Re: OOC : Relaxation room

No problem. It have almost nothing to change. Also, I have a question. After you come to attention, you "get to rest" ? Or maybe you "come to rest" ?

I don't know how to say it correctly in English. :(

Re: OOC : Relaxation room

I think you mean "stand at ease". The order can be simply "at ease". The superior officer tells the subordinates to "stand at ease", rather than stand to attention.

No problem. My job is explaining English to non-English-speakers.

Re: OOC : Relaxation room

Sorry for the long speech between me and me. I initially thought that Vasandra was not in the SGC yet so I should not have met an alien in the mess. I planned to be briefed later about this but I had to change my plan so I introduced Jack to save me. :p

Re: OOC : Relaxation room

You may have also heard the term 'parade rest' and were mixing the two up. Parade rest is a sort of semi-formal relaxed state, half-way between attention and 'at ease'. It's been awhile since I had to go through the paces, but as I recall, you can't dismiss a formation if it's at parade rest, nor can they go to an 'at ease' stance from that. You have to bring them to attention first.

Re: OOC : Relaxation room

I think in this situation, O'Neill would say something like "As you were" to tell us to go back to what we were doing. "At ease" is normally to stand relaxed but still pay attention to the senior officer.

There's a list of commands here, mainly for parades and drills:

But Jack always seemed fairly casual in SG-1, so he could well say anything. :)

Re: OOC : Relaxation room

Thanks for the link Hilda. It will be helpful. :)
Yep, O'Neill has always been a bit casual. I have tried to make it sounds like that and I hope I was close enough to be convincing.

Re: OOC : Relaxation room

If you are all up and ready, we will start the game on Monday with a main briefing where you will be assigned to a SG team (Well, we will be all in the same team. :p).

Then, I will give you some time to prepare yourself and wander a bit in the SGC before you will get your first mission in the middle of the week.

If you need a bit more time or help to complete your character sheet, you can send a PM to me and StarMaster.

We both hope you will like this first mission. We have tried to give "a job" to everybody so nobody is left high and dry and can enjoy playing with his character. :)

Re: OOC : Relaxation room

The briefinf will finally be done tomorrow :
  1. We have some points to fix with one player before his character is finally done;
  2. We will have one more day to eat the noodles and sausages cooked by Hilda. :D

The first mission will still start mid-week after the briefing is done (And maybe some medical stuff).

Re: OOC : Relaxation room

That's because we don't have a stargate address for Poland! Unless that's another planet...

Re: OOC : Relaxation room

In the Stargate universe, there are several diseases, devices, events... that can make your character lose the control of its free will.

On a scale of 0 to 10, how much open are you to the idea that this could arrive to your character. Would you accept to lose control over your character for some time for the sake of the story or do you prefer that such cases never happen ?

Re: OOC : Relaxation room

I'd be probably about a seven on the scale of my character losing control and being forced to do something.

Re: OOC : Relaxation room

Ah, 6, I think. I'd give it a go if it's for a good story. It would have to brief, like only a couple of posts. Losing control of one's character long-term would mean not playing, or not playing the character you like, for weeks or months, and that would be unsatisfying.

I'd be happy to play it out myself, trying out an altered mental state and so on, with guidance and instructions from GMs. If I post myself in my style, it would certainly help disguise it from the other players. ;)

And to think I lowered Hilda's Will save thinking it wouldn't come up that often. :\

Re: OOC : Relaxation room

Yeah, I'm with Hilda.  I think I'd enjoy playing "Evil Kaspar", with guidance from the GM, rather than having to give up control for a while, and just be a Lurker with my own character.  I mean, sure, for a couple of posts, a day or two, I could sit back and let the GM run Kaspar, but much more than that and I'd be wondering why I'm around, if I'm playing my character.

Re: OOC : Relaxation room

I am inclined to agree that there is an important difference between the IC events changing the motivation/personality or even mind of a character and the player being denied access to playing in the game.

While there are a few things that show up in the SG setting that have mystery and deception so firmly rooted in their connection to the story that giving a player the needed information to play it out correctly could cause problems later on the vast majority of the temporary 'under alien influence' events would be better played through as a list of new objectives or even personality traits that take over the character's typical mindset and the player simply plays out those instead.
