Re: P5J-249: Oz

"Right.  So, the plan is that the Old Farts..." Kaspar looks at Vasandra and Gavin, and gathers them in with a gesture, "...that would be me, mostly -- we three will head over to the gate now.  When we get there, I'll wave, and you two youngsters then dial Earth.  When the gate opens, you haul ass to join us.  As you're running over, I'll inform Command that we're coming home, and activate our Garage Door Opener."

Kaspar casts a serious frown towards Hilda and Rajip.

"Even if the gate opens, it may not stay open for the full thirty-eight minute cycle, so I don't want you two to waste any time getting over there.  Once the wormhole stabilizes, you take off, got it?  Good.  First beer is on me, when we get back."

Kaspar turns to join Vasandra and Gavin heading around the crevasse, towards the gate.

"As long as it's a Polish beer!" he tosses over his shoulder.

Re: P5J-249: Oz

Lyla put four nails through the two planks, making a sturdy join. To test the strength, she laid it up against the cart and gave it a solid kick, and was satisfied that it would hold long enough for her and Rajip to run across. She laid it across the rift beside her first, the parked a barn door over the two planks. She walked across, rather carefully. 'There, your bridge. We can go this way to be quicker. If anything happens, we can go around.'

'And I will claim that beer!'

Rajip whistled with awe when the Cimmerian's construction passed the brutal test.

"Fine. Keep the beer, Hilda but when I decide to build a house one day, I'll be calling on you. Just so that you know."

'A house is a built by the village.' Hilda accepted the request. 'I can get you dung from the stables, but you will have to provide the wood and mud. And the beer.'

'I'll take his beer too.'
she added to Kaspar's offer.

Re: P5J-249: Oz

Once Kaspar got to the Stargate -- only winded a little bit -- he paused a moment to mumble something in Polish about needing to get back in shape, and then he turned to check on Vasandra and Gavin.  As soon as they were ready to go through the gate, Kaspar would turn and wave at Hilda and Rajip, signaling them to go ahead and activate the Stargate.

Then he'd take an extra step back from the gate...just in case.

Re: P5J-249: Oz

Hilda picked up one of the leftover ropes, the rest having been packed away on the FRED, then walked across the makeshift bridge, drawing the rope over. 'Rajip, you press the runes, then wait to see what happens. If all is well, take the rope and come over the bridge.' She didn't say that she would hold the other end and haul him up if the bridge collapsed. That would only alarm him.

Re: P5J-249: Oz

Rajip waved back at the major, then secured one end of the rope as the Cimmerian took the other one and watched Hilda crossing the bridge, assessing the sturdiness of her construction as the woman's steps drove it into a slight vibration. He'd rather not think that was due to otherwise inperceivable shaking of the ground or, worse yet, some earlier unnoticed fault of the construction.

Anyway, she was across the fissure now as were the others and all he could do was to dial the correct address and send them all back home. He turned towards the device and punched the six symbols describing the Earth, then the last one to specify the starting position, just as he was made to memorize before his departure.

Nothing. "It doesn't work!" he called out.

OOC: Just a trick to ask you for an explanation, guys. The center orb is still broken right? What do I do we the insides? There's a crystal to be pressed or touched inside, isn't it?

Re: P5J-249: Oz

"Co w imię Matki Maryi?"* Kaspar shouts in Polish and tossing his arms up, then turning to Gavin and Vassandra, standing nearby.

He takes a deep breath, before speaking calmly, "Generally, young American males..." Kaspar nods towards Rajip, over by the DHD, "...are rather adept at manipulating electronic devices; their intuitiveness is almost scary.  So.  Did we, perhaps, skip a step, when telling him how to open the gate with the broken DHD?  Hmm?"

Kaspar was trying hard to keep his sarcasm knob turned below 9.

Hilda waited impatiently at the hold-up, then shouted to Rajip 'Try turning it off and back on again!' She'd learned that usually worked on Midgard.

"Sorry about that, Rajip," Gavin calls back over. "We didn't really have any way of replacing the red dome. I suppose we could have superglued it back together, but since it wasn't really necessary, I opted not to bother."

"Just reach in and push the purple crystal down. That's the activating trigger."

