleton crew consists of the captain and 6 crewmen.

Sorry for the too fast and infrequent post, but ?I haven't yet solved the computer issue. I've already ordered a new, and it may arrive next week, so I guess I'll be returning to my normal posting rate soon.

Re: Back In The Saddle Again

Hey, in relation to your latest House Rule...

IE
Natural 20 + no confirm = max damage.
Natural 20 + confirm = Max damage * Multiplier..

What about this in regards to Sneak Attack damage? Different entirely? or same thing?

Re: Back In The Saddle Again

Question re: the guy Creswick and I are fighting:

1.) Are we flanking this guy, so Creswick should add his Sneak Attack damage?

2.) Does Creswick deal enough damage to put him down?

This will influence my actions for this round; I'm holding my action until Creswick's.

Re: Back In The Saddle Again

The rule is that the critical multiplier doesn't apply to Sneak Attack damage, but I think that's silly (even if I understand their rationale), so if you are rolling dice for a Sneak Attack and critical, the Sneak Attack does max damage and is multiplied.

Otherwise it's a nit-picky rule that gives me a headache.
