Re: OOC : Relaxation room

That's what I thought -- I just wasn't sure about the armor...and was too lazy to go look it up ^_^

Re: OOC : Relaxation room

Fortunately, I could avoid the problem thanks to Vasandr's post. It can useful for my next part, though. So thanks to all of you. Rajip's a human human so he's dressed up accordingly to the situation and expectations, more or less, unless I specifically mention otherwise.

Re: OOC : Relaxation room

That is a good point I suppose I should update my description to include the mission gear, or at least an 'on mission' section and yes the black under layer is unlikely to be visible except as gloves the vast majority of time, and could easily be mistaken for a much less comprehensive garment.

Re: OOC : Relaxation room

To SG-X2 (Again :p)

My character may be your team's leader, I'm first of all a player just like you and I don't want that my decision alter your gaming experience.

Now that we have a bit more informations about the people on the Red Planet, I would like to know what you, the player (And not your character) would like to do.

You want to try to contact them or you prefer to stay far from them ?

Depending from your answer, my character will take a decision that will "penalize" the least players as possible. :)

Re: OOC : Relaxation room

*chuckles* I'd prefer the decision remain IC.   I'm obviously keen to move in. :-)

My concern is that the team as a whole isn't RPing.  At some point, you're going to have to ask people to post of leave :(

Re: OOC : Relaxation room

The final decision will be taken IC. But as I said, I don't want to take the decision for all the players because I have not been elected "Team Leader".

I think that the critical decision should not be taken only by me but by the entire group, it's more fair.

Regarding the post rate, it's sure that it has been an issue lately. StarMaster and I have not been able to speak for some time now so we have not taken a decision about this yet.
But we will probably give these players some more time to get a better post rate or we will remove them. That's sad but it's better for all the group. We are 3 out of 6 really playing and if an encounter has been made for 6 players, we will get some pain to get our ass safe !

A few 'deaths' isn't a huge problem early on.  Form up the group and make it a group of 4 so there is less expertise overlap.

Re: OOC : Relaxation room

I will admit I was away from the computer more most of the holiday break as it was vacation for me and it was difficult for me to get on to keep up with everything I am involved in, let alone make a post.

The other reason why Ihaven't posted as it seems both Sarah and I are linguists, and I didn't want to step on her toes since she was asked to establish communication.  Yet at the same time, if that is her function in the team, then what is mine?   Leaves me as the fifth wheel with not much to rp too on my end.

At the same time I can we taken out of the thread and it wouldn't disrupt things much.   My character was only referred  to three, four times at most.

I was assuming you were the one who could speak the language they are speaking?

Re: OOC : Relaxation room

My probably-fuzzy thinking was that the two linguists could/would have linguistic debates over the various languages, especially since there are so many languages to deal with.

As for Akkadian and Sumerian, nobody speaks either of them because they are dead languages. No one has spoken them in over 800 years. To make matters worse, they are language isolates. That is, they aren't related to any other language on the planet.

In theory, Akkadian and Sumerian were two distinct languages, but because they had so much trade and interaction between them, most folks at the time were bilingual. The two probably merged to become Babylonian. Sumerian became the language of religion, and as such was spoken by priests until around the 13th Century.

On Earth, some of the words probably migrated into Ancient Arabic. These are the ones that Sarah and Soren can recognize. The equivalent is Anglic into English. Anglic is technically a dead language, as it was absorbed by the English. Yet, the 16 most common Anglic words still exist in English, such as father, mother, water, etc.

As linguists, this is information that both Sarah and Soren would know.

Re: OOC : Relaxation room

Neither am I! It's all about technobabble... just throw out words that sound 'linguistical', like verbs, nouns, syntax, gender, tense, context, linguistic drift, etc.

Re: OOC : Relaxation room

As it happens RPOL has an excellent set of code designed to mimic languages.  There is a tiny bit of data entry required on the side of the GM but I find that it usually pays out in the end if the players have any interest what so ever in languages or other communication channels, as it can work for telepathy and or radio encryption too as it comes with both detectable auto scrambled text and non detectable text from the perspective of those not flagged for the language.

Father Soren:
My character was only referred  to three, four times at most.
This is why I wrote my message saying that I'm just waiting your go to imply you more in the team process. As you were quiet, I thought (And I was right) that you were away because of the holidays.

Now, if you think you can have a "normal" post rate, just tell me and I will refer to you as much as I refer to Sarah or Travis. :)

Feeling old now? ;)

I personally can't imagine being always the oldest and early January provides just that.

At least they should have no problem with remebering it's your birthday, right? So there is a bright side to even such unfortunate date.