"Oh, right..." murmured Rajip in a reply that for sure wasn't audible from the other side of the fissure let alone from the gate. As he looked down again, his confusion grew. The broken remains of the dome were threatening him with their many sharp edges that could easily tear his arm should he need to withdraw it in haste. Yet there was no time to hesitate anymore. He reached in, placed the very tips of his fingers on the glistening crystal and pressed slightly.

Re: P5J-249: Oz

Once Rajip finally touched the crystal described by Gavin, the gate opened with the usual Kawoosh.

The opening made the ground shake a bit more than usual, probably because of the close rift but Hilda's bridge was still in place and not damaged.

The device created by Gavin and Vasandra seemed to work perfectly so far and the vortex was stable. Every conditions were together to let the team go back home.

Having the FRED on hand and no reason not to use it as a dummy MALP Vasandra wheels the substantially larger vehicle around in front of the gate and rolls it through, content to wait the required seconds for confirmation of it's safe arrival before risking any of the more valuable living members of the team.

Hilda looked back in awe as the Ring of Stars erupted and was finally open. There were no more ground shakes, so everything seemed safe. It was a relief after all their hard work. 'Okay now, Rajip, come across the bridge.' she beckoned her comrade, holding the safety rope, if he wanted to try the direct route.

OOC: Don't forget to use the GDO to send the code to open the iris. Else that FRED has gone splat. :)

Re: P5J-249: Oz

OOC: sorry, new computer issues delayed my response.  All better, now ^_^

Once the wormhole had stabilized, Kaspar took out the small transponder that everyone called the "Garage Door Opener", or GDO, and entered in the unique code that would both identify SGX1 as the in-coming Team, as well as inform Command that the Team was alone and not under enemy -- or some other alien -- influence.  Then Command would open the gate iris.

At least, thats how it is supposed to happen...

After sending the GDO code, Kaspar paused as Vasandra moved the FRED into position to go through the gate, and Rajip and Hilda ran over to join the rest of the Team.  After a few moments, Kaspar nodded at Vasandra to send the FRED through, and then he started toward the gate, himself.

After Kaspar used his GDO to send his authentication code, the voice of General Hammond could be eared in the radio. "I'm happy to know that you have been successful SG-X1. The iris is open, you can cross the gate."

This is only after hearing the heartwarming voice of the general that he gave the go to Vasandra so she could send the FRED throughout the gate.

Re: P5J-249: Oz

Rajip hastily pulled the hand away from the broken dome and stepped away from the DHD itself in case it malfunctioned with too much of energy. The gate worked so they were home, at last. Or maybe rather almost home with him having the farthest still to go. A glanced around quickly and made the decision to eventually use the makeshift bridge. The recent tremble, albeit slight, did not bode well and he yet had the fissure to cross.

With visible ease, he tied the safety rope round his waist. "Keep it strung!" he called out to the Cimmerian on the other side and, while still keeping it in one hand, he darted along the wooden construction.

OOC: Should anything happen, just let me know which rolls to make.

Hilda held tight on the rope, and planted her boots solidly into the earth, ready to pulled Rajip up if the bridge should fail or another tremor strike the rift. But nothing happened, and she saw Rajip make it across safely. 'Come on!' she cheered, clapping him hard on the back.

Hilda ran up to the open Stargate where the others waited, ready and glad to leave.

Everyone was now safe on the good side of the rift. But the event of horizon started to flicker suddenly.
The power left in it would not be enough to hold the gate open for a long time.

"SG-X1, what's happening ? The vortex seems unstable. asked Hammond throughout the radio.

Hilda watched the flickering puddle with alarm. 'Everybody run! Go! Go!' she yelled urgently. But she wasn't the first to go, lingering to be sure the others got through safely first. She was a Cimmerian warrior, and no coward to flee the field first and leave her companions behind!

"Come on, already," he yelled in her face. "We've no time to waste!"

Then, he ran on.

Gavin decided to be the last through the gate in case there turned out to be some last minute problem with the DHD, although he wasn't versed enough in gate technology to know speculate on what kind of problem COULD occur. It was just a precaution.

Watch out for that first step...

As soon as Hilda ran past, Gavin stepped through, too...
