Re: OOC : Relaxation room

Yeah. If we wanted to do this kind of "lost control" event, it would either be for a short period of time or, as you seems to all prefer, we would give you instructions on "how to play" your character for a moment.

Be reassured, we have not plan such things at the moment. But if we had an idea like that, it's better to already know if that could be done with you. We want to give you fun, not frustration. :)

Re: OOC : Relaxation room

Hello!  I'm still working on my character-- I'm not familiar with the game (but am familiar with the d20 System.)  I haven't seen that many episodes of the show(s); unfortunately.  (I haven't had a functioning television in a LONG time, due to the fact I seem to be working my way DOWN the ladder of success.)

Blaine Devon Sanders is an Air Force Pararescue Jumper, fresh out of Afghanistan.

Re: OOC : Relaxation room

Thank you.

Yeah, I was pretty certain I'm not in any of those locations yet.  (Well, I suppose I COULD be lost and wander into somewhere, but that would be the game master's decision most likely.)

I'm going to be out of town later today and most of tomorrow for Thanksgiving Day, so posting before Friday afternoon is unlikely.

You will be able to wander in the SGC as soon as your character is completely done and validated by the GMs. Even if wandering is limited to the Base Mess and the infirmary at the moment. :p

Re: OOC : Relaxation room

I'm planning on working on the character in my spare time these next couple of days.  Right now what I've got is that he is USAF Pararescue, and a Scout.  If I am reading things right for Feats and Special Abilities he has Bandage, Stalker, and Trailblazer.  (Does he get any others, or are they defined by Specialty and Class?)  If I've calculated things correctly, he has 80 points to play with for Skills.  I suppose I could divide 80 by the number of skills he gets from the above choices... which would be about 3.62 for each skill.  I might do that then play around with the numbers until I get something approximately like what I want.

I'm thinking of having him from the Detroit, Michigan area by way of being assigned to the Middle East after going through Pararescue school.  (I might look up where they go for training, if I get obsessive enough.)  He joined the military due to limited finances and local job prospects.

Has anyone seen my copy of "The Perfect Storm" -- the book version?  That and Wikipedia is where most of my knowledge about Pararescue Jumpers (PJs) comes from....

Re: OOC : Relaxation room

Yes, Blaine gets those feats you mention, plus 8 various armor and weapons proficiency feats.

He also gets a bonus 1st level feat for being Human, and then a regular 1st level feat.

However, I think you've miscalculated his skill points. As I calculate it, its 6 (Scout) + 2 (Int)... x4 = 32, +4 bonus for being Human, so a total of 36 skill points.

Re: OOC : Relaxation room

In reply to StarMaster (msg # 32):

Argh!  It has been a while since I wrote up a character for d20 (the current D&D campaign started a few years back.)  I think I added the stat instead of multiply the bonus.  36 does make more sense, now that I think about it.

I've got about 25 minutes until my brother stops by to pick me up (my car having a blown out tire-- I somehow managed to blow it out while pulling up to a gas pump)-- so have a little bit of time to play with the numbers.  I probably won't finish in that amount of time, but I don't have anything better to do.

Have a good Thanksgiving to those from the US!  (And a good Thursday to everyone else.)

Re: OOC : Relaxation room

Hello SGC members.

New to the game but an old hat when it comes to Stargate.  Actually own the book and played it with a table top group.

Looking forward to seeing what out there.

Got most of the skills and stats locked down, just not sure what feat to take but I am leaning to gun shooting.

Re: OOC : Relaxation room

Hello! It's a Friday here.

I assume we'll get a few extra faces our SG-X team before we leave?

I'm not sure exactly how Stargate SG-1 aligned itself to real time (wiki apparently goes by airdate), but our concurrence with S2 E19 "One False Step" suggests we're in early 1999:
http://stargate.wikia.com/wiki/1999
Afghanistan might be difficult, unless we assume Stargate is a few years ahead.

Re: OOC : Relaxation room

I tend to go with a 'floating' timeline. It's a bit like comic books. It takes a year of publications to tell a story that only took one day. On the flip side, what else was the hero doing in that year?

So, since we're doing this in 2013 (almost 2014!), I'm just kind of sliding the whole Stargate timeline forward, and being indeterminate when necessary.

So there's 'Before Now' and 'sometime in the future'...

((If anyone's unhappy with that, I'll just have SG-1 travel into the past and reset the calendar 18 years ahead...))

Re: OOC : Relaxation room

We've got a lot of new players, most of whom are still working on their characters. As soon as a character is (mostly) done, I'll start a post for you.

I'm reluctant to do it before then only so that another player doesn't get left hanging while someone else is finishing their character.

At this time, only Eddie Dean and Sarah Morgan are 100% finished. I'm going to start them out in the Rec Room.

In reply to StarMaster (msg # 43):

I just sent a message about Feats, Ablities, and Skills.  Any suggestions on Rank?  I'm not sure how that affects the game, so I am not sure what rank the character should be.  How much more after that do I need to do?

I'm short on sleep and burned out after Thanksgiving, so I might not be back on line today.

Thanks.

Re: OOC : Relaxation room

Having been rewatching the various Stargate series of late one thing strikes me as universally true.  EVERYONE should be using a Zat gun, and that should be the only weapon anyone carries.

Given the number of times someone loses control of themselves or otherwise accidentally shoots an ally or someone trying to become an ally that would be reason enough.  Added to that the ability to 'shoot first and ask questions later' of relatively inocent or otherwise unknown folks who start hostile or inconveniently afraid it should be a no brainier.

As for access to the Zats and ammunition issues they seem to hold quite a few shots per charge and enough of them are captured off, or could be if looted properly, the Jaffa in the first season of SG-1 alone to supply weapons to every member of every team in every series and likely spares it feels silly when they are 14+ years into the acquisition of alien tech for military purposes and still using 9mm sidearms.

Now that the rant against TV shows that don't make sense is over I thought I would toss a disclaimer in here that I do not necessarily think we should plan to start the game out with everyone's weapon choice being restricted like this, but we may want to consider making multiple Zat guns a fairly common choice once the system mechanics allow for folks to start selecting them.
