Re: OOC : Relaxation room

SGU even managed to make General O'Neill a sour old shite. His humour and sarcasm have been a part of him since series one of SG-1.

Re: OOC : Relaxation room

Universe squandered the chance to make a spooky, Event Horizon type episode when certain characters were hallucinating. They could have made it something that the ship picked up whilst in the void between galaxies but no, they went with an alien, hallucinogenic tick.

What a wasted chance!!

Re: OOC : Relaxation room

SGUs version of Jack was more like the Kurt Russell version than the one we all loved from SG1, and the show had all the tools to make it great, but squandered them trying to do something new instead of sticking to what worked for the other two series

Instead we got a darker version of Star Trek: Wagon Train home... I mean Voyager.

Thanks for the BD wishes. I've hit my limit of birthdays, though, so I'm not going to have any more.

Not turning my back, but if things get fubar, Marines will stick together. Nice job pulling  off the mutiny without much resistance, but now have to prove we should follow you.

And Kaspar, fitting avatar choice, easy to picture Dafoe playing your part

Re: OOC : Relaxation room

I decided to binge Universe, being something of a completest, and once I got past the fact that tonally it was unlike any other in the Stargate...universe? it was actually a pretty damn good show. Series two showed the potential it really had if it had continued and I'm rather sad it was cancelled. I really hope more is done with the IP (Stargate in general) in the future.

Re: OOC : Relaxation room

So when I was in the army all my sgts pointed with the “knife hand” Naseem is describing. I never really asked why they did it that way, but it made me think of the “when you point a finger at someone there are three pointed back at you” thing kids would say in elementary school and I’d always have to stifle a laugh. (Which naturally would get me in more trouble.)

Re: OOC : Relaxation room

The message communicated is definitely different with a knife hand than a finger or a nuckle point. For one it invites less aggression/confrontation.
I know that both Army and USMC have been training their drill sergeants/instructors to use knife hand for at least 25 years, probably longer (that's the era from which I have friends who were in those branches).
Still, it might look aggressive to someone from Poland. I have no idea.

In reply to Coleman Hendricks (msg # 983):

OH...MY...GAWD

Once again, I so completely blew the interpretation of that scene :p

When I read "knife hand" I interpreted it like the phrase "gun hand", i.e. "the hand you hold a gun with", not as "holding the edge of the hand straight and rigid, like a knife edge".

When you guys started talking DI gestures I immediately knew what you were talking about!  Damn, I messed that up.

But...fond memories of Ft. Benning, GA..."I said MOVE, Puke!"

Good times.  Good times. ^_^

I thought she meant to say she had a knife in her hand.

Well, there's a relief.

Re: OOC : Relaxation room

In reply to Hilda (msg # 985):

I know, right?

I honestly thought she was writing that she was holding her hand just a few inches off the hilt of her combat knife--poised to draw.  Just like a gunfighter holding his hand just over the grip of his pistol--poised to draw and fire.

But I'm sure that Tate & Coleman have the right of it.

Re: OOC : Relaxation room

So let me get this straight... there is a angel-being in the room and you guys continue posting having a chat about being a good soldier and ignoring the being?  Does that exclude you from events there?

Re: OOC : Relaxation room

For my part Naseem is watching the being and listening to your discussion with it. She can't speak with it herself but at the time she thought Kaspar's actions were tantamount to desertion so went to tell him that. His telling her he thought it was the conflict between them that summoned the creature led her to calming down and trying to be calm and peaceful so as to not inflame the situation any further.

I'm still very much part of the events occurring in the room but seeing that nothing escalates seems a very good idea at this moment.

Re: OOC : Relaxation room

In reply to Naseem Ansari--Hecate (msg # 988):

Exactly.

As I understand the physical situation, the chamber is oblong-shaped, and the door out to the bridge is at one of the narrow ends.  The "angel" appeared at, and is hovering abouve, the center of the chamber.  Kaspar & Naseem are leaning against the wall right next to the door--as far away from the center of the chamber as one can get--and trying to remain calm and think peaceful thoughts.

And, as Naseem pointed out, Sarah is the only person who (apparently) can speak with the thing, and Sarah stepped forward to do so.  The rest of us are being respectfully attentive and giving Sarah space to operate in, but otherwise just waiting to see how that conversation goes.

Re: OOC : Relaxation room

Hilda said her suggestion and is waiting for a response from the winged being. I imagine Sarah is having a rather slow-going conversation in some form of Mayan she's working out on the spot while we wait and Kaspar and Naseem and are talking in the background.

Given that Lucky is a Marine, all Tate has to do to correct that situation is to point out that a Marine is taking cover behind a Soldier... no Devil Dog would EVER hide behind someone from another branch (at least not if that person knew about it and could give them crap about it later...)
