Re: X2U-238: Shot in the Dark 2
Hilda opens the next door... three doors down, actually, since the first two opened into the same room as the first one.
At first, Hilda has no idea what the function of this room is. It is a long room, too, though not as long as the other one, but long enough to have two doors. There are four beds, one along each of the side walls and two across the back, and there is a desk against the front wall between the two doors. Above the desk are cabinets and shelves. Between the two back beds is another floor-to-ceiling cabinet. The beds appear slightly elevated, perhaps meant for tall people.
She caught a flash of the lights coming on as she opened the door, indicating that it had apparently been dark... since it wasn't occupied.
Then she realizes why there's a vague familiarity to the room--it has a simplified look of the SGC medical bay.
Meanwhile, Sarah has managed to find the base operating system for the control room. She's not into the hard code for it, assuming there is such a thing, but into a root directory/menu.
One of the entries is Language Setting, so apparently the Alterants were expecting someone else to be able to take control of the facility at some point. One of them seems to be Mayan; it doesn't actually say that, but that's the symbology displayed. As it is, no one is quite sure what the Mayans actually called their language. There wasn't as much cultural interaction in the Americas for the distinction between languages had to be made like it did in Europe. As near as anyone has been able to determine, the Mayans spoke 'Language' and everyone else spoke 'garbage'. She can also switch to Asgard or (she thinks) Furling.
Sarah is able to switch the displays over to Mayan, and almost laughs when she realizes that there isn't much change. After all, the Mayans wouldn't have had any symbols for a lot of the technical data. Temperature, for instance, would have just been 'warm, hot, very hot'.
However, Sarah is also able to activate voice protocols if she wishes, which means she can talk to the computer.
